I’m starting the Spoiler thread early today, since it looks like we already know the names of two of tonight’s song choices:

  • David Cook – “Innocent” – Our Lady Peace (via their website) Acoustic version My Space
  • David Archuleta – “Angels” – Robbie Williams ( from a reliable source on the scary boards, via Idol Forums) You Tube
  • Jason Castro – “Over The Rainbow” – Israel Kamakawiwo version You Tube
  • Brooke White – “You’ve Got A Friend” – James Taylor/Carole King
  • Syesha Mercado – “I Believe” – Fantasia
  • Michael Johns – “Dream On” – Aerosmith
  • Kristy Lee Cook – “Anyway” – Martina McBride
  • Carly Smithson – “The Show Must Go On” – Queen

Per Idol Forums…
I’ll edit in the rest. Post spoilers if you find them! Thanks peeps!

  • dukesterathlete

ahhhhhhh! I called it! I’m so proud of myself. David archy is gunna kill it!

  • dukesterathlete

I love these spoilers mj, u just made my next 2 hours of math class bearable. If I can throw out an idea- there are a couple of videoes of David singing Angels on YouTube if u want to post them…I know ur not a big fan and Id do it but I’m on my iPod. Thanks

  • cheese

I am shocked (shocked!) that Archie would sing a big ballad that he learned in elementary school. Half a million people have already watched him sing it on YouTube. Bleh. I predict that he gets the pimp spot and Paula’s face melts off from all the hysterical crying.

I’m interested to see what direction DC goes with “Innocent.” I really like the song but accept that the judges may hate it, America will listen to the judges and he might end up on the stools on Thursday. I’m surprised that Nigel even “let” him sing it, if he is as favored as he seems to be. Or not. If everyone is singing sappy stuff, DC may stand out in a good way.

  • dulce

OMG. Archuleta is officially the most predictable, boring contestant on American Idol. I’m sick of the preachy, whiny power ballads that this kid and his crazy family will push down our throats. This is Clay Aiken 2.0 with even less edge if that were even possible. I think 99% of the galaxy called this song for him.

  • panz

Is KLC going to sing Amazing Grace tonight?

  • skylight1219

Clay Aiken is anything but boring. Now, if Archie dons a red leather jacket, and, sings Grease, then he will break out of his mold.

  • KrazeeK120

Angels…isn’t that the one that Jessica Simpson covered? If so, ew, I don’t like that song. And it doesn’t seem like there’s a whole lot you can “do” with that song…i.e. it’s a boring song and I’m not sure that there’s a way (even for the most creative artist) to change that.

I’m not familiar with David C.’s song, but I’m interested to hear it.

And yes, this is quickly turning into the most predictable and boring season EVER!

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

So when are the judges going to call Archie a one-trick pony?

ETA: Cheese, I’m sure David C will do a good job. He’s nothing if not consistant. I don’t see him on the seal.

  • KrazeeK120

pj…the same day Pauler admits what is in her big red cup.

  • bigepaz

I believe “Angels” is originally a Robbie Williams song:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQxZztI7264

The David A. hate here is pretty sad. Personally, I hope all the Idols do well this week — as this is the big charity week.

  • KrazeeK120

bigepaz…Yeah…I know it’s originally Robbie Williams. I know Jessica Simpson did a cover of a song called “Angels” and I was wondering if it is the same song.

As far as the David A. “hate”…no one here is making cruel remarks about him or anything. There are just a lot of people who are fed up with the constant praise he gets for pretty much doing nothing. He hasn’t stepped out of his comfort zone AT ALL yet, but the judges fawn over him and turn around and tell some of the other contestants that they need to stop doing the same thing week in and week out. The inconsistency is bothersome to many (including myself).

  • primeminister

    GASP the H word!

Did Archuleta not get the memo that it isn’t This is My Now week yet? Bleh, I’m sure he’ll sing Angels well enough. His fans will love it.

Now DCook’s pick? That’s something I actually look forward to see.

  • gerreb

I think David A will do great

The David A. hate here is pretty sad.

