Season 7 Top 4 Spoilers!

I think Mr. Tamborine Man is a great choice but not sure about the other one. It’s probably my least favorite Eric Clapton song but haven’t heard Marley’s version so who knows?

Agreed. Mr. Tambourine Man is a great choice. The other? Jason deserves to be shot for. Gawsh. I get that terrible audition stuck in my head whenever I hear this song.

ETA: Fine, now that I think over it, Marley and Dylan are the two artists I would have liked Jason to try on Idol. I hope he does it in that order. Still can’t get over that terrible audition though. And I’m guessing the studio version will be Mr. Tambourine Man?

Can’t stand I SHOT THE SHERIFF but I hope he proves me wrong. I hate that song and I don’t think anybody could make me like it even Jason.

I don’t hate the idea of Jason singing “I Shot the Sheriff”. He probably picked it because he’s sung it before and feels passionately about it. I’m taking a wait and see attitude.

I about croaked when heard that he was going to sing SOTR..thinking how horrible that would be. wasn’t.

I think he tried to recapture that Hallelujah moment with Memory and September Morn. Didn’t work too well, imo.

My wish for him is Top 3. But if that doesn’t work out, Mr. Tambourine Man would be a great sing-out song. I’m pleased. :)

I remember 2 years ago, when Elliott’s fans learned that he was going to sing Elvis Presley’s Trouble on Final 4 night, some of us were aghast. We thought he’d never pull it off. But, he sang the heck out of that song and launched himself into the final 3.

I’m not gonna worry about Jason’s choices. I have a lot of hope that he’s highly motivated this week, and I know he’s talented enough to pull it off.

I know Jason will do great – I am a little worried about Simon’s comments based on the lyrics of Tambourine Man. I won’t write it out but if Paula already has her judging done, I think Simon’s will be too and predictable.

I don’t like ISTS but I love Mr. Tambourine Man. It’s a pretty song and sort of haunting.

If it turns out “Mr Tambourine Man” was the only Dylan song to get cleared, then I’m soooo happy Jason had the sense to jump on it. It shows me he wants to be in this thing ’til the end.

I am pretty sure it wouldn’t have mattered what he chose, I’d be nervous about tonight, but I am a little more-so than I could have been. Hopefully he’s super into the songs and able to do his thing with them to the point of kicking some behind tonight. I do have to say, I am ok if he saves the drums for the tour though…. As with those that remember the I Shot the sherriff audition I remember the guy that played the drums and sang during Hollywood week. I think the effort should be put into his meaningful vocals and not his drumming.

Also, I think he partially gets the ‘stoner vibe’ from his looks, which reflects his personality, which would be reflected in his song choices.

UGH … absolutely gagging and so hoping these spoilers are wrong for Jason. Tamborine Man … still sick of it from the day and DYLAN has so many other more interesting selections … that song is dreary and old fashioned. My ipod is well stocked with DYLAN and almost every tune stands the test of time … Hurricane, Subterranean Homesick Blues, Positively 4th Street, I Want U, etc … the list is LONG. AND … who the heck in their right mind would pick ISTS … mundane, repetitive, boring and just plain ridiculous. Hard to be optimistic considering these selections. I think that Jason has gobs of potential but he needs some guidance.

Think he could change the words to ISTS to I shot Randy??? Please, please, pretty please. I’m hoping this spoiler isn’t true. I do like MTM, and, hope he saves it for his last song. I think Jason’s young age precludes him from choosing the best songs for him. He just as not been exposed to that much at age 21. He needs another 5 more years of music listening to expand his repertoire.

“Mr. Tambourine Man” seems to be up Jason Castros alley a slow song might make it more up to date..The other song not to sure about “Who Shot The Sheriff” Jason Castro has a good chance of making it to the finale 3 but it depends on is preformances and the others.IMO Puala gate maybe a factor in him making it which is not a good thing.

Thanks for posting the spoilers. I like Clapton’s ISTS much more than Marley’s. I like how Clapton infuses a little bit of funk in his version. I think Jason will be able to do something fun with this song. I hate to admit it, but I have never heard the second song. Here is to hoping Jason rocks it out tonight.

