Yes, Jason was the shining star and I also feel the magic is gone. What a refreshing element he added to the show. He was the reason I watched and voted for two hours. It is very important for people to remmeber his fans ranged in age from 5 years to 88 years old. Besides myself, I met at least 10 other Grandmas. The top demographics on his threads was 41-50 years old. Not tweens as most often quoted.

I am done voting, probably forever. I will watch but will be disappointed if Randy isn't replaced. Don't TPTB realize what an awful judge he is?

Jason has been giving some good interviews. I miss him already and did suggest Bob Dylan be invited to sing with Jason at the finale. His future will be up to him. I expect a guest performance somewhere, maybe a sit-com?

I don't get this slacker thing about Jason. I just think he's a mellow, fun kind of guy who just didn't take to the AI craziness. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

MJ, I gotta tell you - this was your best recap ever! loved this......."Ryan asks Syesha about why she was so emotional the night before. Not content with merely mentioning the civil rights movement, sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s got to throw in the current political election as well! à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s 2008, we might have the first female president and the first black presidentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Thank you Miss America! Now STFU."

Just reading through the last few pages, and here are a few comments..

I think Castro was majoring in construction science at A&M. Would require some math and science ability, and even getting into A&M would require decent grades and SAT scores, so he is not dummy.

I have always thought David A acts/speaks younger than he is. He reminds me of my 12 year old nephew and his friends.

I think Castro does fine in the interviews. It is just in "on the spot" question situations that he has trouble coming up with a clear, well thought answer. Some people are good at that sort of thing, others not so much. He'll get better at it the more he has to do it.

A lot of musicians are "slackers". That is why they are not doing 9 to 5 jobs like us non-slackers. I don't know that you can brand someone a slacker based on 3 weeks in time after weeks of intense pressure. I think being able to create a marketable record is more important in the decision on whether to sign someone or not.

I don't think Jason quit at all I just think his inexperience caught up with him and he got overwhelmed. It's amazing that he only started singing recently and made it to #4 on Idol. He should be very proud of himself.

I agree with MJ that some of the press are sore that Jason advanced further than Carly in the competition. I'm sure, like Simon, they attribute it to his looks but as someone who spent time voting for Jason I can tell you there's a lot more to it than that. Carly is a great vocalist but I enjoyed Jason's performances more than I did her performances. I love the tone of Jason's voice and his mellow sound. He was just so easy and comfortable to listen to. He was always himself out there and just did his thing and let things happen the way they were going to happen. I like that kind of person so it was pretty easy for me to be attracted to his style. He's unique and he definitely has a lot of talent. Idol was lucky to find him.

*ahem!* Speaking as a Mormon here (not currently practising but raised as one), yes we weren't raised around alcohol and all sorts of sex and drugs, but David A's Dad's issues have more to do with just himself than Mormonisn. Just sayin'.

No time to read whole comments so sorry if points already been made but was a little annoyed that they felt they had to clarify/sorta apologize/explain making Seyesha cry but it was ok to go on and on in bashing Jason, with no soothing that at all.

David behaves like a teenager who had a very sheltered childhood. Maybe daddy locks him up in a cage between singing sessions.

David A. is a Mormon kid, and while there's some diversity within that community often the kids are quite sheltered growing up and kept strictly away from liquor, pre-marital sex, recreational drugs, etc. The whole hedonistic Hollywood scene must be really strange to him.

If his family is strict in their adherence to the church precepts, David will probably be sent out on an evangelical mission abroad when he gets a little older, like many of his peers. Not to be cynical, but it's hard to imagine that happening (for long anyway) if he's pulling in the big bucks headlining at Disney World or something.....

I am still trying to figure out why someone with an Austin attitude ended up in College Station??????

Jason, even though I bleed burnt orange, I will say this one time just for you:
GIG 'EM, buddy! (shhhh.... don't tell anyone I said that!)

I hope you go back and get your degree, then pursue your dreams. :smile2_ee:

My opinion? The boy was a joy - maybe not the most focused performer, maybe not the strongest singer, but dayum, he was a joy to watch. And joy is something we cannot take for granted.... ever.

"Who would sign someone who comes across as a slacker?"

well, it is the music business... where amy winehouse still has a deal, to name but one example. commercial viability counts for a lot.

I think that given a little schooling that Jason could do just fine with interviews. Some folks have a natural talent for it, others need a little teaching/coaching along the way. Jason strikes me as one that if given a bit of time he could do just fine at handling interviews.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not willing to call Jason a quitter, or say that he gave up. I think sometimes his manner of speaking, and his humorous nature might give the impression that he just doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t give a crap - but I do not for a minute believe that to be true.

What I can say about him is that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a fine young man, with a good attitude who handled a public failure of a magnitude I will never know with a truckload of class.

Spense, I wish I was as confident as you are. Now I don't think Jason's going to make an album because of the whole "he's so relieved he was voted off/he couldn't handle the pressure/he gave up!" crap that every interviewer is throwing at him right now. His answers (at least the delivery of them) aren't very convincing either. Who would sign someone who comes across as a slacker?

I don't know why I'm so irked. Or unreasonably pissed. Or worried sick. Gah.

Maybe I'm irrational after only getting 6 hours of sleep in the last 72 hours. My head hurts.
