Season 7 Finale Spoilers

I’m not looking forward to the “dead performers.” Why would they do that again? I thought everyone was creeped out by the Elvis “duet.”

The duets should be interesting.

George Michael is o.k. But IMO not the biggest star in the world!

Jason apparently gets a solo. I don’t know if it’s just part of a medley, though.

Paula Abdul will debut a song from her upcoming album, and the Top 12 will also be performing alongside Paula for a special group number.

This will be deliciously craptastic….. and Randy will call it a molten hot lava bomb.

Mariah is a true diva, and I don’t think she takes well to sharing the spotlight. I predict a Mary J. Blige/Elliott moment here. She’ll do vocal gymnastics all over the place while trying to push DC to the back of the stage. Okay, maybe not, perhaps she’s grown a little (wait – marrying a guy you’ve only dated for a month isn’t a sign of maturity – so scratch that). But, the good news is – nothing could be worse than Tony Braxton trying to hoochify Taylor’s somber song.

The reason why America didn’t voted as the judges said is because they have witness the progression of raw talent to a professional artist, that is reality TV at your best, and to see that artist thrown under the bus is just nonsense.

The boy is talented, but he didn’t grow as an artist, he has perfect vocals, but perfect vocals is subjective to the target audience.

AI’s tweeny audience rating is down.

The viewers who watched the finale are those who have endeared themselves to cook because of his past performances.

There are past AI viewers that say they only watch the finale because of David Cook.

Personally, I really don’t care who wins initially, as even from the start it was evident that David Archuleta is TCO.

But suddenly out of nowhere, there is this raw talent that developed and became the artist you never expected will develop and come from this talent contest that has been predictable since the start.

Also, I guess the added factor that they can use instruments change the whole AI game, it’s not only the vocals, but the over all talent as a musician: song arrangement, performance, voice, playing instruments, and overall knowledge on music, which David Cook proves he has, and no other contestant did.

The Music Landscape has changed, anybody can record an album and become a superstar because of the Internet or a TV Show, naturally AI should adapt to this, and any other aspiring artist should aspire to become this.

David Cook fits the bill, and the the whole world witnessed this in the past three months.

That is the reason that David Cook earned and win American Idol, even if he was thrown under the bus by these “judges.”

It is not because America hated the boy, it’s because David Cook change the rules of the game, and America understood that.

The finale will be a songfest, I’m looking forward to the ABMB duet, whether David Cook and Mariah’s vocals will blend.

I have a hard time believing that Yoko would okay the use of John’s image & footage for such a creepy cheesefest. I’m also doubtful that Paul would do it. He’s always honored the memory of his former partner, and I can’t imagine him shitting on it for the likes of AI. I can’t imagine watching this and not finding it wrong on a lot of levels. Maybe there is a way such a thing could be tastefully done – but I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Especially if Celine/Elvis is any indication.

So, George Michael is the greatest performer in the world according to Nigel. Oookay.

I’m nervously anticipating the Mariah/DC duet. That could either be fabulous or a trainwreck. Obviously, I’m hoping for the former.

I agree. I don’t see that happening. Paul respects John and he’d have to know that John/George fans would be outraged by this. Yoko wouldn’t buy into it either.

I can’t even imagine where they would find footage to do this. They would need to find film of George and John performing without the other two (unless you lifted out Paul and Ringo and had them mime their previous actions).

I hate these Duets with the Dead. You are turning them into puppets. That’s gross. Stop it, Nigel. Surely, there are enough live stars in the world that you can leave the dead ones to rest in peace.

Thanks RollTide. I’m looking forward to seeing how their two different styles blend. I saw a post on the AI forums (can’t find it now) that said they’d “heard” that DA/DC would duet on OneRepublic’s “Apologize”. I love that song. That would be interesting to see.

Any chance that Whitney could be the so-called “greatest performer in the world”? It would make sense to trot her out given the Clive connection and the thousands of times her songs have been sung on Idol.

Who knows…the “Dead Elvis” thing may not involve dead people. It may just be putting a bunch of people from different places in one video.

If Archie wins why would the headlines be about Cook? And even if you’re not a fan of Archie, after last night I doubt that we’ll see Cookie blow him off the stage in a duet. If you look at the history of Hallelujah, you will see that the whole thing is really a hard thing to pin down. Mr Cohen kept adding parts for different performances. Jeff Buckley’s version was not even close to the whole thing. I would like to here Jason sing all of Buckley’s version, but I wouldn’t count on it.

However, hearing Hallelujah again is well worth it.

Personally as odd of a combination as Dolly and Syesha are I think that a Brooke/ALW duet would actually be wonderful. Andrew really did adore Brooke and he did seem to bring out a spark in her. Of course, it quickly went away when she went on stage…

An interesting thing I learned about Nigel yesterday that gave me some respect for what he does – and is doing tonight – he used to produce variety shows for the Queen. So I guess that’s where he got his sense of showmanship from – or at least one of the places. In a way, the finale is kind of like a big variety show production.

