Simon Cowell

  • Simon thinks it will come down to song choice, and for that reason, David Cook will win.
  • He explains that he wouldn’t have said that 9 or 10 weeks ago, but that over the weeks, Cookie had two or 3 performances that were “staggeringly” good, while Archie sorta flat lined.
  • Simon doesn’t think Archie has the personality to be the American Idol. He thinks he would struggle a bit on the interview. Simon thinks he’s been “trained to do this over a period of time” and that he really hasn’t experienced life.
  • Simon has seen worse stage parents on Idol. He said he had “mothers practically attacking him after the show.” He says Jeff needs to relax a bit.

    MJ,

I find it absolutely DISGUSTING how you have continued to go on and on in this smear campaign to make sure David Archuleta not win. What is the matter with you? You consistently put up only negative news about David Archuleta and your comments about David A. are completely bias.

I never see you post positive remarks that Archey receives in the media. Only this bs crap from Ellen and Leno.

    You sicken me.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

    Thanks for stopping by, brownstarz!

  • tinawina

LMAO. Uh, and that’s all I have to say. Mj cracks me up.

So, how about them Mets? :innocent2_tb:

Fantasia is never gonna talk to Simon again. That his the second slam on her. But both times it was funny!

  • mtm

    lol!

  • erennick

Wow! MJ, I for one, am continuously amazed at how fair and balanced you remain. I was not even sure that you were a Cooktard until this week when you posted your pick for the win.

Your site has been my homepage since Season 5, so thanks!

  • Jolene

I actually like Simon alot more after watching this interview. He is truly the only judge whose opinion I care about, so it’s gratifying to see how close his take on things is to my own.
Wish both Davids the best of luck tonight, and that they both bring out their A game.

Oh, can I just say it one last time?
    DCFTMFW!!!

  • jdsgirl

Well can’t expect everyone to like their favorites. Rickey from rickey.org loves some Archie! I love your site and hope Cookie wins! He really deserves. It should be a great show tonight.

  • GwendolynD

    Uh…okay. I’m speechless….!

    —————-

I love talk show hosts who can make Simon squirm! You tell ‘im, Ellen!

  • http://www.myspace.com/rjveritas MrRJ

Hey MJ…..I am so proud of your perfect response to brownstarz. I am also proud you spelled all your words correctly, if you get my drift…….

  • Layla

    Brownstarz,

Hold on there! This is MJ’s site! Nevermind…MJ is well able to speak for herself.

Loved this interview. Agree with what Simon had to say about DC and DA really not being ready.

Simon can be an ass sometimes but I couldn’t imagine AI without him.

  • Grammie Kari

As a Jason fan, I can appreciate everyone’s opinion. MJ, I do think you have be fair and very thorough with reporting the news throughout the entire season (and previous years).

The maon thing I want to see tonight is two contestants who give their heart and soul in performing their songs! It should be a good night.

I am unable to view the YouTube clip and wondered what Simon said about Fantasia on Ellen’s show?

  • brownstarz

    Grammie Kari,

    agreed.

  • cheese

*prays for MJ to open a mailbag*

If David Archuleta wins American Idol and appears on Leno and/or Ellen, please do not post video of his interviews with these agents of evil. They will ask him questions and expect him to answer.

Ellen loves her some David Cook. Simon was far from gushing about him. I think he was just saying a little life experience goes a long way towards making a singer/performer.

Thank you for the video – I forgot to watch.

  • taran33

I loved how Ellen told Simon to “get there early then”. lol

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

I’m getting so sick of listening to Simon talking about how he likes contestants that have had life experience and have worked for this and then get their break. (He knows that’s what caused some of the backlash this year with Carly and others.) I wish just one of these interviewers would call him on it and say oh…….like Taylor? Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

  • Dlynne

That was amusing. Even though Simon looked like he was uncomfortable, I appreciate that he doesn’t try to spin his opinion to be PC. He says what he thinks and he really doesn’t care whether people like it or not. You might not agree with him but I find it refreshing when so many people in the public eye today are truly deceptive.