Everyone here is entitled to an opinion. Don’t make judgements on your fellow posters. These are the guidelines:

    http://mjsbigblog.com/?page_id=1172

    READ THEM.

Posts that don’t follow these guidelines GET DELETED.

ETA: I also have 0 tolerance for fan wars, or threads that devolve into petty bickering. That’s not how we play here.

  • bigepaz

KrazeeK120 – that’s a fair and rationale critique that doesn’t come off as emotional. thanks.

  • ianamy

bigepaz, I think this comes with Archie’s frontrunner status. He is a threat to everyone’s favorite. If anything, I am glad that this little kid could generate such strong emotions in people. He’s a star and this comes with the territory.

In Rickey’s they love him. He brings hundreds (if not thousands) of posts to that site every day, and enormous hits.

  • baxter

Krazee- I agree with you. No one ‘hates” little d but the sameness is starting to wear. I hope all the Idols do well, ok maybe not Carly, but no hate coming from my camp. Seriously the kid has been singing that song (see youtube) since he was in pull-ups, so it’s all rather anti-climatic to me. Jason and Brooke get a smack down for never changing it up, yet little d gets a free pass. Just because you can sing well, doesn’t mean you have to be repetitive. I would have a hell of a lot more respect for the guy if he would come out and surprise me JUST ONCE!!!

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

In Rickeyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s they love him. He brings hundreds (if not thousands) of posts to that site every day, and enormous hits.

Has Rickey shown you his stats? LOL.

    I think this bears repeating:

The big difference between me and Rickey is that I DON’T run this site like a fansite. If reading criticism of your favorite Idol bothers you, this might not be the best place for you.

  • ianamy

Has Rickey shown you his stats? LOL.

The number of posts is an observation, while the hits are an deduction. Archie is also huge in Idf and AI boards, which is a fact. I am just telling bigepaz no need to be too concerned. There is a lot of love and backlash when you are this popular.

  • ianamy

The big difference between me and Rickey is that I DONà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢T run this site like a fansite. If reading criticism of your favorite Idol bothers you, this might not be the best place for you.

En, it does not bother me at all. As I said, if anything I am glad.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Archie is also huge in Idf and AI boards, which is a fact.

Both of those sites are fan boards. Again, my blog–NOT a fanboard.

I don’t want to belabor this. But as things heat up here, and they are, I want to make what I expect from posters perfectly clear.

  • rockchalk

Thanks for the spoilers. David A really couldn’t be any more predictable could he? Oh well, I have come to have relatively low expectations when it comes to him and his song choices. Now David C…that is something I am excited about. Hopefully the judges don’t rain on his parade.

  • ianamy

Both of those sites are fan boards. Again, my blogà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’NOT a fanboard.

mj, I am not questioning how you run your website. I was just talking to bigepaz actually.

I’m sorry to have stirred the pot. MJ – I love your site and have read through your guidelines. thanks.

  • baxter

Hey MJ- DO you know if Caffiend or CarieB is attending rehersals today???

ETA- Rockchalk…I’m assuming a Kansas fan??? If so Congrats!! Great game.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Geez, I wish David A’s Dad would teach him some jazz. That’s supposedly his kind of music, right? A jazzed up version of “Wonderful World” would have been a great surprise.

Hey MJ- DO you know if Caffiend or CarieB is attending rehersals today???

    I don’t know. I haven’t heard.

I’m sorry to have stirred the pot. MJ – I love your site and have read through your guidelines. thanks.

    Thanks bigpaz.

During Season 5, things got pretty gnarly around here. I want people to be able to express their opinions freely without others making judgements or arguments breaking out. I hope we can do that this season.

  • rockchalk

baxter – Thanks!! A Kansas student actually…no classes today!!

  • bigepaz

mj – i was mostly a lurker during season 5. but i remember all the “debates” on Taylor vs. Kat vs. Daughtry, etc. I have no idea how you handle it all, and you do a really great job of moderating all the comments.

