Kristy Lee Cook is eliminated

Elliott Yamin sings “Free”. And Mariah Carey sings “Bye Bye”.

The groups are beginning!

On one side of the stage:

  • Jason Castro
  • Carly Smithson
  • Syesha Mercado

On the other side of the stage:

  • David Cook
  • Kristy Lee Cook
  • Brooke White

ETA: Sorry, the database crashed, and I was distracted. This is what happened tonight…

Ryan brings David Archuleta out to center stage and declares him safe. He asks David Cook and Syesha Mercado to trade places, creating an obvious Bottom 3 and Top 3–Syesha Mercado, Kristy Lee Cook and Brooke White on one side, Jason Castro Carly Smithson and David Cook on the other.

He asks David to choose the Top 3. David sits in the middle of the stage instead of choosing. Ryan tries to scoot him over to the side where Jason Castro, Carly Smithson and David Cook are standing, but David doesn’t budge. The Top 3 join him center stage. David Cook sits down on the floor next to him. Ryan declares all four safe. Jason Castro grins and sits down on the floor too. Carly Smithson is so giddy, she jumps up and down. Ryan sends them over to the couches.

Ryan asks Kristy Lee Cook, Brooke White and Syesha Mercado to take center stage. After the break, Syesha Mercado is sent back to the couches. Brooke White is declared safe. Kristy Lee Cook is eliminated.

SO, it looks like the old Top 7 standby move. We’ll see if Ryan says “bottom 3″ or “group with the least votes”. I’d be extremely surprised if Jason was bottom 3, but not surprised if his votes and two of the bottom 3 weren’t least accumulative votes. Will they really have Arch pick?

  • dvls

Aww, poor Archie. I wonder if he planned ahead for this. What will he do??

  • panz

I figured Archie would be the one to have to decide.

The safe group has to be the one that has David Cook, doesn’t it?

Awww, the guy who bought KLC’s horse won’t sell it back.

  • longsong

So help me, if they kick Jason off, I’m gonna HURL!!

  • PrplDva

Hey! Was that Sway singing back-up for Elliott??

Poor Elliott- his mom was so cute-she will be missed.

  • JOJOSIE

Tell me I’m not the only one but was Mariah bad tonight. Was it her or the mike or back-up singers or what? Maybe my taste in music isn’t current enough but I just didn’t get that performance. Elliott was good as always but didn’t stir me too much either, maybe it really is me. Very happy with the results however, but it does seem ironic that when she wasn’t very good she stayed in but now that she’s improved she gets voted off. Like Simon said it finally caught up with her. I can’t say I’ll miss her like I have some of the others.(Michael, sob, sob)

  • RollTide

I’m so happy KLC is gone, that I don’t even mind that I didn’t get any points off her elimination. :)

Poor Elliott, I had no idea about his mom. :(

  • dancingqueen

Sure was Sway – he’s been singing backup for Elliott on most of his gigs.

What a week, David’s brother, Elliott’s Mom, and Mariah’s new song about people who leave us.

So glad Jason’s safe, will have to rev up my dialing fingers now, votes are going to matter a lot from here on out – no complacency.

  • PrplDva

All I can do is SNOOPY DANCE !!!

  • http://www.xanga.com/Cynarajane CJ

Wow, busy here tonight…I just lost a comment I tried to post.

I’m glad KLC is gone finally, but I thought she wasn’t bad this week. I’m just glad she’s not going to be in the top 3 as the dark horse. There is a God.

  • Michelle

Ok, and this is the first week I didn’t have KLC in my bottom 3 begging America to vote her off. Go figure :D

  • abbysee

Glad KLC is gone, and it’s good to go out on a good week, but she wasn’t like the contestants who sing better on boot night. She sorta reminded us that maybe Tuesday was a fluke. She’s a cute girl, but I don’t really expect to hear her on the radio. She’s no Pickler.

Elliott always rises above his material. He can sang! Didn’t understand the scarf, but that’s just nit picking. Glad they acknowledged the passing of him Mom. Really glad.

Mariah flat out can’t sing live. If that was indeed live. It’s funny she has turned into a Janet Jackson type, small voice. Well until she went big diva at the end. What the beginning whisper on purpose and if so, why? She’s become a cariciature (sp) of her former self.

I knew something was funky when Jason and Cookie were on opposite sides. David sitting on the floor was cute, David C siting next to him was adorable. Now if Carly had sat, she might have garnered more votes next week. Maybe not the way she wanted to, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. There hasn’t been any T & A this year! LOL!

All I have to say is yes, Syesha lives on! She’s gonna be the last girl standing. Yep. They can’t afford to have Carly get but so far, unless she knocks off the guys one, by one. This season is weird!

I had a very witty and analytical post prepared, but the new server chewed it up, and spit it out. Well, it wasn’t really that witty!

  • idolbeat

Kristy – you did a great job. I hope Anyway goes to the top!
I know you werent the lowest vote getter but that doesn’t change the fact that you were the best girl last night.

  • Little Boy Blue

DIAL IDOL’s predicitve ability just went down big time. They predicted Carly, Syesha and Brooke in the bottom 3 with Kristy closer to the safe side.

    See here :

    http://dialidol.com/asp/predictions/Predictions.asp

  • joydrop

YES! YES!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So happy right now! FINALLY!!! :clap_tb:

  • Caffiend

Poor Kristy. Maybe she’ll get a country deal. If they give her some good songs like Carrie, she’ll probably have a nice career. She’s so pretty, and she’d probably do some fun videos.