I’m shocked at all the hatred for “I Shot the Sheriff”. It’s not a bad song in the right hands. I think Jason can do it justice. Call me crazy. “Mr Tamborine Man” too. The only problem is they might be too similiar in tempo and feel, depending on how he performs them.

As far as the resemblence to Dylan (looks not style) – I dont see it. I think Jasons face is beautiful and his sound unique, with Cook his voice and his style create the illusion of Hot to me but really looking at this face I dont see beautiful like I do in Brad Pitt.

Actually, I think he should have chosen ANY other song on the list. I located Eric’s version which is slightly different than Marley’s. This would not offens, but maybe there’s something else going on in Jason’s mind?

Even though ISTS isn’t about killing a law enforcement agent, some people will believe that’s what Jason is singing about. Not everyone will assume there’s a different meaning or actually look up the true meaning. I’m sure some people will have a field day with this one. There may be some Ice-T comparisons. If he’s smart, he’ll make sure and mention something about the real meaning.

I could see Mr. Tambourine Man going either way. It’s a pretty song that could be a nice moment or could be deemed boring by the judges.

I think ISTS is an awful song. While I can understand why Jason might be attracted to the explanation of the lyrics that Marley provided, I doubt very much that many AI listeners/voters will be familiar with that take on the song. The song itself is boring and repetitive. Jason is going to have to really work to make it something that people enjoy.

As far as the EW article, that was taken a bit out of context. Jessica Shaw wrote that hoping it would kick him in the butt. Idoltry has an interview with her and Michael Slezak. She said he “tried to back peddle.” Which means he explained it, and, she wasn’t going to change what she wrote.

Last week he had an epiphany about what impresses the judges, i.e. songs that are familiar to Jason and/or fresh takes on familiar songs. How delicious that Jason found such a song that stokes his mojo while skewering the idiots in charge!

You know, I’ve never been worried or nervous about what he’s going to sing. He hasn’t disappointed me yet. I think he’ll do great tonight. I have no doubts about it.

no I didn’t and I enjoyed his vocal that week…it was smooth, nice and it really showed off his talent as a vocalist..

Bottom line for me – if Jason brings it tonight and gives it his all, I’ll vote like there’s no tomorrow. If he’s just mailing it in, then I’ll let the chips fall where they may and see what happens. I hope it’s the former.

We desperately need some spoilers for the others so we can spread this obsession around. LOL

I am curious. Why is it that it is just Jason’s songs that are ‘spoiled’ every week. How come no one else’s songs are known? I think this is bogus. Not blaming you MJ. I just find it curious that only his songs get out so early in the day and are the ‘spoilers’. I would sure like an explanation why ALL the other contestants are able to keep their songs secret all day.

Someone asks below if I think the TPTB are spoiling it. I just don’t know but I find it odd that that person is easily able to find out Jason’s songs every single week yet no one else’s songs. We never know about them until TMZ posts them late in the day.

And I don’t think he meant it as a complaint against DC’s fanbase, but as a commentary on the judges; Jason has been told he needs to do something different because he stays too close to his image, yet they have never said that to DC. Just kind of a double standard on their part.

Actually prefer the Byrds’ version of ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ because I bought that Byrds’ album when it came out , and it was a song when first released on AM radio in 1965 forever changed the face of rock and roll.(i.e. the jangly guitars).

In fact the Byrds’ cover of ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ and the Turtles’ cover of ‘It Ain’t Me Babe” helped to further propel Dylan into the public consciousness.

But the real issue here is Jason Castro and his version of ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ which I think will totally work because there is a real similarity btwn his voice and that of Roger McGuinn.

Not that enthused about ‘I Shot the Sheriff.’ Would have preferred ‘Take It Easy,’ a lyric that says everything you want to know about Jason Castro.

I like Marley’s interpretations of the lyrics of ISTS and it certainly FITS the situation. That said … maybe the songs can be salvaged by Jason’s musical interpretation of them but I just prefer he picks songs that I enjoy since they are going to end up in my library … haha. So I’ll hold my breath while cringing and pray alot (lol) just like I did for Elliott … though Elliott had a more well-rounded knowledge of music (current and classic). On another subject … DYLAN to me is a perfect example of a brilliant and engaging artist without a great voice … Tom Petty is another. ‘Breakdown’ is one of my all time fave songs. Both have them have a gritty and raw quality in their vocals that I find appealing.