But back to this season – I can’t wait for more song spoilers!!! 8pm is too long from now (I’m on the west coast). DC’s choice sounds “spot on”.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I have no idea how you handle it all, and you do a really great job of moderating all the comments.

Thanks. I try not to lose it, but sometimes I do.. :sealed_tb:

  • MrsTrep

I have to say that I am in the camp that is bummed about Archie’s song choice. I know other idols are doing songs they have sung before, but I’d like to see him step outside his box and leave the sappy ballads for something a little more uplifting and fun. I realize IGB week is the PERFECT week for his typical message laden minute thirty, but next week I’d love some pop drivel from him. It’s hard when the judges call others to step outside their box, slam them for stepping outside etc and let others sit idly in their box….

ETA: speaking of S5, Elliott’s on my radio. Oh how I miss season 5, but not the bickering… we love you MJ!

  • Kirsten

    Warning: I’m being pedantic today
Disclaimer: I am not now nor have I ever been a David A fan. If you read me reviews, I constantly complain about him.

So when are the judges going to call Archie a one-trick pony?

Simon did not use those specific words (the judges rarely do), but he told David A to stop picking dreary songs…that they were all sounding the same. So, he has been called on it.

There are just a lot of people who are fed up with the constant praise he gets for pretty much doing nothing. He hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stepped out of his comfort zone AT ALL yet, but the judges fawn over him and turn around and tell some of the other contestants that they need to stop doing the same thing week in and week out. The inconsistency is bothersome to many (including myself).

But, I don’t think the judges are being inconsistent. Unlike with TCO last year (Jordin) who was never called on her bad performances (and when they were so bad, they couldn’t be ignored, her problems were dismissed with “you’re just 17″), this year, they have called David A’s on his. He was thoroughly trashed on L/M night and that was a night where he definitely tried to step out of his ballad comfort zone (and crashed and burned). David A, much though I just don’t care for him myself, just tends to be consistently good at what he does (IMO).

Did Archuleta not get the memo that it isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t This is My Now week yet?

If anything, IBG is the preview week for “This is My Now” week. I expect big old sloppy, maudlin ballads. Sooner or later, everybody gets a theme or two that plays to their strengths.

In Rickeyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s they love him. He brings hundreds (if not thousands) of posts to that site every day, and enormous hits.

Rickey is a great guy, but I hate board wars. I’m glad that Rickey has found somebody he likes and he readers enjoy visiting his site. I enjoy visiting it too, but I don’t think MJ has to become a David A rah-rah site just because that’s what Rickey is doing.

Has Rickey shown you his stats?

Like most things on the net, he doesn’t have to.

Traffic history for Rickey’s site (complements of Alexa)

If you change the range to one year, you can see that his traffic is up this season over last.

  • http://coviesonline.com sue

If the spoiler is true then I am glad that Archie is singing “Angels”. I actually love that song and it is familiar enough to the general audience. Archie has been picking songs that aren’t as familiar in the past couple of weeks and this is actually a good idea to stick with that. As far as ballads, I am glad that he is sticking with what he knows best and what he does best. I actually think they all sing the same style each week, no one really has gotten out of the box for me. It still great and I think they are all doing well. My bf is rooting for David C. and I am all for Archie. I just adore his innocence and his vulnerable tone when he sings. I love David Cook’s “Little Sparrow” studio version, now that is a hit. Good luck to all of them, and I think Cook is the front-runner and Archie is trying to catch up. Whoever wins is going to be fine, they are selling to different crowds. Peace out, it’s going to be a lot of idol this week, :) .

  • KeyserS

He was thoroughly trashed on L/M night and that was a night where he definitely tried to step out of his ballad comfort zone (and crashed and burned).

I agree that he tried to step out of his comfort zone that week, and that’s my biggest issue with him. What kind of teeny-tiny comfort zone does this kid have if “We Can Work It Out” is such a huge departure for him? If he sang “Yellow Submarine” or “Helter Skelter” sure, I could forgive him and applaud his boldness, but if he couldn’t at least be competent on WCWIO, it would seem that he has, like, zero range, thematically.