  • rher

I didn’t put any points on Kristy leaving, but I’m not sorry to see her leave. I thought she made a respectible come back from 8 Days A Week, but she really was the weakest link IMO. I’m glad Brooke has another week to redeem herself, even though she may be next to get the boot.

    Hooray for DC and JC!

Mariah’s backup singers were sometimes louder than her and she was having all sorts of problems with her mic or something. Sounded really weird at times, although the song was generally kind of nice.

I luv Elliot and all his humble charm!

  • Chicago-sally

I thought Kristy was safe actually thought she would be the last woman standing. Mariah was GREAT!

  • tinawina

My comment disappeared! Bad Server! LOL!

Well, I was shocked it was Kristy. When I saw the bottom 2, I just knew it was Brooke. I feel weirdly sad for her, though I never really forgave her for “God Bless the USA”. I love her sense of humor however. Singing to Simon was priceless.

I need to just give up that whole pool thing altogether. I am really, really bad at that. Ha.

  • rher

tina – weren’t you at the top of the pool pack for a while? If so, you are doing better than me . .[hangs head in shame] . :downer_ee:

  • tinawina

rher – my reign at the top was a very short one. I peaked early. Kinda like Brooke. Heh.

  • idolbeat

When are the songs available to download?

  • moody

I think the PTB are messing with us. They check out all the AI office pools before the show then send home the person deemed least likely to get booted. (not counting anyone named David, of course) Things that make you go hmmm…

So great to see Elliott again! I’m glad they gave him a chance to mention his mom, very classy.

  • Chicago-sally

How does Brooke stay on? My oh my….I thought KLC would last one more week.

  • abbysee

KLC’s mediocrity just caught up with her. She did in fact have the biggest learning curve, but she really started out at a deficit, and should have gone. I didn’t think she was better than Carly or Syesha, she was just praised higher. But it’s like yeah you use to suck, now you are just adequate. Not good enough. Carly, Syesha are better, and Brooke is unique to the competition as far as females are concerned. Brooke is probably in trouble next week as it’s ALW week and I don’t know if she is creative enough to work it out.

  • Lu

Boy not only am I a bad picker with husbands but I’m a bad picker of castoffs! I thought for sure for sure for positive that Brooke was a goner tonight.

Totally enjoyed Elliott ( I know – that’s a shocker). I thought he whowed real stage presence tonight… and the hand… :( sweet.

  • KrazeeK120

I was super nervous when David C. and Jason were on the opposite side. When they switched Syesha and DC, I felt very much better. I didn’t really care what happened after that because I knew my boys were safe.

  • catdog

I have been picking KLC to go since day one! LOL I liked her sitting next to Simon on the desk and making him blush. I certainly hope she can get that horse back! Maybe Simon can call that stubborn man!

I knew Jason was not in the bottom 3 – oh, those Idol tricks! Good move on David A’s part. Didn’t Bo do that too? I wish they wouldn’t ask them to do that! This show is so cruel!

  • Michelle

KLCà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s mediocrity just caught up with her. She did in fact have the biggest learning curve, but she really started out at a deficit, and should have gone.

She dug herself into a huge hole with 8 Days A Week and God Bless the USA. Otherwise I think she would’ve had a decent chance, considering she seems tougher than the other girls remaining.

  • tinawina

Carly, Syesha are better, and Brooke is unique to the competition as far as females are concerned. Brooke is probably in trouble next week as ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ALW week and I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know if she is creative enough to work it out.

Yeah, that’s pretty much how I see it too. Carly & Syesha are both the kind of singers this contest was originally designed to find, and there has been no one like Brooke in the history of AI. So, Kristy was the odd one out.

In addition to Brooke, I would look for Syesha to be in a bit of trouble next week too. I don’t think she can hold on much longer and AL Webber night may not pull in the kind of casual viewer friendly to her like Mariah night would. Then again, she’s an actress, so…

  • J.S.G.

I thought the best part of group song was the potential of the Syesha-DavidC duet. Maybe they will do something together on tour.

Was deeply moved by Carly rushing with open arms to welcome everyone who was declared safe. She is so genuine isn’t she??

Never believed for a second that Kristy would get the boot. Should have happened a few weeks ago but I admire her strength and stiff upper lip.
Looks like a great athlete but none of that athleticism was shown on stage.
Definately has a career in country music, but it won’t be nearly as good as Kellie’s.

  • jbrad

No points again tonight. I should just give it up, lol. And I don’t know what is wrong with me, but I hated to see Kristy go tonight, just because I really really wanted it to be Brooke. Well, there is always next week.

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

The top 7 songs are now available at iTunes and I am listening to “I Don’t Wanna Cry” even as I write. Jason sounds great and the arrangement doesn’t smother his vocal.

Be sure to use MJ’s link at the top left of her main page.

  • Lisa

I just wanted to say again what a class act Cookie is. Again Ryan was trying to put the pressure on him to explain about his brother and again Cookie did not take the bait. WTG Cookie!

  • http://www.xanga.com/Cynarajane CJ

Boy not only am I a bad picker with husbands but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a bad picker of castoffs! I thought for sure for sure for positive that Brooke was a goner tonight.

OMG, Lu! That totally cracked me up! Yeah, me too, though I’m not in the pool this season…I’m a bad picker of husbands. :lol_wp:

I was a Taylor fan, but always loved Elliott, and always will. It was good to see him tonight.