MJ, this is my first season reading your blog and I have to say that I have found it fair and unbiased, which is why I like it here. I also didn’t even know who your favorite was until last week. Thank you for this place where intelligent, thought-provoking conversation rules.

  • Chicago-sally

What? They forgot to give Syesha a talk show spot? Where is her talk show spot? I would protest!!! if I were her.

As always, Simon is 99% right. But — why did he praise David A to high hell….so now he turns on the kid? Doesn’t think he’s mature enough? But he was a fave….what a turncoat!

  • Chicago-sally

Aren’t those the same jeans he wore on Leno….that mean knows how to economize and I bet they cost $1000!

  • tinawina

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m getting so sick of listening to Simon talking about how he likes contestants that have had life experience and have worked for this and then get their break. (He knows thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what caused some of the backlash this year with Carly and others.) I wish just one of these interviewers would call him on it and say ohà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.like Taylor? Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Yeah, that was some BS. He likes Cook, which is fine IMO, but in past seasons he has not necessarily favored the contestant who paid more dues.

Grammie Karl – he said Fantasia was (and I’m paraphrasing) just a bunch of noise; that she came out of nowhere, screamed and left abruptly; that she’s talented but she’s marketing herself all wrong and that’s why she’s not selling; she should be singing stuff like summertime, and that he didn’t really care if she never spoke to him again. But it was funnier when he said it.

  • psnax

Yet again I have to say that I completely agree with Simon on who should win and why. I just hope all the super-pimping of DC doesn’t totally backfire – whoever wins I’d like it to be fair, based on a combination of the expected fanbase and casual votes, and not based on power-voting by one bloc as a response to super-pimping of the other bloc.

I also agree that MJ has been very fair and balanced – it’s not her fault if Simon comes out in blatant support of David Cook the day before the finale. He’s entitled to his favorite, as we are all entitled to ours. Simon doesn’t choose the winner (at least in theory) and MJ is just reporting for all the fans of AI, whoever their favorite is.

  • ettacandy

I admit I’m getting a bit fangirly about MJ. :-) Well done, MJ, on your blog and in this thread.

Regarding Fantasia, if you haven’t read it yet, do read Dave White’s recap of last week’s show. I couldn’t breathe, for laughing so hard.

  • tinawina

As always, Simon is 99% right. But à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ why did he praise David A to high hellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.so now he turns on the kid? Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s mature enough? But he was a faveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.what a turncoat!

Nah, he said earlier in the season Archie was on a roll, but then he got stuck in a rut. So Archie was his favorite but then Cook won him over. I guess they were looking for Arch to get a little more comfortable speaking in public but it never happened? Who knows. But I don’t think he’s really being contradictory there.

  • brownstarz

Simon saying Cook deserves to win because he worked in a Bar (on the Leno interview) is the most assinine reasoning EVER.

  • smartcookie

The third-place person never gets the interviews because they have to go right into rehearsal for the finale. It’s annoying, mostly because my favorites have a tendency to go out third, but that’s the way it’s been as far as I can remember. I had to wait like a year to see Elliott on Ellen DeGeneres.

Simon and Randy have also been saying who they want to win (or who they think will win) as long as I can remember. It’s kind of their job as judges and also as promotion for the show. It’s actually Nigel that bugs me when he goes around saying who should win. As the producer, that just seems a little… Icky?

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I would have still posted what Simon said no matter who he backed.

I was a Taylor fan Season 5, and I continued to post Simon’s BS. Every last bit of it! ;) .

  • Duke

I’m kinda on the same page as brownstarz but not as mad…

I think the #1 change they need to make for next year is with the judges critiques:
*During the shows: No judge should be allowed to say, “You won the night” or “You blow everyone else out of the water” or “You should make it to next week”…
    * When Judges make appearances on TV: No judge should be allowed to say ANYTHING that would show who they would want to win the show…remember the AI slogan: IT’S UP TO YOU AMERICA TO DECIDE WHO MOVES ON!