  • georgew

    Re: David Cook – Innocent

Once again a great song choice by Cook – the lyrics are truly inspirational and fitting considering Cook’s brother’s ongoing struggle with cancer.

To the above poster that said the judges may not like his pick…I share your concern – it is not the typical cheese-laced, sap inducing balladry that TPTB probably have in mind for this theme (We’ll leave that to little david a.)

However, keep in mind – Our Lady Peace is Cook’s favorite band. Innocent is one of their best songs. It was kind of an underground hit but was never in heavy rotation on rock radio or MTV (mind you – great, great video!) Regardless, the song has probably never been heard by even close to the number of people who will hear it on American Idol.

Tonight, Cook has the opportunity introduce his favorite band to a receptive mass audience that has likely never heard them before and otherwise never would. Those circumstances in and of themselves are inspiring.

My prediction – Cook will deliver the goods tonight!

Footnote – I doubt he’ll perform the acoustic version linked above. The original is much catchier and more emotive. Plus, with all the (undeserved) flack Cook has taken recently for performing remixed versions of the songs he chooses – my guess is he will perform the original version or his own slightly different arrangement more suited to his vocal stylings. (FYI – the video for the original version is posted on youtube)

  • neonorange

David Cook’s choice sounds promising. I usually vote for whoever is the best of the night. That is why I love lurking on MJ’s. You don’t get any of that “We got save him/her” or “he/she can sing the phonebook and I would still vote” crap. MJ’s posters definitely aren’t afraid to call out bad performances. How does a contestant grow if they are protected from every bad decision? I’m all for landing their a** in the bottom 3 and shake them up a bit.

  • Kirsten

    If he sang à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Yellow Submarineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ or à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Helter Skelterà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ sure, I could forgive him and applaud his boldness

Okay, you probably didn’t mean it this way, but now I have visions of David A pulling a reverse David C…finding some big rock song and converting it to a sappy ballad. “Helter Skelter” as a sappy ballad would definitely have gotten some tongues wagging.

I actually think they all sing the same style each week, no one really has gotten out of the box for me.

I have to pretty much agree with this. Chikezie had a moment of brilliance where he burst out of his box and landed on another planet, but then he returned to his Luther box.

Other than that, they have all been pretty much welded into their boxes this year. Sure, David C creatively drags stuff into his box, but he doesn’t leave it. Michael has pushed the sides of his box out a bit to get a shape that suits him. Syesha has a box with lots of sound proofing to protect the others when she shrieks. Carly flails around in her box. Jason snoozes in his box. Brooke smiles contendly imagining what craft project she will do next to decorate the inside of her box. And even Kristy’s box wishes it could eject her.

I, personally, enjoy performances more when I recognize the song that’s being sung. David C’s choice is a risk, imho. That being said, if K.L.Cook sings Amazing Grace, I’m going to have to take a walk.

Archie’s pretty predictable. It’ll be interesting to see what MJ picks.

    Must be Tuesday.

This is so sketchy, I hesitate to even post it, but what the hell. This is from a poster at IDF:

I just read a hint of a spoiler over at EW. (The poster also indicated hints for the Davids, both of which pointed to the now-well-leaked songs, so that’s something.) She said that Jason would sing something that is a surprise and that it’s something in common with McPhee.

They are speculating that Jason might be singing this version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=2A2Jt4WOxN8

I couldn’t find the referenced comment at EW.com, though

You’re right — I didn’t mean it that way, but oh, what a delightfully hysterical image!

Other than that, they have all been pretty much welded into their boxes this year.

Good point. And I think that’s why this season has been dull and mainly trainwreck-free (aside from Kristy’s glorious “8 Days a Week”). Everyone’s trying so hard to stick to their niches, probably because (with the exception of Kelly C.), the most successful Idols have belonged to some sort of genre (Carrie’s country success, Daughtry’s “rock”).

  • jpfan

Totally agree that they’re all in boxes. There’s very little development or growth at all this season. They leave when people get tired of the box they’re in or their limits become too apparent.

