Scotty McCreery’s “Clear As Day” Certified Platinum!

NASHVILLE, TN – Scotty McCreery’s debut album, Clear As Day, has been certified platinum for sales of more than 1 million in just three months after its release.

In addition, he was named No. 1 on Billboard magazine’s list of Top New Country Artists for 2011. He also won New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards in December.

Scotty says the platinum certification marks a major milestone in his career.

“It means the world to me,” he says. “It’s one of the highest honors you can get with your album and it’s a huge testament to the loyalty of country music fans and how great they have been to me this year. 2011 was absolutely an incredible, life-changing year for me. I want to say a huge thanks to the fans for this.”

Clear As Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts, making him the youngest man in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release. It also garnered the highest sales of any country solo album released last year. It held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for six weeks.

The album’s first single, “I Love You This Big,” has also been certified gold. His current single, “The Trouble With Girls,” is approaching gold status as well.

The album, which was released Oct. 4, was certified gold for sales of 500,000 in November. The platinum certification followed about seven weeks later.

“Never in a million years did I dream that the album would go platinum in three months,” he says. “Never in a million years did I dream that the album would go platinum. It’s wild! It’s going to take me a few months or years to really wrap my head around it.”

He is also grateful to be included in Billboard’s Dec. 17 year-end issue. In addition to being named No. 1 in its list of Top New Country Artists, he ranked No. 9 on its list of Top Country Albums Artists. Clear As Day ranked No. 12 on its list of Top Country Albums. He is No. 15 on Billboard’s Top Country Artists list.

“That is a huge honor,” he says. “I’m honored to be included in that list of great artists.”

On Thursday, he begins his first country music tour when he joins Brad Paisley’s “Virtual Reality Tour 2012” presented by Chevrolet. The tour, which also features the Band Perry, kicks off in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“I’m looking forward to having a great time,” he says. “It’s going to be a fun, jam-packed set. We are including a lot of the fun songs on the album, and both of the singles are in there. It will be a good chance to see the fans and just enjoy a good show with Brad Paisley and The Band Perry.”

He is well aware of Paisley’s reputation as a great prankster. “The band and I were talking about pranks yesterday in rehearsals. It has to be good pranks, but know-your-place pranks, so we are figuring out what we’ll have in store for Brad. But he has to get us first. We’ll wait!”

His second single, “The Trouble With Girls,” is about to break into the Top 20. “It’s great to see it doing well,” he says. “Still hearing it on the radio is something else, when you hear your voice coming across the other side of the stereo. It’s a pretty incredible feeling. I want to say a huge thanks to country radio for their support and for believing in me. I am looking forward to seeing them while on tour.”

Thanks for posting this, MJ!  Wow–what an impressive press release.  And, once again, Scotty comes across as completely humble–it’s all about the fans and his gratitude.  Good for him!!

This post is about Scotty. Please don’t drag other Idols into the conversation here. Just a per-emptive warning.

  • Bobbi

I’m so happy for Scotty! This is fantastic news!

  • Lexie

Oh, and I love that he comes off as smart, too…”they have to be know-your-place pranks.”

Thanks for posting this MJ. Quite a basketload of honors and firsts this young man has! And the quotes in the article are just so Scotty! It’s no wonder he has legions of loyal fans  Here’s to 2012 being just as thrilling a year for him!

  • Kylee

So happy for Scotty! Its a great week to be a Scotty fan! But probably a better week for Scotty. I remember those days before his album was released when people weren’t even sure he would go gold. Now look how far we have come. Now lets just get a hit radio single or two and he could be on his way to double platinum!(I can dream!)

  • eleanor_V1

What an awesome press release.  I can’t imagine how thrilled and probably surprised Scotty must be at how fast things have been happening. First we had the gold certification of the album & ILYTB and now the platinum certification of the album.  It must seem like a dream to him now.

When album sales are so hard to come by for some artists these days, it’s nice to see these great things happen for Scotty.  Big congrats to him!

My local newspaper today has a picture of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer greets Seacrest  at the start of his address in Las Vegas .
And I found this post ,think it is funny

“I thought this was great- Scotty is now background music for big meetings now -great PR for him”
Live bloggers post from Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s CES 2012 keynote
8:54 PM:Alright we’re all seated and ready for Steve Ballmer to take the stage. Hopefully we hear some interesting news, although Microsoft did say earlier that it could just be a recap of the year. There’s country music playing but we’re not sure who it is.

    8:55pm:Google it for you,it’s Scotty McCreery:Better than that.Not bad if you’re a country fan.

I am sure they really don’t know scotty and don’t know he just got the new iPhone .

Oops SORRYYY MJ , don’t get mad I don’t know how to move my posted to idol headlines for 01/10/12

Happy to see Scotty’s Platinum :)

sorry Lexie didn’t know you already posted it .

When I was reading this I was just thinking to myself “It feels like he was barely certified gold, that was fast!” then I looked back and saw MJ’s post about it going gold on December 5th-just a little over a month ago. WOW. A month after he is certified gold he gets platinum? Awesome!!

I’m still not going to listen to it, but congratulations Scotty! Damn, country fans are SRS BSNS.