I do get disappointed when I see people who hold some power (yes i am speaking of you MJ) be bias in their posts, but what can i do? vote harder? thats about it…

anyways, i do Love coming here for info because its very up-to-date and easy to find…so that much i appreciate.

  • brownstarz

    Duke,

Oh please. MJs blog is just about the most unbiased there is. As a Cooktard, I never knew her favorite was Cook untill just this week with the MTV roundtable.
And I have to say – biased blogs? Rickey’s is the epitome of one. It’s Arch-central, and I NEVER go and suggest he should be less biased, because it’s his blog and he’s free to do with it as he wishes.
Somehow, I don’t see the Archie fans over there complaining how unfair it is to Cook fans that we only have about 1/5 the threads and pimpage.

  • tinawina

Huh????? Why isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t MJ allowed an opinion on her own blog?

I dunno. I like both contestants, so either one winning would be fine with me. That said, who cares what any blogger says? They all have different opinions anyway. No offense MJ! LOL! But maybe that’s just me.

  • baxter

brownstarz….take just a moment and check out MJ’s archives. Look up ELLEN. Mj has posted every Ellen interview with the judges, bootees, and even this year, contestants that didn’t even make the top 24. She is fair to all whether you agree with the contents of the interviews.

Hell mj is more fair and balanced than Foxnews.

Keep doing what you do MJ….You RAWK!!

  • dante

This is mj’s blog and she can do anything she wants here – we are in her home – anyone who doesn’t like it can leave.

IMO, the best thing that could be done to make the show better is limit the amount of votes per person (like Dancing With The Stars) but I doubt that will ever happen.

One of the many reasons I like it here at mj’s is that she is fair and posts news about all the idols. I enjoy following most all of their career’s even though I have my favs.

  • poporange

A lighter note to bring a smile to some…

Does anybody notice Simon haircut looks like a buzz cut? Simon is in the “business” part of the record wants to sell units. If kittens going ” meow “were popular AI would be kitten AI. Morris the cat would beyour new AI .

  • ziggy

You ROCK, MJ, you just ROCK!!!!

  • wfowfowfo

I hate to admit that I’ve enjoyed Simon’s last two interviews; both Leno and Ellen. He’s pretty funny. I think it’s refreshing to see his laid-back attitude — and it brought it all into perspective for me — it *is* just a tv show. Both Davids will do just fine after it’s all over — win or loose. Personally I just happen to think that Cook will do a wee bit finer . (Well, maybe a shitload finer, but that’s just my opinion.)

And, well, I’m very confused as to why the heck MJ isn’t allowed to have an opinion on her own blog. Silly that.

    DC for the casual win.

    Exactly! LOL!

I don’t tell people who to vote for, I try to cover everything and everyone, but I am also a fan, and I have my favorites. I don’t make a secret of that. I consider my blog a news AND opinion blog. I have an opinion, I want to hear yours. It doesn’t have to be the same as mine. It would be boring otherwise.

Another reminder: I just deleted another Luke Menard post. I’m trying to keep these threads on topic. All news goes in the Headlines thread, where there has been an ongoing discussion of the rumors about Luke’s condition.

“What? They forgot to give Syesha a talk show spot? Where is her talk show spot? I would protest!!! if I were her.”

Hey Chicago-Sally, Syesha will get her chance. She cannot go on the talk show circuit this week because she is rehearsing and will be part of the finale. The winner, runner up and Syesha will all be featured on the talk show circuit this and next week. So no reason to protest on her part.

Thanks MJ. I am an idol-junkie through and through and have this site bookmarked to check several times a day. I am just not a big poster. I do have some definite opinions about this year and will find the right thread to put them in. :)

One of MJ’s most basic principles here is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. So, she should be deprived of hers? How absurd! This isn’t anything more than a TV show, folks! She is not only entitled to an opinion; she is more than entitled to let people know what her opinion is!

ChicagoSally: I can’t remember the date, but I know Syesha is going to be on Regis & Kelly Live and at least a couple of the other shows. I just think she’s going to be on after the two Davids.