I don’t really like either song and don’t have much hope that Carly or Micheal will pick anything better. Too bad Syesha is a shrieker because they’re so much good inspirational r&b out there. Imagine if someone this season had the ability to do one of Marvin Gaye’s great songs.

  • liza41

I have never been a huge David A. or David C. fan, but I really do get tired of seeing all of the negative posts about David A. (he is talented). And I don’t think it is predictable that he is singing “Angels.” The only reason that people have any idea he has sung it in the past is because some audience member somewhere thought it was good enough to film and save years ago. I am sure David C. has performed “Innocent” before since Our Lady Peace is his favorite band. The only difference is that no one cared enough to film it. I am looking forward to seeing Brooke. Not always the best, but I think she has made an effort to change things up more than most.

  • thedingoateyobaby

OMG! I LOVE Robbie Williams and thats a fabulous song for Archuletta to sing!

If my boy Jason does SOTR I swear I’ll cut my throat. On the other hand, he’s got lots of tricks in his bag and he is (IMO) capable of taking that song and really doing something special with it.

Im not an Archuletta fan thats for sure but that song is awesome. I am however a huge Robbie Williams fan.

  • dukesterathlete

well my instincts tell me that i dont belong on all these boards and i am deff in the minority when it comes to david a (just an observation from the majority of “i loathe/i’m bored with david a” posts) but i kind of like it. i think i’m just gunna stick it out till he wins the whole thing…gloat… and then take my unwanted opinions somewhere else.

and i really really really hope david archuleta gets the pimp spot tonight and the judges give him tons and tons of praise for his singing…because lets face it- he deserves it and he is so much better than all the other contestants. hah

  • jersey

I would be okay if Jason sang that version of “SOTR”. I’m not sure how the judges would react since they love belter songs and that is generally speaking, a belter song.

ETA: certainly no reason to “gloat” if David A. wins. Regardless of the varying opinions of him, I believe it’s generally accepted that he’ll at least be final two. As for him getting the pimp spot tonight, I would be shocked if the producers were that obvious – but you never know.

  • Little Boy Blue

I don’t think Carole King’s “YOU GOT A FRIEND” has ever been performed on the show. I nominate Brooke White to do this.

Also, another lady who has done a lot of insprational songs is Ann Murray. Brooke White’s range is right up her alley. She should try one of Ann Murray’s songs.

  • PattyP

Maybe Jason is planning to sing “I Believe I Can Fly.” Kat did that one, too, and it would certainly fit the “inspirational” theme. Now I’m anxious to see what he actually chose. I did read somewhere (locally here in the D/FW area, I think) that he was “excited” about his choice for tonight.

  • ianamy

I won’t “gloat” when he wins. If he wins that’s just what it is: he is the most popular one and gets more votes. There are a lot of talent this year. It just happens that I think David A is the most talented one over others. All the negativity comes naturally with the frontrunner status. DCook was frontrunner for one week and that week he is buries with the “covergate.”

  • geekygirl

I’m laughing here at David A’s choice. Good luck to him because I know that Simon absolutely DESPISES that song. He threw a real strop about people singing it for auditions and claimed that it should be banned forever on UK tv. I will be interested to see if he can separate his feelings for the song and little D’s performance.

As for Jason and SOTR, if he did Israel Kamakawiwo Ole’s version he could knock it out of the park. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe5p1BXNCQM&feature=related

also, everyone is biased. whether you are aware of it or its subconscious, u are always going to be biased towards the person you like. and if there is someone who is better than the person you like, than your natural inclination is to criticize them in any way possible. its only natural.

and, i’m sure david a’s not the first person to sing a song that he has sung prior to the show. if that makes him predictable, than i bet 90% of the contestants on idol are predictable.

i think comb-over cook is a talented man (obviously), but he just doesnt have the attitude/swagger that you need to be a rocker. and he’s smug.

Ohh my gosh that would be really pretty if he did that, but I don’t know how that would go over with the public?

Some of the writers on EW are suggesting he sing a Tom Petty song, which might be a good idea.

