PJ, I agree– it’s a hint to both songs, and they’re Forever in Blue Jeans and September Morn.

I was thinking a lot of people were hoping not for FOREVER IN BLUE JEANS for Jason I hope he kicks butt He can’t afford to mess up

I think Forever in Blue Jeans is a great choice for Jason – it should be a much cooler song with him singing it. I can see it having a Daydream kind of vibe. I kind of loathe September Morn, though.

Yeah, FIBJ is NOT one of my favorite ND songs, but hope there is a way he can change it up. Can easily see the SM in Castro style, but the other, not so much. So desperately want him to do a fun, joyful, “Daydream”-type performance this week. I have every toe and finger crossed for tonight.

Yes, longsong, I didnt really listen to the lyrics and Jason usually picks songs for some meaning in them. So – he wanted an upbeat song that said something to him – rather than – ugh – crackling rosie . So, this could be very good./ So this is my hope for cook Play me for the slow – Holly Holy for the upbeat

And, I’ve always hated “Always Be My Baby”, and now, since Cookie turned it all “stalkerish” I loooooooove it. So….let’s hope the creative side of JC rears its beautiful head tonight.

To dispel that rumor, nobody hinted that DA is going to sing I’m a Believer. Somebody was trying to read into somebody’s facial expression to see if his guess of I’m a Believer was correct. That was all. It’s purely a guess. I don’t think he’s going to sing it.

Hate to be a cynic, but that story on MSNBC about song choice — Neil Diamond is example of what they mean. His songs are so “yesterday” and while he did well for a few decades ago he hasn’t really “endured” in the recording world.

I keep wondering if there is a “song & mentor” committee that meets at the AI offices every season and come up with songwriters, or do the songwriters agents approach AI?

I’m a little disappointed that Jason didn’t pick anything from Neil’s newer album, but oh well. I guess when it’s down the wire like this, the contestants can’t really afford to pick something that runs the risk of being completely unrecognizable.

As for Jason’s choices, I love “Forever in Blue Jeans,” but “September Morn” is a little on the bland and boring side to me. I hope he can jazz it up enough to move onto the final four — anything to get Syesha out this week.

Sumi – Yep, but I’m a teensy bit scared because it was also said that last week Jason would ROCK “Memories” and such was not the case – unless you’re devoted enough to listen to the iTunes version, which I am.

For my money these are poor choices for JC. FIBJ is in the top 10 of annoying songs ever. September Morn, I don’t know, I just don’t see this as perfect for his voice. Maybe he should have read this blog before choosing!!!!! I wish him luck ( I think he needs it!)

Well, I thought that SOTR was a HORRIBLE song choice for Jason, but it ended up probably being his 2nd best performance this season. In fact, I was pretty terrified when I heard he would be singing that.

I’m in the camp that knows virtually nil about ND, so I’m kind of interested to hear new (for me) songs.

It does sound like Jason’s 2 songs are different (one is upbeat and one is not?), so that’s good for him. I heard something about him “working the stage,” which could be fun , too.

The only week he really hit rock bottom was when he was very, very sick. He’s been good-great every other week. Let’s have a little faith in our boy, shall we?

Oh – here I go again. I am a mother of many and part of my job is keeping an eye on Idol so I have watched since day one. I have loved many a contestant and voted here and there but not until Jason Castro have I felt so compelled to get in there and vote for two hours straight. I LOVE Cook too and didnt really really get Jason until SOTR then went back and listened to all. I like his tone, I like his goofy personality and what I like most is when he sings he makes me feel good and that is what music is about also , like the quote I put up about Neil, you dont always have to be picture perfect but you do have to invoke feelings in the songs you sing and that is what Jason does for me. If I want to rock and roll (and embarass my kids) I will turn to dc or someone like him. So, if Jason is voted off before da or the girls then i think that would NOT be fair at all

This is me. I actually think Jason seems like a very sweet guy and he’s a cutie, but generally he bores me to tears. With the exception of Hallelujah and SOTR everything else did nothing for me. I’m a Believer should be a great choice for David A. It’s been too long since he’s done anything upbeat and it’s a lighthearted song.

I listened to several of the ND songs I wasn’t familiar with on youtube and most of them bored me. :s I hope it’s just first impression and that the idols surprise and entertain me later.

On IDF, Tyson is a pretty reliable semi-spoiler for Syesha. He will give a little away, but not too much. However, if someone is completely off, he will dispute it. He has not said anything about those four song choice combinations, but he did tell someone they “heard wrong” when they said they thought she would sing “Red Red Wine” and “Play Me”.

I am afraid that anyone who does “i’m a believer”, will be automatically identified with Shrek. Especially David A. , because of his age. So, in my opinion, he should steer clear of that one, especially when he can basically do well with whatever song he chooses, so just to be safe, i’d pick another and not choose one that may have Simon handing him another Disneyland comparison.

Now the IDF spoilers for Archie appear to be incorrect. One of the songs is likely correct. I really can’t stand to spend any time on the DA board to sort it out, but you might want to modify your post out front, mj.

David A picked two good songs. I really hate FIBJ and don’t like the ones rumored for Cook either. Of course, their versions may be very good, I have no idea. I’m surprised that Jason seems to have more support that David Cook here. He’s a cute kid but seeing him in the finale wouldn’t really do much for the credibility of the show as a “singing competition.” Although having Taylor and Blake make it that far probably put the nail in that coffin forever.