Except for the fact that it’s being put together by a guy with British tastes, I’m expecting to enjoy tonight’s show.

I feel sad for mj because she said she was hoping Jason would never do that song again. There are probably some others who feel that way, too, but I am looking forward to it. I hope he is able to capture the magic again. Since he has so many times referred to his need to fall in love with a song, I think we can safely assume he will put his heart and soul into it again.

And I bet you a million bucks that he will get the last note right this time in Hallelujah, that was something he said a lot in interviews, that he would have loved that performance the best if he had only gotten the last note right. So, I will be happy tonight with at least three of the performances tonight – Cook ABMB – Jason Hallelujah and Downy, Black and Stiller

Yep – The Royal Variety Performance is an insitution in the UK. I remember watching it as a child. Actually, last year the winner of Britain’s Got Talent appeared on the show. I would not be at all surprised to see an Idol appear at some point, either upon conquering the UK or while trying to do so. IGB and by the sounds of it the finale pretty closely match any Royal Variety Performance I’ve seen. I always enjoyed the Royal Variety Performance so hopefully I’ll enjoy the AI finale.

Robert Downey is playing a stuffy actor who undergoes an operation to become black actor, in the movie within a movie spoof “Tropic Thunder” (also with Ben Stiller and Jack Black). It will be coming out this summer.

Maybe this has been mentioned, but on the Kiss clip did anyone hear Archie say either “he’s always bossing me or he’s always bossing us around”? He says it, jokingly, when Nigel is talking about Cookie suggesting the duet song be changed to My Hero.

Thinking about these possible guests, and all the mentors they have on these shows and the themes….I recall in S5 there was talk that an Elvis theme was unfair to Kat. And that Queen theme was unfair to the girls. By the same token Mariah could be unfair to the guys (altho they really did well). You know who I would like to see as a mentor/theme next year who put out great music and has both male and female leads? Fleetwood Mac. That just now occurred to me. Sorry – it didn’t fit in the headline thread or really in this one, but I hope they think of that for next year. Heck – I wouldn’t mind them for a guest on the show tonight.
I’ll also add that Homeward Bound could be a great boot song for next year! LOL!

…..totally still sort of creeped out by this whole thing, seeing as they are kinda signing someone up for something that they have no control over, you know….being DEAD and all. It’s really kinda sad they can’t get Alicia Keyes or somebody Syesha really does list as an idol. I don’t know whether to be excited or to dread Jason doing Hallelujah….. by favorite performance by anyone this season. I am like MJ – I was sort of hoping he would never do the song again and leave me with the memory of that Top 16 night performance, which was magical. I hope he knocks it out of the park, and hope he gets to do a longer version of it. I do see it as a positive that the producers are having him reprise it; obviously they have to admit it was one of THE moments of Season 7. And interesting that they are giving him a solo all by himself, but sort of makes sense since the other choice would be Rainbow, and he can’t duet with Brutha Iz either.

On another note, aren’t the iTunes downloads supposed to not be available after tonight? You would at least leave the ones being sung tonight available for a while to milk them for all they are worth.

Well, that might count as a win for Simon, but it’s hardly the best press for Cookie. Simon is essentially saying that Cookie won because I said the other guy was so much better. I mean, you still get to be American Idol, but you would be known as the guy who won by being called bad. Hopefully, the press would be nicer than that.

Before I get a warning from MJ, I’ll switch topics to the subject at hand. Just watched a version of Tush with Kid Rock and ZZ Top and it was a “hot lava bomb”. The crowd was going crazy!!! So keeping my fingers crossed that tonight’s version has potential to be great TV.

It was hurtful to both contestants.
Neither David deserved to be treated this way.

But if you pay attention to the comments last night, Cookie got pretty good ones, just not OTT like Archie. Cook never got the “you were out of your league” aka. The Castro edit. He was never told that he sounded poorly. The only thing he was called on was song choice. That was it.

It’s not like Cook will walk away the undeserving winner. No. He is deserving and I’m about 90% sure someone will say this tonight on live television point blank. Remember that as of 24 hours ago, Cook was considered the favorite to win. Media may have towed the company line and as I’ve seen on the red carpet, so did the majority of the tone deaf “stars” they spoke to. But bottom line, Cook never lost his sheen as a talented contestant and deserved his place. He wasn’t disgraced. His only crime was not delivering the moment people voted him into the finale for.

Regardless, the winner will have their “moment” tonight under a shower of confetti. It’s not going to be as tarnished as some people might think.

BTW, I don’t think they were saying that Cook/whoever is going to win because of sympathy. No. They called the night a draw. Simon said Archie’s Imagine was not good (it wasn’t..I thought I was taking crazy pills or something). Simon even gave the edge to Cook. He just said that his OTT comments may have helped Cook even more. But in no way did anyone ever say that Cook sucked.

Simon was obnoxious Tuesday night and whether or not he knew the results last night beforehand, I was glad he apologized. Cookie deserved that because Simon seriously was over the top on Tuesday. Whatever Simon’s motivation, he made the right gesture last night.