I wasn’t aware that MJ’s favorite was Cook until recently either. And, you know what? That’s ok. She has been fair and unbiased, and, yes, we are allowed to snark on all the contestants here.

I suggest if you want a lovefest with Archie, then run, don’t walk to Rickey’s site. MJ has given him the same amount of coverage as the rest. So, what if she favors Cookie? I’m a Jason fan, and, I want Cook to win as well. Does that mean I don’t like little David? No, its just that he’s way too immature for a win of this magnitude, and, Simon said it best. He’s going to be an interviewing nightmare.

Some of Archie’s fans are over the top!

Well, Diana is now a 20 year old lady, moved to Nashville on her own, and, has finally broken the apron strings. I suspect Archie will do the same in the future, but, as for now, that isn’t going to happen.

  • ben_meova

and after seeing this can anyone believe that Archuleta will be judged fairly? He just declared for the second time who he wants to win…so how can this man’s opinion of each singer be considered unbiased and objective? I think it is a sin that judges are allowed to go pimp the person they most want signed to the record contract before the show happens.

I mean God Bless David Cook if he wins this…he has worked as hard as anyone but this is just wrong. If Cowel was just a pundit that would be one thing but tonight he is going to sit there and allegedly fairly critique each singer. How can that be done when he tipped his hat on two shows?

He says it is goinmg to come down to song choice- wanna know why?

Because just like last week he and Nigel Lythgoe made sure David Cook had premium songs while Archuleta got crap. Last week Paula picked the most mundane Billy Joel song out of his whole catalogue. Lythgoe picked another horrible song. David had been rehearsing an uptempo version of Longer he had reworked (he and his arranger not his father) and Lythgoe told him he couldnt sing that one at the last minute…he was told he had to sing the boring version.

The Aerosmith song was originally Archuleta’s but Lythgoe changed it up and gave it to Cook.

This week Archuleta will get crapola songs while Cook debuts a U@ song never available on the show.

    from USA TODAY:
    http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2008-05-19-idol-davids_N.htm

Archuleta couldn’t get at least one song cleared for tonight. “Hopefully, the song I ended up with will work. I’ll do the best with it,” he says. “I have done my best to show my vocal ability. I wanted to show people why I love music, and I think I’ve managed to do that.”

and that kind of trickey business is why they decided…all of a sudden last week to release anonymous trash stories, which have sionce been proven untrue in mainstream press and on my blogs…so Jeff couldn’t question Lythgoe while they were giving his son crap so Cook would shine.

Even Michael Slezak from EW chimes in on this theme

Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Slezak, who writes Idol recaps for ew.com, sees a darker side to the ratings slide. It stems partly from an “arrogance I’ve never seen before. The show consistently damaged its own credibility.”

He accuses Idol of a transparent mission to send Davids A. and C. to the finish line. Last Tuesday, Cowell declared Archuleta a finalist and Cook the winner of the night.

“If allowed to play out organically, it might have ended this way, but it’s disheartening that the producers got what they wanted,” Slezak says. “It’s a story arc and agenda they pushed hard for.”

Requiring Syesha Mercado, eliminated last week, to sing Hit Me Up from Happy Feet “was a vicious case of sabotage,” he says. “They didn’t need to make it that obvious. The viewers are smarter than the show gives them credit for.”

Lythgoe rejects the notion that Idol favored a double-David. Syesha “made a poor choice herself with Fever. Until that point, (the judges) had been very strong in Syesha’s favor. Fever tipped the balance.”

And, he adds, Cowell ridiculed Fogelberg’s Longer, the producers’ song choice for Archuleta, as suitable for a 90-year-old.

Who stays and who goes “has nothing to do with the judges at that point,” he says. “It’s about who people are going to vote for.”

BUT THE TROUBLE IS THE DO LISTEN TO SIMON AND THE SHOW HAS DONE ITS BEST TO MINIMIZE EVERYONE BUT COOK.

THIS IS SO WRONG AND NOT FAIR AT ALL…

And like I said if david Cook wins God bless him…as far as I am concerned both of them had nothing to do with the manipulation and the soft selling of who Lythgoe and Cowell want to win so they can make loads of cash off of him.