Actually, if you read through the David A thread at IDF, both choices are really unclear…

I hope they are wrong MJ…they are the worst two songs David A. could sing and quite frankly America is more suited for David Cook’s voice. Whoever sings that song will surely annoy the anti-immigration people in this country. When the song was released immigration wasn’t a hot button issue like it is now.

As far as I’m A Believer goes…if he does that he will need to run away from the flailing hands in the “mosh pit”. Remember the last time he sung an uptempo song to the people in the pit- You’re The Voice…and Simon called it a theme park performance?

This could turn out to garner a Kareokee comment from Simon…if anything he should go sing in back of the judges and grab Paula’s hand when he sings the chorus.

That just is not a song lyrically I see David singing…he has never had a gf and doesn’t want one now…it will be as believable as David hernandez singing “I Saw Her Standing There”

I love I’m A Believer, one of my favorite ND songs. Plus it’s an uptempo song which David A needs to do.It’s an insanely GP love song at best. If he can’t sing a song like that, I hope he doesn’t win. Coming to America is about all the past immigrants who came to America. I can’t imagine anyone getting angry at it but who knows. Well, considering I have three horses in this race (Brooke, Jason, and Cookie), I’m not sure which one to check in on tonight. “The Way You Look Tonight” or “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon” would be awesome for David. David could sing the diarrhea song and it would still sound great and he’d still look great singing it. No matter what he sings, all types of people will want to buy his music because he makes it HIS music. You remember his songs! Also, when he sings some of the most popular songs by other artists, at first you may recognize the song, but it may take you a sec to remember who the original artist was. The fact that he can made me forget who “Hello” and “Billie Jean” were recorded by for the first few seconds is amazing, because both songs are great hits by great artists.

“Morning Has Broken” would be a great song for Jason to do. No matter what Jason sings, it will sound just like the other songs he’s sung. He’s a sweetie and his voice is easy on the ears, but I think he’d be the perfect person for a beach bar or cruise ship. I’d only want to hear him when I was in a mellow mood.

“Moon River” would fit Lil David A. He has an AWESOME voice and he’s a cutie, but he is the perfect guy for a Las Vegas club, not a huge concert. Honestly, do you see women AND men of all ages buying tix to his concerts? I can see him making a lot of money entertaining older women in Las Vegas clubs just like ayne Newton. He’s definitely a Michael Bolton type.

As for Brooke, it doesn’t matter what she sings because she’ll probably forget the words because she has problems paying attention to what she’s doing. I wish she’d listen to the judges when they talk to her instead of looking all over the place. She’s a nice girl, but she really needs to focus.

Syesha will probably do the most popular songs Neil Diamond has ever done. She really needs to put some feeling in her songs. I feel like the only thing going through her head while she’s performing is, “go stand here, don’t forget this line, cross your arm here, put your hand up here, hold the note for 1,2,3..”. She’s gotta start singing and stop over-thinking. She would be great for broadway.

I think Brooke and Jason have good opportunities to shine, and like many am hoping to see David C pick up his gee-tar again tonight. I’d still like to see David A sing Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show. “Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies…” As if! Seriously, there’s a lot to choose from in the Diamond Catalog and I think he will do well. I think Syesha will be challenged to find something that suits her. “Morning Has Broken” has been recorded by many different people. It’s actually an old Christian hymn. The lyrics were written in 1922 and the tune is an old Scottish Gaelic melody. Cat Stevens recorded an acoustic version that was very popular, but other artists have also popularized it in other times. I always thought John Denver wrote it because he was always the person I heard singing it.

I’ve never heard of them either Cheese. Color me confused if this is true…………….

I don’t think there’s any way 19E are letting him go, even if he goes home tomorrow (which – NO NO NO!). If he doesn’t win, all that means is less promotion for his album, a later release date, and possibly downplaying as far as marketing goes, so he won’t overshadow the GoldenBoy.
So no, I don’t see any way in which not winning is his best option. Winning is always the best option if you want commercial success.

I actually like Sweet Caroline, I think it’s a super fun song, I was just surprised that Archie’s militant daddy let him sing it. It was a good choice from the standpoint of its tempo and popularity.

I’m listening to a clip of I’m Alive as I write this…and the good thing about it is that it’s a bit peppy and upbeat so you know that he’s really going to switch it up.

For all of you concerned about him singing an unknown song, didn’t Bo Bice do that a cappella performance with an unknown song? At least I had no clue what that song was. However, people still remember that performance…they don’t talk about the song, they talk about Bo. Fantasia sang Summertime, another song that perhaps a lot of younger people don’t know, yet it’s still considered an incredible idol performance. Hell, I never heard of “Little Sparrow” before he sang it, but I still downloaded DC’s performance of it and now I think it’s a great song. So I’m not going to stress about song choice, and neither should all of you.

PJ, sciencefan, sumidol, and others – I’ll be there for the whole 2 hours and 5 minutes voting for Jason!

OMG! I have been wanting Jason to sing, “Forever in Blue Jeans”! I think he will have a very special night with September Morn. Oh, I see David and Brooke are coming out of the ballad mold. Yeah, I always here inadequate stuff about him–even “I Don’t Wanna Cry” from Mariah week, which was AMAZZZZZZZZZING (though outdone by Cookie). So I’ll wait for the judges.

I agree. He should be going first this week, in the spirit of fairness, and in all honesty, it really irks me that he’s not.