  • talullah

I’m not counting Brooke out just yet – she may pick up some KLC votes (friends, fellow blondies & roomies, etc.) Although song selection and arrangement could be tough, what I’m worried most for Brooke is her nerves…poor girl, I think she’s beginning to crack under the pressure! True enough that KLC is one tough cookie (hee hee) – but sympathy votes can amount to a lot, as well. Random thoughts….

  • Kirsten

I’m conflicted. On the one hand, Kristy got the boot so I should be happy. On the other hand, I always feel kind of bad when somebody gets tossed when they weren’t really close to being the worst of the night.

In other news, the pool is a bloodbath this week. LOL. I got 6 crummy points and I’m in 32nd for the week. Woo! Full kudos to those who guessed Kristy. Clearly, I didn’t predict she’d get the boot.

  • GeminiDolly

Omg I was freaking out when Jason was standing by Carly and Syesha. Shoulda known idol was going to toy with my emotions that way. Glad Jason is safe and the studio version of IDWC is fabulous.

  • Lisa

Also wanted to say….How cool it was that E wrote *WF Miss You Mom* on his palm and held it up for all to see!

  • tinawina

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not counting Brooke out just yet – she may pick up some KLC votes

Tallulah, this begs the question.. who is going to pick up Kristy votes? There is no natural fit there that I can see. I guess Brooke can get some of them. Let’s see, you have the Hot Chick vote, the VFTW vote, the Country vote, Home state vote, the “Save the Barrel Horse” vote…lol… this could get interesting.

Same with me. When they told David and Jason to split up I wanted to hit Ryan.

  • skylight1219

Seems there’s more to Miss Cook than meets the eye. Check this out:

    http://cdbaby.com/cd/kristylee

She has opened for Glen Campbell, Credence Clearwater Revival, had a modeling contract, was signed for a record deal at 17, but, the label dropped all their young people. There are clips on that site too. She doesn’t sound bad at all.

  • Giggy

I’m VERY glad Brooke in still in, though she needs to come back STRONG next week, but I feel bad for Kristy because she really did well the past two weeks. I can’t connect with Syesha but the girl can sing. I’m also looking for Carly to up her game simply because she has it in her and she’s not bringing her best game yet. WTF? She’s won music awards in Ireland for crap’s sake.

Awwww, David C sitting with David A. That was cute. Glad for Jason tonight, too.

This was the worst eviction wait of the whole season for me. I wish the BEST for Kristy but I’m glad it turned out the way it did. Good things are coming to Kristy. She is a very talented and pretty girl.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/iamthepurplewalrus purplesmile

    That is all. :)

I don’t know if Bo did or not.. I don’t remember him doing it, but I know Melinda did it last year.

  • IGetCranked

Was there some backing tracks that messed up when Mariah sang or was it the backup singers? Something was way weird and she looked totally embarassed after her performance. I had ppl talking in my living room so I didn’t catch it properly.

I was skeered for Jason for a minute. *whew*

  • Metta

Was it my imagination or – when Ryan asked her opinion of Simon’s feedback– did Kristy Lee say that Simon “can be a butthead” at times?!?!

My thoughts on the top 6:

Archie – I’m going to charge a dollar every time someone insists on typing the words “I just don’t get the David A love.” I’m planning to buy a house and the resulting amount will be more than enough for the hefty downpayment I’ll need. Thankfully there are loads of others who DO get the Archie love. I heart him. He’s like a little trembling baby bird with a big confident beautiful voice. With his fanbase, he can cruise along on ballads, but I bet he’ll shake things up soon. Sorry, Cookie Cutters, but this kid is taking the crown.

Jason – Hands down the most gorgeous face – male or female – on the show. He’s smartly figured out what works for him: Less band, More Jason. As a result, he’s had at least TWO “moments” on the show – and I bet there’s more to come. He may reside in a box – don’t kid yourself, they ALL do, every last one of them – but I still never quite know what to expect with him. Top 3, here he comes.

Syesha – Very good singer and looks like a million bucks. Don’t think she really wants a singing career per se, but the publicity she gets from Idol should help secure musical theatre-type work for her. Should just accept her Rodney Dangerfield status and take the high road: Focus on doing her best and graciously accepting the judges’ lameass critiques.

Brooke – One of my early faves. I’m glad she’s still in the competition. I like her, I like her vibe, I want her to do well. She just needs to relax and stick with what she’s most comfortable doing and she could make top 4.

David C – Great voice and a winner at the “making the song your own” game. Overcame the worst hair since Anton Chigurh to win the hearts of many and to give the other David a run for his money (at least in the minds of some.) If he keeps doing what he’s doing, 2nd place is his, easy peasy.

Carly – MJ was right. She should stop trying to please Simon. If she can figure out that her upper register is not the best place for her to hang out, she could last longer than we think – possibly breaking into the top 3.

  • talullah

Tina, if we go by the Hot Chick vote, then I’d have to say Syesha gets that one (Brooke is pretty but wholesome, therefore not technically “hot”) and Carly is too scary – angry and all tatted up.

VFTW – they’re all pretty good at this point vocally (to me) so that could just be a matter of personal taste. I don’t remember KLC’s home state – any other contestants left in the neighborhood? Certainly that bars Carly again from getting any KLC cast-off votes…

The other categories just don’t have any contenders at all (no country, no barrel horse owners) so this should be an interesting race, indeed!