To go on talk shows before either guy sang amazes me…and to say all he did…he might as just as well walk up and tell David Archuleta to go home now tonight and if I was Archie and I knew about this I would.

And lastly…that person that accused MJ of being biased hasn’t viewed this season like I have. The daily news briefs have always been fair and balanced in my opinion. But the show has made sure there is little or no negative press for Cook while planting the TMZ and Enquirer crap stories about Jeff Archuleta…so I personally don’t blame MJ for what the mainstream press was writing…that is not fair.

  • mocha

Well said! I love this site, everyone can freely say what they want about the show. Sure, many of us have our faves, but everyone respects each other’s opinions. If we all agreed, it wouldn’t be very interesting. MJ does a GREAT job policing this blog and the comments sections to make sure the rules are followed. If you don’t like it, you can try another site, it’s your choice. I think MJ is entitled to her own opinion; also she is very fair and even-handed in doling out praise when it is due ( in her opinion!) to all of the Idols, past and present.

So I wouldn’t cry for the 3rd place finalists, they’re doing OK.

  • skylight1219

Oh, please, the judges do this every season. I don’t approve of it, but, that isn’t going to change things. And, just what’s so wrong with David A. coming in 1st place? Yes, it is first place, right behind the winner. It sure didn’t hurt Clay Aiken.

And, the wheels on the bus go round and round. They’re heading straight for Archie. But, he’s going to be fine even if he doesn’t take the title. With Cook winning, they have co-winners this season, just like in season 2. Archie will have Cook along to help him with the interviews, just as Clay did with Ruben. Ruben wasn’t an eloquent speaker, and, a man of very few words. Clay carried the ball, just as Cook is going to have to do with Archie

Sally, that third place thing was interesting. Some of the very best have ended up in third.

Just heard that our local theater will be a site on the “Idols in Concert for the Holidays” tour. This is supposed to feature four of the top 10 finalists from each season. Hopefully, it will showcase some of the Idols we haven’t heard much from. I’d love to see someone like Vonzell on this tour.

SORRY BUT IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THIS…GO READ THE BLOGS ON MY SITE FROM THE LAST WEK AND A HALF…LOOK AT ALL WE UNCOVERED…AND I FIND IT QUITE RUDE THAT PEOPLE FEEL THEY HAVE TO MAKE FUN OF OR MINIMIZE ARCHIE. I DIDN’T MAKE FUN OF COOK AT ALL. DAVID ARCHULETA HAS DONE PLENTY OF INTERVIEWS AND HAS DONE FINE (SEE THE RADIO AND TV HOMECOMING INTERVIEWS) SO SIMON IS BLOWING SMOKE OUT HIS a** WITH THAT REMARK.

I WASN’T TALKING ABOUT WIN OR WHO LOSES…I AM TALKING ABOUT THE BIAS…THE MANIPULATION OF ONE CONTESTANT TO MAKE ANOTHER SHINE AND I AM CERTAIN IF THE STORY WAS REVERSED…IF THE PRESS HAD BEEN TALKING TRASH ABOUT COOKS FAMILY MEMBER, IF LYTHGOE HAD SABOTAGED DAVID COOK TO MAKE ARCHULETA LOOK GOOD YOU ALL WOULD BE SCREAM,ING BLOODY MURDER NOW.

EITHER CONTESTANT DESERVES TO WIN…THEY BOTH HAVE WORKED HARD.

I AM TALKING ABOUT THE CREDIBILITY THIS YEAR AND THE BIAS HAS SURPASSED ANY OTHER YEAR I CAN THINK OF.

  • jpfan

Yes, the big bus is coming for Archie. But runners up get signed so that’s cool. I don’t think Archie will be forgotten in a year at all. If he gets some good songs, he’ll get noticed. Aside from his love of McPhee, Foster is very good at identifying who got the MOR chops – he’s the producer for Josh Groban and Bubble.

I think Archie will be one of the few #2s who doesn’t flop. I’m buying into the Cook has got this in the bag based on song choices and Simon’s comments. Too bad, because I think Archie is the bettter singer.