Idolbeat – I KNOW that you and I would be soooo happy to see that!

To those in the DC vs. Jason – who doesn’t vary it up? discussion… perhaps the issue is more about who varies songs from the ways they were originally done/written than who varies from his or her own unique style. DC and Jason both sing in a pretty consistent style. Jason often chooses songs that were originally performed in his specific-preferred style, while DC chooses songs that weren’t and changes them up drastically (or finds a cover which does so). It’s part of the whole “make the song your own” thing. The week Jason got the most cred was the SOTR week, where you heard a version of SOTR that was very different from the norm.

I love both contestants and applaud them for knowing who they are in this competition. I’d take these two in the final over the other two any day!

I’m not getting the hate for ISTS either. Maybe it’s because I didn’t see the bad audition. It’s certanly not Clapton’s best song but it’s Clapton for pete’s sake! LOL. I think Jason probably chose these songs because they are one’s he is comfortable with and that he has sung before. I agree with the poster above that Jason seemed to have a moment of realization last week about what was working for him and what wasn’t. And I don’t think that ISTS is going to make any one react as if he was singing “Cop Killer”. JMO

Helloooo!?!?…ISTS is very simply about justice & redemption. Being judged by the way you look. Things not being as they appear – people/facts/tv shows. Jason seems to be all about the message – doesn’t that make it a wise choice? I wonder who his Mr. Brown is? TPTB?

Ok, so, I still hate ISTS as a song choice for anyone on Idol, but! after listening to the different versions of it, if Jason can actually pull it off and do well? He’s a frickin’ genius. It has a good beat, he’s familiar with it, and like it or love it, most of us know the song.

I agree, Jersey. As much as I can’t muster up love for ISTS, there is a reason why this song is iconic and well known. Jason went with 2 well-known songs–if he pulls it off, I’ll be speechless.

I still TUBE this occasionally, just for the laugh and oh-no-he-didn’t effect. That’s the first thing I thought of when I heard of the song choice.

I am loving both of these choices and I have 100% faith in Jason that he will pull them both off while simultaneously flicking off TPTB:)

I am old enough to remember both versions of ISTS and I still loathe both. It’s just too repetitive and annoying for *me*. Wish Jason well with it though. I am looking forward to his MTM.

I had both of these songs on my list of possible choices for Jason, but they were down near the bottom. I think if he goes with the Marley and Dylan versions, he’ll be fine.

LOL caro. I know a lot of people are saying that “ISTS” is very repetitive, but remember, they only have 1 minute 30 seconds to perform the song. Jason will have time for one verse and one chorus, maybe a second verse if he rushes it. I don’t think it will come off as repetitive. On the plus side, it’s a catchy song! I’ve had it stuck in my head since I found out Jason was singing it.

Like tina, the only version of ISTS that I have in my head is Marley. Although it is a repetitive song, and definitely not my favorite Marley song, it does have a lot of rhythm and spunk. Hmm, I don’t think there’s anything but rumors for DC so far. The semi-spoiler said neither song is ballad-y, so that would rule out House of the Rising Sun, no? There’s also an “All Along the Watchtower” rumor, but I can’t figure out where it came from.

I hate ISTS. Ewwwwww BUT, I have faith that if anyone can do it and make me like it, its Jason. I dont know what it is about this kid but I cant let go of him. Its like I have seen a glimpse of what he can do, he just has a “feel good” kind of voice and its not garden variety either. There is, for me, a profoundness in his voice.

Aww, I love Norah Jones’s version. I saw it in a movie once and it was really sweet. It may be her voice that does it for me, though…and the emotion she puts into it. I don’t know if Archie can give it the same treatment, he’s not so much for the true emotion.

Maybe I am being naive, but I really don’t think we have anything to worry about, with the ISTS song. I highly doubt that America is going to be sitting there, upset and concerned thinking that this boy is condoning, “shooting the sheriff”, or gun violence, or whatever….I mean, he didn’t write the song and is clearly not a hostile individual, ya know.

If anything, i’m more concerned that people will find it boring. That being said, however, I really think that Jason probably knows what he’s doing. Luckily, he’ll only get to do a minute and thirty seconds of it, so it can’t get too repetitive, for once the shortened song may be a good thing!