  • HollandX

David’s studio Always Be My Baby is PHENOMENAL!

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I called their machinations. No way Jason and Cookie were on opposites sides. I’m shocked more than last week (but not sad). Gah.

  • skylight1219

If you check out the website I posted, you will find that Kristy lived in Dallas for a while, then moved back to Oregon to rest up for the AI show. So, she and Jason have TX in common.

  • Little Boy Blue

Brooke – One of my early faves. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m glad sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still in the competition. I like her, I like her vibe, I want her to do well. She just needs to relax and stick with what sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s most comfortable doing and she could make top 4.

Well DITTO here. She’s one of the few whose record (if she makes one ) I will want to buy. She gives me that relax, comfortable, feeling when I listen to her sing ( you don’t have to shout at me and melisma me to death to make me like you ).

That said, I think next week will be her last and for that, I think her fans can be grateful that she’s gone as far as she did. I don’t know what she can do to stand out during Andrew Lloyd Webber night where BIG VOICES are the key to success ( hey, they’re either going to be show tunes/musicals or Webber’s own music ). Syesha can shine if she does MEMORIES from Cats for instance.

Brooke has a pleasant tone to her voice but has LIMITED RANGE.

David Cook can kill with one song from Jesus Christ Superstar.

  • skylight1219

Didn’t Cookie have spiked-up, pink hair in his original audition?

  • joydrop

I just bought Jason and David C’s studio recordings for this week. Jason’s voice keeps getting better and better as far as technicality is concerned; you can tell he’s been working with the coaches. I could listen to him all day long. And David’s song is beautiful! I love it and I’m sure many other girls out there do as well, especially considering his “I’m single” announcement tonight.

When did I become this fantard? Someone needs to help me haha.

  • KrazeeK120

I think VFTW is going to go with Jason…just a hunch. He seems to fit the profile of the contestants they tend to like, despite the fact that he CAN actually sing. I think they find the weakest singer (Brooke) to be too boring. Jason will have an amusing caricature over there, for sure.

Jason’s my favorite so more power to VFTW if they support him.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/iamthepurplewalrus purplesmile

Wasn’t David C born in Texas, too? I think I read it somewhere…

It was kind of a weird red highlighted fake mo-hawk with emo bangs. It was really weird. Thank GOD for the stylists on the show!

  • judy

Ok, this show is fixed. Carly was supposed to goooooo home tonight or, at the very least, be in the bottom three. This is not right. Something got very screwed up. Not that I didn’t want Kristy to go, but she was only 8 on my annoyance scale and Carly is at the very top.

All the good feelings I developed for Mariah last night disappeared tonight. That was like an endless song. And it looked like she was doing a lot of little vocal tricks to get through it. She was much more interesting when she was crazy.

And Elliott – I watched his performance a few more times. He is amazing live. That version of Free, though shorter, was every bit as good as the CD version. I’m glad he did that little hand thing for his mom. It was just enough to pay honor to her without bringing things down. I didn’t get the scarf, though.

ETA – I hate the pick the group thing, but I really hate when they sit in the middle of the stage when they have to pick. good lord, be a grownup and pick one. Someone did that last year also. Must have been Jordin (who was only 17).

so does being the picker mean that they had the most votes? little David had more votes than Cook? I cant’ believe that. yup, it’s a fix.

I am listening to the studio version of I Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Wanna Cry right now, and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m telling you – it is BEAUTIFUL.

Mkay, I’ve listened to it a half dozen times now. Jason finally gets the studio star treatment he deserves. The arrangement frames him to flattering effect, although the backing vocals still seem completely unnecessary (they made me LOL). He sounds earthier and more grounded — not as ethereal as usual. I think he is completely serious about this competition and worked harder on this vocal. Or maybe it’s just that Mariah week got him out of his natural comfort zone. Either way, this is his most mature performance yet and I hope to watch his growth over the next several weeks, please.

The pimp spot was clearly an attempt to save him this week. I would like to think Simon and TPTB realize that Jason is love, but I am happy that at least they seem to recognize that Jason is money.

  • abbysee

Metta, cosign once again on what you said.

This is the top 6 I had hoped for. A little something for everyone.

Archie is gonna shake some stuff up, he can survive the death spot this week cause he will get the pimp spot again when it matters most. I purchased his We Can Work it Out, and if it had turned out like this on performance nite maybe he would not be tagged with the boring hat. Kids got pipes and can do up tempo. They all have boxes and he will be sitting very nicely in his come top two nite. That is all I wish far. Won’t say archie FTMFW just yet, cause Cookie is dangerous, but a duel it should be. I just know the idol gods never give us what it should be. I do think if they don’t mess with stuff any further, that they will have two very strong guys at the end, and some serious alsorans that will make someone alot of money. I would sign every damn one left. EVERY ONE!

Well, I kinda doubt this in overall theory, though it could just depend on the year. George Huff picked the groups in season 3, and while I adore George, I’m pretty sure he didn’t have the most votes that week.

Just popping in to say how much I loved seeing Elliott. I just watched the video (twice) and am moved to tears. He sang great and the little tribute to his mother broke my heart. Also notice Jose “Sway” Penala is singing background for him. Elliott’s a class act all the way.

  • Nikki

I can’t remember who asked upthread, but yes, that was Sway singing BGVs for Elliott. He’s been touring with Elliott as his background vocalist. I saw Elliott perform last December, and Sway was with him. Both sounded terrific. I love that Elliott and Sway were in the same Hollywood group dealing with the Brittenums, and now look at them.