  • ben_meova

and one more thing…I have cited you a lot on my page MJ…thanks for all the hard work you did this season on this page…yours is one of the few I trust and suggest to people…so thanks again

  • reinharv

I don’t care what the judges say when they do their critique. It’s their opinion and I am certainly not swayed by what they say. I’ll vote for the person who sang & performed the best on that night and I also take in consideration what their overall performance has been up to that date also. Simon thought Carly did really well (as did the rest of the judges) and she got voted off the next day.

That is their job–it’s to critique the performances good or bad.

It’s nice to blog on a site where a lot of people have different opinions and there isn’t blatant favoring; however eventually, you pick your favorite.

P.S. I saw the interview David Foster had and I’d like to know what he’s sniffing???

Thanks for posting these interviews, MJ. :-) I wonder who the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“worstà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ stage parent was.

Ah, well, that was before my Idol viewing started in full force. I think I may have seen a couple of shows that year.

I started coming to this blog to see info on Jason and I never felt like he was dissed by Mj or not covered on here, even though her favorite is Cook?? I STILL meet up with Jason lovers on here – on my bookmarked Jason (mj) page.

    skylight1219:

I suggest if you want a lovefest with Archie, then run, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t walk to Rickeyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s site.

LOL – you are so right, but they probably came here to see if the lovefest is here too and if not, try to convince people of the error or their ways. :guns_tb:

Building up one’s favorite, and, tearing down another doesn’t result in anyone having a change of heart or mind. And, don’t try to convince me why one should win over the other. I didn’t say Archie doesn’t have a good voice, because he does. I just don’t think he’s mature enough to win this competition, plus, he hasn’t even gone through puberty yet. But, can we convince his fan base of this? No, so, why even try? Yet, they seem hell bent on us changing our viewpoint.

If Archie’s fans think this is bad, just wait until the media gets hold of him post Idol. It will be brutal. They’ll probably spend most of their waking moments, trying to set the pundits straight on why he is a superstar, and, all wrong in their assesments.

    Welcome to show business!

McPhee’s parents were also pretty bad too. Remember the night when Simon apologized for criticizing Kat? According to the insider reports, the night before, when they went to commercials, Papa McPhee made a beeline for the judges’ chairs. Simon and Randy managed to escape, but poor Paula got the full blast (I wonder if that’s why she refused to apoligize the next day).

I’m not saying that he is the reason Simon apologized, I’m just using the apology as a landmark (I believe that was the yellow dress night as well).

Jeff is mighty tame with his glares and not giving standing Os.

I just have to say…love peeps who crash a party and then complain about the entertainment.

You’ve heard it before, but thanks once again for all the work you do, MJ! There’s good reason why this is the one and only site I visit for AI scoop. ;)

  • skylight1219

Just imagine if Kat had been 17 years old. I cringe to think about it.

And, for the record, I think I read that MJ said she even voted some for Jason during the season,so, it hasn’t all been about David Cook.

“Welcome to show business” is how I feel, too. Anybody who tries out for this show has to know that if they make it very far they are going to face 1) mean judges, 2) cameras in their face 24/7, 3) lots of emotional stress, 4) too little sleep, 5) crappy song choices rammed down their throats and/or lots of clearance issues, 6) fans who burst into tears at the mention of their names and 7) general unfairness and unpleasant treatment. It’s what they sign up for!

At least nobody is making them eat worms, compete against other drunk cheerleaders and sorority girls to sleep with one unworthy guy, or hook up to a lie detector and tell their husbands whether they’re cheating on them. (Just trying to say that AI is hardly the worst when it comes to reality TV.)

Part of show biz is personality and ability to deal effectively with media. I think that’s a fair thing to judge. And it’s not just Simon because Seacrest said the same thing, warning Larry King to have extra questions ready to try to get something out of Archie.

…(Simon)said Fantasia was (and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m paraphrasing) just a bunch of noise; that she came out of nowhere, screamed and left abruptly; that sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s talented but sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s marketing herself all wrong and thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s why sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not selling; she should be singing stuff like summertime, and that he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really care if she never spoke to him again. But it was funnier when he said it.