I would like to see Jason sing something with a kind of bluesy/r&b/jazzy feel… he did so well with “Crazy”. Maybe something by Louis Armstrong or Nat King Cole.

He’s got something in common with McPhee. David A.’s is fitting for his “rabid fans.” Spoilers if you want to figure it out.

That version of SOTR seems like such a good fit for Jason. I’ll bet he sounds good doing it.

  • baxter

Ohhhh I think I could really like Jason’s choice, if it reallyis his song. Maybe it will wash the stench that Kat left on it for me. THis song is always hard for me to hear someone else sing because I have Eva Cassidy’s version so entrenched in my mind.

Good Luck Jason. I think you could really hit a homerun with this. Nice job going in a direction I never would have imagined.

  • cheese

Maybe Jasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trying for the Hawaiian votes.

Pffft. CarieB, please vote for DC tonight. Aloha and thankyew. :tongue1_tb:

  • taran33

If that is Jason’s song choice I can’t imagine him anywhere but in the bottom three. To me he is as predictable as David A. without the voice to pull it off. I’ve downloaded Jason’s music off of Itunes and quite frequently his voice breaks. I had high hopes for him, but not anymore.

  • bigepaz

Oh man…Castro has faded for me as of late, but I absolutely love IZ’s version of SOTR. I hope he can make it work!

  • skylight1219

I actually like Israel’s verson of SOTR. It’s a medley which includes “What A Wonderful World.” I certainly hope that if Jason does sing this, that he doesn’t sit on the stage barefooted. Maybe a yellow shirt which malfunctions would be nice! One can only hope.

  • longsong

Nooooo!! I absolutely LOVE all of Jason’s studio recordings on iTunes – with the exception of “Michelle”. His voice is much stronger, better and more interesting than the judges give him credit for, IMO.

I just hope the freakin’ mosh pit doesn’t do their stupid clapping, the idiots.

I LOVE, LOVE, HAVE ALWAYS loved Israel’s version of sotr ! Zing!

I don’t think Jason can go wrong with that song. They’ll have to try to drive the bus over him again during Mariah week. Now I’m more worried about DC’s song choice. I hate being a fantard.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

When I hear that IK version of OTR, All I can think of is Dr. Greene dying of brain cancer! :)

BTW, I’m glad these are leaking before TMZ has a chance to spoil them. They bug me.

I’m a tad worried about this. Not that I don’t believe Jason will do a beautiful job, but I’m not sure the judges will like it.

    Who is Dr. Greene?

  • GwendolynD

    Who is Dr. Greene?

    Character on ER.

  • NOLA

I’m sure Jason will do well with this version of SOTR; but it’s very much in his comfort zone. It will be interesting to hear Simon’s comments.

  • http://www.xanga.com/hisaki_chan707 Hisaki

Archie’s going to be massively overpimped, and Jason will probably extremely shortchanged with much thanks to the judges’ biases. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to both of their performances tonight, and Jason’s studio recording even moreso. I don’t care much for his lives, but he’s got a fantastic studio voice.

I’m still hoping Cookie’s going to pull off that acoustic version of “Innocent”. Agh. I’m growing impatient.

  • jersey

ER, PJ. I really think Jason can do a wonderful job with this. But I need to be spoiled on performance order since I won’t be home! I may have to give you my cell number, MJ, so you can call me with Jason’s text number (I promise to throw some votes DC’s way too, if you do!)

  • abbysee

Kirsten, thanks for bringing a little balance to the David A discussion. I am a fan who sees his flaws and they are glaring, but that doesn’t take away his obvious talent. I dont mind the snarking this is AI we are talking about for god’s sakes not national security or WW III. It’s a freakin’ tv show.

Dingo, this song is a good one for Archie, I hope he does well as he makes me feel so many different things when he sings. Too bad I am neither a tween, nor a granny so I can’t vote for him. Damn, Simon! LOL!

MJ, I am glad you don’t run a fansite, I thought I actually wanted one and then I went elsewhere and felt like I went down a rabbit hole, there was a vial that said drink me, but I don’t like kool aid, so I resisted. A little reality is a good thing.