  • weelassie

glad to see Sway singing with Elliott. I thought Sway was way better than he had time to show. Just like Patrick Hall-sniff, sniff. I loved him and he didn’t get a chance to show how good I think he is/was. If he was allowed to play the piano, I think he would have stayed much longer.

  • SpenserJ

    How does Brooke stay on?

Cause I vote for her (and Jason) a LOT. I adore her spirit, and the character and texture in her voice. I look forward to seeing her every week, and when I’m watching her, I have to say I’m actually moved by the emotion she puts forth. And, I’m a pretty non-movable person. When Brooke sings, she just brings me into her moment. I can’t really explain it, but apparently I’m not the only one (yet!).

Glad to see both Jason & David C. rewarded with lots of votes for their fantastic performances last night. They were both excellent in their own ways.

I love this season! And, basically I love it because of the 3 people mentioned above. I really also loved MJ and I’m sad he’s not here this week. But, I’ll continue to watch no matter what happens. I find this to be a really enjoyable crew this year.

  • Tony

Anyone up for making excuses for Dial Idol this week? Were they “right” again?

  • StevenD

I felt bad for Kristy. I thought she had a great voice that needed some major work on it something any good coach will be able to work with her on it and anything else wrong can be fixed up in a studio. I also liked her personality on thinks like the bottom three holder she made, the hand me the mike comment, singing to Simon at the end and I laughed out loud when she called him a butt head. She also was the smartest contestant this year when it came down to song choices and drumbing support her type of support when half of america thinks your either talentless or a joke. She has nothing to be ashamed of and should be very proud she got this far.

I actually thought Brooke should have gone home to her really slipping in the ranks and knowing that its going to be very hard for her during Andrew Lloyd Webber night to get something right. I’m sure she’s going to try either “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” or “Everythings Alright” both from Jesus Christ Superstar for their vocal limits. I’m hoping that Carly decideds to sing the title song from Jesus Christ Superstar because I think it would be perfect for her.

I LOVE her studio recording of Without You.

  • Grammie Kari

It seems TPTB want Jason and Carly fighting it out for third place? Carly got more votes than any of the other girls?

I have come to the conclusion that this talking back from the girls is part of the script. It seems they all have gotten into the act this season. Kristy calling Simon a “butt” cracked me up. Carly letting Simon have it with the “too harsh” comment. Brooke has really gotten brave in her interactions. So, I am pretty sure this is being encouraged as a ratings booster!

  • bambambam

I love that Elliott sort of seconded Cookie’s sneaky message-sending. In fact, I’d love it if they all started doing it so much that TPTB had to stop them from doing it. I’d love to see anything from “Hi Mom” to “Stop torturing” on palms shown to the camera. It’s so low-tech. But it’s like texting back to 20 million people.

  • Kirsten

Anyone up for making excuses for Dial Idol this week? Were they à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ again?

    a) They are not excuses. It’s called statistics. They are only sampling a small subset of the votes so there is a margin of error. It’s a volunteer sampling, so it’s even more important to consider the MOE. They attempt to model the entire voting block based on the subset. Obviously, these mathemtical models have limitations. Read their FAQ. They explain it all and even give you some nifty statistical calculations you can try at home.

    b) Nobody is claiming DialIdol is perfect. People were just trying to clarify what DialIdol was actually showing. They were just trying to be nice by explaining.

    b) Dial Idol was wrong this week.

  • TylerWV

Guess Im odd man out in opinions. I didnt think kristy deserved to go home. Shes been better, imo, the last several weeks then Brooke. I love Elliott but didnt like the song. I dont like a lot of runs, etc. in singing. I left the room to fix a snack when Mariah sang cause I can stand to see how nigh naked she gets each time she performs and don’t like her singing. End of rant. lol

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

Ryan felt so badly about Michael’s shocking elimination that he waited a whole week before playing cruel mind games again — and this time he toyed with 5 contestants who were duped instead of one. Cookie was the only performer who could safely assume he was safe and Syesha the only loser in either trio scenario.

Elliott is my all-time favorite AI contestant and seeing him was a timely reminder of the occasional good this show can produce, usually despite its manipulations to the contrary. AI gave Elliott an opportunity he almost certainly would never have otherwise and now he is offering a helping hand to his good friend Sway Penala. Next time I hope he brings his buddy Tay Tay, too, so we can see Simon’s head explode.

  • StevenD

Carly probably has a bigger fanbase then people give her credit for and having two weeks in a rw that we were afraid she going to be sent home I know I dialed like crazy and there were several times that I heard a busy signal. Also the song Without You is one of those get out and vote for me songs. It’s like “I Have Nothing”, or “Take a Look at Me Know’ they’re songs that almost demand you vote for them as long as the singer does it right. I think also another part of Carly’s votes come from people who are annoyed with the judges and think that they’ve been harder on her then the others which is something even Simon mentioned tonight.

I can’t wait to hear what she’s going to do next week as I’m a HUGE musical theater fan and own every one of Lloyd Webbers musicals. They’re pop operas that are generally 2 to 3 discs each and have a lot of great pullout theaterical type of character songs.

  • judy

    Terrie, Simon’s head exploding…that’s funny.

    Elliott is a good guy.