Well, of course, Simon knows best.

He knows about making money. I think Fatasia’s biggest offense to Simon, based on that night, is that she wasn’t Leona. Don’t get me wrong; LL has a fantastic voice and is beautiful but who cares?

I agree about changing opinions especially this late in the game. I think Cook is a run of the mill rocker who is somewhat overrated. I think off the show, he’ll sound like most out there. He’ll be unoriginal. However, they’ve wanted a rock winner since they got cheated with Daughtry. So it works for them. Plus they need a winner who can sell albums after one big flop and one semi-flop. Cook has the potential to sell.

I am making my BOLDEST prediction even. Win or lose, Archie will get more tabloid attention after the show than Cook. While he seems autistic on the show, he actually has a personality. He will be more interesting to follow than Cook who is a bit of a bore.

No need to convince me that I’m wrong. We’ll know in about 3- 6 months. Plus I’ve never voted on Finale night and won’t blemish a perfect record tonight so I’m a bystander.

Building up oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s favorite, and, tearing down another doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t result in anyone having a change of heart or mind.

I totally beg to differ. Many people have commented that they liked (or at least didn’t mind) a certain contestant but grew to hate that contestant based on the OTT reactions of their fans. It’s not fair, but it’s human for people to react like that.

So, I suggest that if fans really want to help their favourite, don’t go OTT. Don’t liken the competition to cockroaches or junk food. Grant that the opposition does have some talent and the fans aren’t clueless idiots with no lives. Just say it’s a matter of differences in taste.

But, if you just want to win a pissing match, than pull out the hyperbole. Accuse the other side of ruining Idol with their rabid voting. Make up a name to insult them. Say, repeatedly, “I don’t know why anybody could like so-and-so”. Yell at others for being biased. You may just win the match, but you may also end making some people dislike your favourite and an entrenched fanwar. This is a proven strategy of both Taylor and Daughtry fans from Season 5 and the results reverb to this day.

So, I agree with skylight that you will never convince people to like your favourite by tearing down their favourites, but you may convince them to hate your favourite.

Disclaimer: I know, I know. This is typical stuff around final time. People get excited. People want to convince others to vote for their favourites. Heck, people are trying to convince themselves. But, really (and both sides are guilty of doing it today), it’s not helping. LOL. I’m such a bossy lecturer these days. I guess it’s because I like both dudes and this is all making me feel caught in the middle. Kumbaya anybody?

  • skylight1219

Actually, Cook seems to be highly intelligent. Even Syesha said he intimated her for a while, because he is a word nerd.

I don’t know why I even get involved in these discussions, since I’m not voting for either. I just think Cook should win.

And, for the record, I think I read that MJ said she even voted some for Jason during the season,so, it hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t all been about David Cook.

I’m a bad fan. I always split my vote. I voted for both Cook and Jason up until Top 4, then I was all Cook. Early in the season, I voted for as many as 4 contestants at one time.

Last year, I stopped voting altogether after Top 4. Even though I was a Blake fan (and Sligh before him) I thought any of the Top 3 would make a fine winner. I thought both Jordin and Blake would have success on the charts. Well, I was half right!

Season 5, I was a Taylor fan, I wanted him to win, but would have been fine with an Elliott win. If Daughtry had won, I would have dealt. I kinda knew he’d be more successful than Taylor. I split my votes between Taylor and Elliott all the way to the finale, where I only voted for Taylor.

I usually have several favorites during the season. This year it was Cook, Jason, Brooke and Michael.

And in the end, if my favorite doesn’t win, I’m bummed for a little bit, but I get over it.

    Kirsten-great post!

I like both Davids…they are both talented and will sell well in each of their respective markets. There is usually one person each season that touches my heart and makes me “feel” more than any other and this year it is DA. I don’t look at his age, life experience, conversational skills, marketability, or anything else. It’s who moves me, plain and simple.

Good luck to both Davids tonight!!