Don’t worry pj. So Simon will hate it, he’ll call it beatnik beach music or some such nonsense.

Or he’ll solemnly say — brilliant.

    Such is Simon.

Angels… ahh this will be a good performance by DA tonight.

  • primeminister

I don’t know how reliable this person is…but someone on IDF says:

    Syesha: “I Believe” by Fantasia
David Cook – “Innocent” by Our Lady Peace
Carly Smithson — “The Show Must Go On” by Queen
Brooke White — “You’ve Got a Friend” by James Taylor
Jason Castro — “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland
Michael Johns — “Dream On” by Aerosmith
Kristy Lee Cook — “Anyway” by Martina McBride
David Archuleta — “Angels” by Robbie Williams

    IDF

Confirmed to be correct: Syesha, DCook, Jason, Archuleta

ETA: The poster who confirmed Jason’s is saying this list is correct.

  • http://www.xanga.com/hisaki_chan707 Hisaki

@primeminister: What the heck is Carly thinking? I think she’s going to end up seriously confusing viewers — going from rock to power ballad to rock, week to week. She should be quite interesting tonight.

Is that the correct order, by the way?

  • primeminister

TMZ’s spoilers are up. The poster at IDF is correct.

  • primeminister

Is that the correct order, by the way?

TMZ hasn’t been putting them up in order…but if you check, both lists are spoiled in the same order. The poster at IDF (who beat TMZ to it…WOOT!) didn’t say anything write anything other than the list I copied.

Ah, yeah. Guess I shouldn’t be worried about that order happening, then. Putting Archie in the pimp spot again and Syesha in the death slot again seems a little too conspirative.

  • NOLA

Kristy has the best song of the night. Let’s see what she does with it.

  • bean99

I’m happy about Michael’s choice. I’m not so sure about Jason’s but will be interested to hear it. Syesha is just asking for it, Whitney last week and now Fantasia. I don’t know Kristy’s song but Martina has a much better range.

I wish we’d get spoilers on how they did at rehearsal.

  • NOLA

I hope Syesha goes first, so I can mute her ass and then sit back and enjoy the show :)

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Syesha is just asking for it, Whitney last week and now Fantasia.

Fantasia sings the hell out of that crappy coronation song. In lesser hands, it turns back into an ordinary song. Syesha is foolish indeed.

    Martina’s “Anyway”

Damn. As much as I hate to say it, KLC might stay another week. If I remember correctly, Martina sang that same song on Idol at some point within the last 2 seasons; many Idol viewers are quite familiar with it. Augh.

That song list is making it extremely hard to figure out who might be going to go home. Those wildly familiar song choices make it seem as if it’s anyone’s to lose right now.

  • NOLA

I wish MJ had chose something else. The judges like his blusie side a lot more than his rocker side.

It might be time for a “surprise” boot this week…

Performance order this week will be interesting.

  • weelassie

Oh, I love Iz’s version of Over the Rainbow. Absolutely love it. It was the closing song for Finding Forrester and several other movies and gave me chills it was so pretty. It is also pretty popular so it should be very recognizable.

  • manny

Syesha’s friend reports that she will be going 2nd. Bye, bye Syesha!

  • weelassie

Randy said on Larry King last night that on non-mentor nights, they pick the order out of a hat. Yeah, right.

  • maracaibo

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m happy about Michaelà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s choice.

    ME too.

I am proud of him for taking such a bold choice. It might go either way.
It may be too risky and the judges might hate it, but I applaud him for not going safe.
You never know, he could do it very well. I LOVE that song.
And MJ definitely has a big old voice. Let’s cross our fingers bean99…
Even if the judges bash him I know I will love it… Wink… Go MJ!

    Wow. That’s bad for her.

  • Lisa

OTR is one of my guilty pleasures & Iz’s version is my favorite. This very well could be Jason’s showstopping moment! Jason has that soft melodic voice that I believe can really pull this off. I truly hope so.

Being a DC fan with Jason & MJ running a close second I think I might have to split my votes tonight between DC & Jason.