  • SpenserJ

I really liked tonights show, which is odd because I typically find results shows terminally annoying. But tonight, I liked, in no particular order:

    - Having Elliott back!
    - Jason’s stupid white shoes, which are so ridiculous, but just the fact that he wears them makes me know I’d like hanging out with him.
    - I’m not a Kristy Lee fan, but I admire her fight and the fact that she never gave up. Good for her and I wish her well.
    - The fact that David C. is this cool dude rocker who never looks like he’s thinking he’s too cool for the group sing. He give himself up to the cheese fully, and I love him for it.
    - I’m one who doesn’t mind the outspokeness of some of the ladies tonight. I thought they all asserted themselves with a little bit of humor. If you’re going to call out Simon on national TV, then to do it with a joking tone is definitely the way to go.
    - I thought Mariah was a fantastic mentor. She had good advice, and she gave a lot of encouragement. She seemed genuinely flattered to hear them sing her songs and really interested in their interpretations. It’s always fun to see a person who sometimes seems like a cartoon of themselves show you that they have a whole other host of levels and more depth than you gave them credit for.

I actually thought they all sounded good in the group sing – not in the way that I usually love it because it’s so bad. But, I think I may have genuinely enjoyed that. During that, I think Carly sounded better than she has all season.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I put more videos on the front page. And the ones that were out there originally are longer.

  • weelassie

Wonder if Mariah takes her glittery microphane with stand with her when she sings. Sure was sparkly. I thought she was a good mentor and I’m glad to see that she offered them advice on how to make the songs fit them more. I was hoping to see that with Dolly but I don’t think that I did. Favorite mentor of the seasons I have watched has been Barry Manilow. I’m not a barry fan but he was awesome with the contestants offering advice and key changes, etc. Would love to see him back in the future. But Mariah was surprisingly good.

  • Qzar99

Yay Elliott! He looked exhausted, but I can understand why. It was very touching when he got emotional there at the end. It makes me happy that they let him come back on the show, and he seems genuinely grateful to do so. Gotta love him.

  • primeminister

My Thoughts on the Studio Recordings:

Brook’s “Hero” is much, much better in the studio. I love the sincerity of her recording voice.

Jason’s come a long ways vocally. The studio recording of “I Don’t Wanna Cry” is absolutely fantastic. I agree with whoever used the word “earthy”–instead of being airy and light, his vocals seem especially grounded this week. And the high notes he hits starting from around 2:40? I didn’t know he was capable of belting those babies out! Now why didn’t he do that on the show?! Probably my favorite studio recording this week.

I’m a little disappointed that Archuleta didn’t sing the Hebrew parts of When You Believe. His vocals are solid, as usual, but the song comes across as an even safer choice in the studio. The Mariah/Whitney version of the song had more emotion and magic in it, I think.

DCook’s “Always Be My Baby” (along with Jason’s “I Don’t Wanna Cry”) will definitely be on repeat on my iPod this week. I love his voice and I think this ballad showcases a lovely tenderness.

  • Lisa

I do believe Jason is going to run away with the VFTW title.

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

After listening to “I Don’t Wanna Cry” again, I am impressed anew at Jason’s innate musical ability. No, he is not a belter, not a glory-noter, not a vocal technician nor a melismatist. He is blessed with great natural instincts, accurate pitch, and the ability to inhabit his songs in an emotionally intimate yet inclusive way. Over the past few weeks he has developed confidence and seems more focused on his goal. He even has his own style of phrasing and meter. I can’t think of anyone he sounds like except Jason Castro.

  • joydrop

I do believe Jason is going to run away with the VFTW title.

I’m kind of happy about that because it means more votes for him! But I feel bad for Brooke because if they pick Jason I think it will be the end of her. =(

  • weelassie

Listening to Jason’s full version-whoa wonder why he didn’t do those high notes on the show. goodness that is beautiful. didn’t know he could do that!!!

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

    David Cook for President !

Jason Castro for Minister of Peace! He’s melting hearts.

  • neonorange

I would love for David C to sing something from Phantom of the Opera. He could really knock it out of the park with a rock arrangement. Somewhere between Michael Crawford and Nightwish would be perfect.

I could see Jason singing Any Dream Will Do (Joseph) and David A singing I am the starlight (inspirational, no?).

  • neonorange

So far David C is at the top of the list for the top 7 songs with about 3 times the number of bars as the the next song. Although it’s still quite early. David A is sitting at #2, Jason #3, Brooke, Carly, and Kristy tied for #4 and Syesha at #7. Here’s the link to my imix

From Andrew Lloyd Webber’s official website:

“Following the announcement that Andrew will appear on the hit US TV programme à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ we can confirm that the episode featuring Andrew will be transmitted in the USA on FOX (Tue. 8/7c) on April 22nd. Andrew will be guiding the contestants and as they perform a selection of his songs from the set of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Phantom the Las Vegas Spectacularà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ at the Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas.”

  • Lisa

I don’t think it means they will only be singing Phantom songs, just that they will be performing from that set. Wonder if it is just the group sing or what? Maybe like Graceland in Season 5?

  • xoxoyc

    A few thoughts:

I finally got to watch David Cook’s performance from Mariah night- while it was good it wasn’t it was the blow me away performance I expected it to be from reading all the boards. I still liked Billie Jean and Hello a LOT better.

I really like Carly’s Without You recorded version- she uses some subtlty in her voice and I love that she didn’t turn the whole song into a vocal belting mess.

