Just adding to the above conversation, I truly think that the majority of the public who watch AI have no clue about David Cook’s brother, or even Archie’s father. Most of my friends watch faithfully, have their favorites and when I mention something I’ve heard they are completely in the dark.

Hell, they are shocked I know the songs before the performance. WE know this stuff because we choose to know it, but alot of people watch, vote a couple of times and go to the next show.

And just one more mention about DC’s song from last night, mostly because I am a true Cooktard – I’ve watched it again(!) and I love the PERFORMANCE as much as Billie Jean. I think it was another “moment” that puts David in another category far above the others.

I say this in a respectful way, knowing that some of you who are not currently citizens of Cooktardsville may disagree.

Well, another thing to keep in mind is I guarantee you that the performances sound different (usually better) at the studio. Live sound is typically more pleasing to the ear than recorded sound is, and often slightly off notes are not heard in a live setting. So the judges may or may not have the same impressions of the performances after viewing them on TV.

But, he wasnÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t praised for his vocals. He was praised for doing what he does (almost) every week – for showing his potential to be a relevant recording artist and for not boring the shit out of the audience (YMMV)

LOL. Cheese, I absolutely adore you. That is all.

Also, need to add this: I’m not talking about David being teary-eyed at the end of his performance when I say “emotion.” This performance was, as mj put it, thrilling. It was raw and passionate. And sure – maybe, if his brother hadn’t been there, he might not have had that extra motivation to go out and perform like he did. But, based on his past performances, I still think he would have.

^ I see your point. But I also think that when the judges highly praise a performance (here, with Randy’s standing ovation), the audience is also influenced by the judges’ reactions.

The thing is, I didnÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see him Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…â€œfeeling itÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ anymore than any of his other performances. Yes, he teared up afterward, but that didnÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make the performance any better for me.

I have a sneaky feeling that if the story about Adam coming to the show never came out, people might not have been so responsive to this performance. Just saying.

Well, that’s your take on it. To each their own.

I think for the most part, only the Internet lurkers (or generally, just the ones who bother to dig up all the background information the show doesn’t reveal) wouldn’t have been as responsive, but they’d have been responsive all the same. The casual audience at home make up the biggest block of viewers, though, I believe — and considering his backstory has never been revealed on the show, the casual viewers would probably have responded the same as they did, prevalent backstory or not.

Well, he’s my fave and my hope for him is top 4. I think that’s doable at this point. :biggrin_wp:

Can’t say that I agree, but I wish the news hadn’t come out about this. He doesn’t need anyone’s sympathy votes. He’s probably the strongest left in the competition (YMMV).

The reason people are putting it in the same league is because of the raw emotion and passion he was showing. Sure, it wasnÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t in the same league as some of his other performances vocally, but it was so full of feeling and he just really gave it his everything. As Sarah said (a noted 85720 posts back, but she said it all the same, lol), sometimes a performance doesnÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have to be technically perfect Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ if you pour your emotion into a performance, itÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s (usually) enough.

The thing is, I didn’t see him “feeling it” anymore than any of his other performances. Yes, he teared up afterward, but that didn’t make the performance any better for me.