  • http://www.xanga.com/hisaki_chan707 Hisaki

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m happy about Michaelà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s choice.

I think he could hit it out of the park again this week. Well, either that or he’ll totally bomb it. Like maracaibo said, it seems he’s only going to one of two ways.

I’m definitely hoping for the former, though. His husky voice is almost near damn perfect for that song.

  • weelassie

I think Jason should play the ukele :)

  • xoxoyc

I don’t think they are voting anyone off this week- they didn’t last year.

  • http://www.xanga.com/hisaki_chan707 Hisaki

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think they are voting anyone off this week- they didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t last year.

That was a “surprise” thing last year (a point which Ryan overpimped then; he hasn’t said anything like it this season so far). They’re actually having the usual full-hour elimination episode this week, but on Thursday instead of Wednesday (which is when the IGB episode airs). They’re not going to go through all that trouble if they arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t going to eliminate anyone.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Wish Syesha was doing the old “I Believe”. It’s a great song and would let her belt….

I believe for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows.
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night, a candle glows.
I believe for everyone who goes astray, someone will come to show the way.
    I believe, I believe.
I believe above the storm the smallest pray’r will still be heard.
I believe that someone in the great somewhere hears every word.
Every time I hear a newborn baby cry, or touch a leaf or see the sky,
Then I know why I believe!

  • http://airincaol.com coco

If David A. sings Angels …I hope he doesn’t constantly roll that imaginary dice in his microphone – free hand….maybe a few spastic hand moves like Jess Simpson did when she sang it…….btw I love David A.

  • http://www.xanga.com/hisaki_chan707 Hisaki

WTF. I double posted. Sorry. Deleted.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

No, XO, there is a separate results show on Thursday night. Someone will be going home.

Yeah, Michael will either knock it out of the park or completely bomb. That’s a tough song to sing. I hope he has the upper range for it.

At least, if nothing else, we FINALLY get a few songs written after, you know, 1990.

  • NOLA

I’m not doubting Michael’s ability to sing that song. I just remember what the judges said last night…that they don’t like him doing rock songs and that he should stick to his blusie side.

  • lg

I think Michael will deliver a great version of Dream On…it sort of has a blues influence, so this song is perfect for him. Also looking forward to David C. I am undecided which one I like best – a good dilemma to have. David C jumped up 1,000 points in my book last week with Little Sparrow. Jason may not be my style, but he’s just so freakin’ adorable and sweet. I really hope he does well.

  • sciencefan

I’m terrified that Simon will hate the ukulele version and accuse Jason of sounding like a circus clown. I personally don’t like it at all. I think it’s stupid that way. It ruins it.
    I hope I’m wrong.
I’m still going to vote for Jason for two hours, no matter what.

  • colette

A few thoughts (trouble with posting, so forgive me if this is redundant:

    1) Syesha made a big mistake going after the same vocal bonfire songs that Whitney-Fantasia-La Toya-LaKisha can do. She does not have that elastic a voice, and if she stayed more within her vocal comfort zone she’d have been a lot better off. And I agree totally that “I Believe” is cheese whiz on toast. LaKisha hit all the notes, and it helped bring her down even so.

    2) My fave Dave is such an ingenious musician, with such a good feel for what he can do with a song, that I’m really looking forward to his take on “Innocent.” One thing that consistently impresses me is that he’s not just a master-blaster vocalist, though he can definitely wail — he’s also got a lot of beauty and color and shading in his vocal range and style and timbre. Even if he copies an arrangement, his voice is very distinctive. And he isn’t afraid to sound pretty, as well as rockin’ rough.

    3) Respectful disagreement about voting for the best of the night. One thing AI has proved time and again is that it plants booby traps with those crazy “theme nights” that can make the best performers look bad. God help Cookie, Michael Johns, and the other good ones they have to sing Andrew Lloyd Webber or Mariah Carey tunes.

I bet the Mariah night will be #1 Hits, since she just surpassed Elvis in total number of number one hits (I think she has 18 now). No way can it just be Mariah songs, she has an insane range.