This week Carly or Syesha are due for the pimp spot. Carly has gone the longest now without it- she had it top 24 week. So if the producers are fair she will get it since she performed 2nd this week. But we all know the producers aren’t fair and they usually put TCO last top 6 week so I expect Archie to get it AGAIN.

It’s David Cook’s turn to go first- as he has not done so all season but again I’m not sure the producers will want to be fair with that either. Jason should also be up earlier again.

  • jersey

I agree, Lisa. I think it just means that Andrew Lloyd Webber is too busy to come to idol so idol has to go to him.

  • Margaux

ALW week — If D.Cook attempts a Michael Crawford thing with a Phantom song, show us his inner Theater Geek, it could be the “you didn’t think I could do THIS, did you?” moment he needs to be Famous For Life.

On the other hand, I would be so tickled to hear him try JC Superstar.

Brooke should do “Everything’s Alright”, and I’d like to hear Carly on “I Don’t Know How to Love Him”

I should know more of these songs than I do.

  • PrplDva

    and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d like to hear Carly on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Know How to Love Himà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

OMG -perfect song for her if she stays away from the screaming. I would love to hear that!

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

Andrew will be guiding the contestants and as they perform a selection of his songs from the set of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Phantom the Las Vegas Spectacularà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ at the Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I thought I read that on DC’s facebook fangroup last night, but I wasn’t sure I was reading correctly. It was late.

Hmmmm… I’m not sure what that means.

If D.Cook attempts a Michael Crawford thing with a Phantom song, show us his inner Theater Geek, it could be the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“you didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think I could do THIS, did you?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ moment he needs to be Famous For Life.

Gahhhh. He would be the ultimate tv boyfriend for life. I have a feeling that people are really going to underestimate him this week, but that inner theater geek is going to come out and shine. OMG, I’m getting excited! :)

  • Karen

I have never been so happy to miss all the pool points in my life. I had split mine between the 3 other girls, assuming that Miss Kryptonite would be safe.

  • jrae

The show last night was the first results show that I actually watched all the way through. With the exception of the group song and Mariah (didn’t it seem as if the song was never going to end), I enjoyed the show.

    Some random observations:
Carly must be taking some happy pills because she was all smiles and giggles.

Archie is just a goober. In an amazingly awesome cute way of course. Did anyone notice how confused he looked during the choosing the group part?

    I love me some DC!!!!!

Elliott Yamin is a class act! His performance, fantastic!

  • bambambam

I don’t suppose someone would ever have the guts to write, “Bite Me Simon” on their palm for their sing-off song, huh?

  • bean99

Even though this was a painful week for me with Michael gone, it was a big payoff with Kristy finally going. It’s probably for the best after calling Simon a butt judging by the look on his face, lol. I think she’s been prepared for this for a long time and didn’t even seem emotional or the least bit surprised about it. I did like how she sang to Simon.

Having Ryan group them and then switch people around was much more interesting when you really didn’t care who went home. I was surprised when they put Jason and DC in different groups but never thought either was going home. I don’t think this is the right top 6 since it doesn’t include MJ but of the 7 it probably is. I hope the next to go are Brooke and Syesha.

  • KrazeeK120

I really hope Jason will make it through next week. I think he’ll be going first.

That said, I really can’t see anyone but Syesha or Brooke leaving.

I need to stop analyzing the show and just watch.

  • jpfan

Finally got to see the show and thought it was the best elimination show of the season with drama and good performances.

I actually liked Mariah’s song and it went beautifully with Elliott’s comments about his Mom. The hand writing thing was bittersweet and showed that Elliott is actually watching the show. Let’s just say that when he was voted off third, even my wildest fantasies didn’t have him showing up on Idol three times in Season 7. David A actually seemed like a 17 year old kid which was sweet.

Bye Kristy, you had alot of spunk.

  • calimari

I am just so glad KLC’s finally gone. She finally started showing some personality and I’m glad she was able to go on a good performance night – her sing out was good. But she long overstayed her welcome as far as I’m concerned.
So nice to see Elliott last night. I teared up a bit just thinking about him losing his mom so recently. He looks SO different than when he first came to Idol, and he has really worked his performance style out – not so shy anymore! Idol was truly a life-changing experience for him. He was in good voice.

  • Karen

Elliott was fantastic. “Free” and “Alright” are my favorite songs on his CD. I hope Free is a single for him.

  • bean99

I thought Elliott did well and glad that they mentioned his mom. I didn’t think Mariah was all that but enjoyed seeing her mike/stand. I thought it was interesting that Simon admitted to being tough on Carly. I think he was that way with Michael also. The trouble is that people listen to what he says even if the intention is to make them better. I do think what the judges say can effect votes negatively although sometimes it gives weaker singers pity votes.

  • http://forums.delphiforums.com/fallings/start JudinNH

I thought Elliot looked fantastic. He seems to have grown into his teeth too. Maybe it’s because he’s not smiling as big to show them all. His performance was superb!

I noticed the scarf he wore and recall that Neil Diamond often wears a scarf during his performances. Perhaps it is a Hebrew thing. Maybe someone who know Hebrew traditions can give us more information.

As far as the idols are concerned, I favor the boys over the girls. I love Jason Castro but think David Cook will stay longer than Jason. It’s really a guys season this year!

  • calimari

Has Brooke had the pimp spot at all yet? If not, I think it’s her turn…

  • Little Boy Blue

Has Brooke had the pimp spot at all yet? If not, I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s her turnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Yes she has. It was the night she sang YOU GOT A FRIEND.