I’m interested to see what Jason does with his choices, whether it’s “songs he knows” or “songs he can make his own” – on par with what he said on last week’s result show.

I think Archie or Syesha is going to go and the reason I think that is because I want to think that.

Why am I so certain that Syesha will sing Aretha? She auditioned with “Think” and almost killed me with that screeching “freedom” part, and then when she was on “The One”, she sang “Chain of Fools” (I believe). If she finds a lesser-known diva to emulate, she should be fine.

MJ, I have a queasy feeling that you are right and that it could be Cookie. Who is voting for Syesha anyway? She has stirred little interest on the internet. Is the South voting for her? The South has produced more Idols than any other region and they haven’t had much representation in the past two seasons.

If Texas turns out to vote for Jason, he will still be around for another week. ArchuD2 has got a political machine whipping the votes for him. It could be really close.

She might as well be. Tina Turner ain’t no joke, either. Sorry for the grammar, but hey…!

One Idol got good reviews for singing Tina, and that was Melinda.

Also, there’s that fantabulous performance by Trenyce in my mind that won’t…go…away.

“Proud Mary” will not be easy for Syesha to pull off, if true.

That was actually one of the songs I had picked for Syesha. Upbeat, fun song, no Aretha so far, shows off her personality…she is keeping with what has been working for her. I am not a fan, but I give her props. Regardless of where I want her to end up, she seems to be fighting for this thing.

I am slowly but surely starting to freak out for DCook. Happens every single week. I love not knowing what he is singing, but I hate it at the same time.

Syesha’s fans will probably love “Proud Mary.”

Syesha will go all screechy on Proud Mary. She doesn’t have the depth to handle that.

It’s ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME night, how they could even allow this Archuleta punk to sing pop ballads is beyond my comprehension.

On the other hand, Archuleta may be singing all ballads because of his vocal chord paralysis and the slow tempo allows him to adjust his breathing and get out the right note.

But still, I don’t understand the Archuleta hype anyway. He ALWAYS sounds the same: Really Good Karaoke Hell, but still Karaoke Hell. Also, hasn’t anyone noticed how he’s been gaining more weight every single week. He looks like a stuffed sausage in the clothes he wears on stage which are obviously meant for a different body type. I would be surprised if the kid could do one push-up. If he was walking down the street no teenage girl would look twice at him for fear of losing their lunch (not that that would be a bad thing for most American kids these days). …And, don’t get me started on how bad Castro’s dreadlocks must smell.

Cook is in a different league from all the others. He will be the most successful of the top four no matter where he finishes. It even might be better for him to lose the competition because he will be able to negotiate a record contract rather than be locked into one.

If heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s up for the pimp spot tonight, he could stick around.

Oh, I have almost no doubt that he will stick around, but here’s to wishful thinking. Same thing with Cook. They both already have record contracts just waiting for them, I am sure. As they should, they are both great. But alas, I always love the underdog and Jason has sufficiently stolen my heart, this season.

I know I’m not the only one but, heres my two cents. I am tired of Archie, I just don’t find him musically interesting. I find the judges comments on his performance, intolerable. I thought he was fabulous at the beginning of the season and even predicted him as the winner in the Fanpool. He is boring and i find his innocense disingenuous I just can’t deal with the puppy love for him anymore, I just can’t. Please go away.

I too have been seduced by Cook and according to the official AI site, many many Soul Patrollers are now Cook patrollers. He is like a drug. Cannot get enough of his voice.

I’ve become totally jaded where this show is concerned. I think the judges have their script down at this point. They’re gonna say what they’re gonna say regardless of performance. I think you’d have to be crazy off the charts good/bad for them to veer from their charted course.

That said I’m voting my fingers off for Castro. I’ve got my script down too.

I love Syesha’s second song choice! I was hoping she would sing it, but figured she wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation of singing Aretha or Dinah Washington or another diva song. I think she could have “the best vocal of tha night dawg” on it based on what the others are singing.

Idol forums says she is doing a very dramatic/broadway style performance of it- like Fantasia’s summertime.

Jason is predictable this week. The judges will say it’s too predictable.

The judges are going to wish David C picked a second song that was more smooth and ballady rather than two rockish songs.