  • LoveU

Personally, I just couldn’t stand the way Carly acted last night. The hyper happiness, etc. Ick.

  • poporange

Elliott was thier last night from he this blog and it was nice to hear about the message about his mom. Listen to his song and it was nice I just do not like when artists do runs in thier songs and that includes him. Maybe it is his new style or “IN” in R&B pop music. I am in the minority here never thought Elliott was an underdog and his voice reminded me of Clay or Rueban so I thought he would get radio play. I was glad Kat was on the show this year she deserved it after getting the shaft from season 6 .

Kristy leaving was not a major shocker and see her in country music. I wonder if American Idol will lose the country fans and how next week will go?

  • grayhound

(first of all – thanks MJ for helping me get on – yay!)

Misc. thoughts from last night’s show:

    1. Group number was the worst of the season – were they off-key, or did it sound like that because my hearing has been permanently damaged by too many loud concerts through the years? (eta: only when they sang as an entire group – not each person’s solo, those were good).

    2. Jason – give David Cook back his shirt.

    3. Cookie – return Jason’s shirt to him immediately, and NEVER wear it again.

    4. Elliott – he has come a LONG way since his days on AI – he was so charismatic, sounded great. Really enjoyed him.

    5. Was Mariah’s song really appropriate for elimination night? (BYE, BYE??!!).

    6. Was anyone else worried about Mariah’s dress? It got shorter the longer she sang.

    7. I was a bit surprised at the group breakdown at first. I thought for a second that Jason was in the B3. Glad to see he’s still there. He looked hawt last night, but that’s because of #2 above.

Does anyone remember how they handle eliminations night when they get to the final 6? If they break them down by groups of 3, there is a 50% chance that each person will be B3. I can’t remember.

  • sciencefan

I LOVED Jason’s solo last night! I’m still trying to figure out what was so DIFFERENT about it… maybe because it wasn’t quite his style really, I guess, but BEAUTIFUL!

  • Kirsten

Has Brooke had the pimp spot at all yet? If not, I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s her turnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Everybody remaining in the competition has gone last at least once. Carly has gone the longest without being last (she was last on Top 12 girls night…Final 24). Syesha is next longest (last on Top 8 girls night). Brooke had the pimp spot last week.

Jason and David C are the only remaining contestants who have never gone first. 33% of the contestants remaining have never gone first. They should abolish going first (Monday mornings and Friday afternoons). LOL. When was the last time somebody went so deep in the competition with never going first?

Melinda was the last one last year to sing first and that was on Final 8 night. Jordin never sang first during the finals, but she did sing first during the semis. In Season 5, Chris D first went first on Final 7 night and Elliott first went first on Final 5 night. Hmmm…maybe I’ll have to figure this out for all 7 seasons.

    Something I just noticed:

    Chris D: 6-10-2-12-4-6-7-4-1
    David A: 6-10-2-12-3-8-6-7-1

    I’m sensing a pattern here.

  • calimari

Brooke had the pimp spot last week & here I am asking if she’s had it yet. You can see how well my memory is working lately! If Carly hasn’t had it since being in top 12, she should get it next week.

  • primeminister

    Thanks, Kristen, for those stats.

Maybe Archuleta will be the OMG! Shocking! Boot! at #4. We shall see.

  • cheese

    Chris D: 6-10-2-12-4-6-7-4-1
    David A: 6-10-2-12-3-8-6-7-1

Freaky! So when is Archie’s next pimp spot then?

I think Jason or David C will have to go first next week. DC has only gone early in the performance order once in the top 12, so it should be him, IMO. I hope he opens the show with an awesomely memorable “Heaven on Their Minds.”

  • sammwiz

I wonder who will sing “Memory” ……….

  • Karen

I’d say Syesha will get Memory and Carly will get I Don’t Know How to Love Him, which she would be GREAT on. Maybe Brooke could do You Must Love Me from Evita (ALW may not have written it, since it was added for the movie). The range on it is pretty small, and it’s not a belting song.

I’d sell my 8-yr-old son to hear Cookie to do All I Ask of You from Phantom.

  • Qzar99

Didn’t Jordin sing first during top 3? I thought she broke the curse.

  • nmc

    Chris D: 6-10-2-12-4-6-7-4-1
    David A: 6-10-2-12-3-8-6-7-1

Kristen, your mind with numbers is amazing. That is a VERY interesting coincidence there between ChrisD and DavidA.

  • nmc

Apparently I don’t know how to use the blockquotes button very well.

  • http://www.xanga.com/hisaki_chan707 Hisaki

MJ, you forgot about us “lambs”! ;)

Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Jordin sing first during top 3? I thought she broke the curse.

She did, yes. A whole truckload of patterns were broken last year, apparently.

Anyway, I still don’t think KLC deserved to go home (not that I ever liked Kristy, but she was definitely building up). I was waiting for the paramedics to come once Brooke got the boot, but hopefully the scare will bring her back to her senses and she can make a comeback the way KLC did. That said, I doubt she’s going to last much longer anyway. The girls all seem next in line for the boot (*trying to ignore the stupid boy-girl-boy pattern right here in hopes that Jason will dodge the freaking bullet*).

  • LaFonda

Can Brooke please be next? She came off as such a whiny bitch last night. I couldn’t stand it. And her sister must agree because why else would she schedule a wedding right in the middle of her sisters TV stint?

David A’s mom is a mail order bride. lol.