Idol has to be LOVING this – the timing couldn’t be better.  Any Idol’s success is a boon to the brand and all the singers that are a part of that brand.  Scotty seems to be doing an excellent job.  I wonder if they’ll give him the plaque when he performs on Idol?

  • Lexie

No problem:)  Hope we both posted in the right place…

Thumbs up Scotty – 1 million CD’s in 3 months is a fantastic accomplishment.

  • Jean Richard

Way to go Scotty!!  Hope 2012 is as good or better for him!  Waiting to hear his next single and I for one will be anxiously awaiting his next album…hope it comes out late this year.  I can’t imagine it being better than CAD but I’d bet anyone that it will be.

  • Trina

Oh Idol is totally going to present him with a plaque during the season, I feel confident. And I bet he gets a major pimp package in the premiere episode like David did!

  • Anonymous

And so here it is, the official MJ post about Clear as Day going platinum!
Therefore, time for me to add myself to the list of those congratulating Scotty, what a BIG milestone for him!  Being a fan, I couldn’t be more pleased!

Something he said caught my eye, and that was …”I want to say a huge thanks to country radio for their support and for believing in me. I am looking forward to seeing them while on tour.”  It’s good to see he’ll be making some radio rounds during the tour!  Scotty and his team don’t seem to miss a beat in working the PR machine.  Smart!

  • tomr

Does anyone know how many country albums went platinum in 2011?  So happy that he was able to do this.  I know some thought that he wouldn’t do that well but I’m sure glad that he has.

  • CindyM

Congratulations Scotty!!!!  Such a great accomplishment for him and his fans too!!

  • Foursquare

So much for the claim in previous seasons as to why sales were low (people aren’t buying CD’s anymore). I guess Scotty has proven that argument wrong.

Since CAD has only been out 3 mos, I can see it surpassing the 1M mark.

  • Lynda Hanson Beaugez

Scotty McCreery, I am so proud of you!  All of this could not have happened to a nicer guy!  Buckle your seatbelt, this machine has just taken off!

  • Goboywonder

    Congratulations Scotty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kylee

Hopefully he makes believers out of those nasty PDs!

  • Anonymous

i think it hasn’t proven that argument wrong:  people AREN’T buying as many CDs anymore as they did.  Which makes the fact that CAD is platimum in 3 months even more of an accomplishment.  People ARE buying SCOTTY.

  • Anonymous

Congrats to Scotty may he have continued success.  Looking forward to this years new crop of idols but will be as excited if not more so  in following the careers of the S10 bunch.

  • SaSa8

Wow – this is so great!  Congratulations to Scotty!  I’m so happy for him.  I love how he is thanking the fans and is so humbled by his success thus far.  He is off to a great start on what I believe will be another great year for him!  I am looking forward to following his music career.

  • mchcat

Congratulations Scotty – I was thrilled with the opening line on Taste of Country –“….matter of not if but when CAD goes platinum..” so exciting following him – I wish the tour was coming my way – maybe next time

  • Anonymous

I can’t get over how humble Scotty is, despite his tremendous success.

Levine, Cowell – are you taking notes?

  • Anonymous

Great press release – didn’t miss a beat in highlighting all off Scotty’s accomplishments.
It’s just awesomeness thinking how much Scotty has accomplished in such a short short time.   And this is just the beginning…..
I couldn’t be prouder for Scotty & I am just happy to be a fan!

  • Kylee

Ha, found my comment when Scotty’s debut numbers were being released. Feels good to be right :)

I know I am getting a little ahead of myself, but I think his album will
be the first platinum debut album since David Cook. They need to
release the right singles and that could happen. Some of the singles on
the album have “Breakout artist” written all over them.

  • Maria Romeo

Im extreamly happy for Scotty!!!  wish paisley tour was gonna be where i live but nope :(

  • Anonymous

Awesome.  Now I want a Christmas album next year.

  • Anonymous

There were only 2 country albums that went platinum in 2011 – Lady A & Scotty.

  • Anonymous

Congrats to Scotty on going platinum. Couldn’t happen to a nicer, young man with a good head on his shoulders. He’s a platinum recording artist, still going to school, planning to go to college, planning to play baseball in school, & juggling this all with a career. He must be tired. You can’t say he’s not busy.

With the right singles following TTWG, he can have some big hit singles & even a bigger year than 2011. With some better material & the possibility of Scotty writing on his 2nd album, I could see him become one of the long-term successful artists to come out of Idol. He’s young & he’s only going to get better.

  • tennislover

We dreamed of CAD to turn GOLD last October. Now we can dream of CAD getting 2x platinum. We know dreams come true.

  • Anonymous

Congratulations Scotty! He is the Country Justin Beiber (in a good way, I mind you to all who are not fond of JB). With his charming and humble demeanor, not to mention an good voice, I am not surprised on him getting the platinum.

  • Lynda Hanson Beaugez

Is there a date for this certification?  Was it certified in 2011 or 2012 ?

  • Anonymous

I posted this morning & came back to see what yall had to all your positive glowing comments!  Especially love “Buckle your seatbelt, this machine has just taken off.” This young man is the real deal and one smart cookie too. I see great things ahead for him, and I can’t wait to watch it all happen.

  • Kylee

I think 2012. Just my assumption though.

  • Chrissie H

Just now I read the article and every comment which I only can agree to in every way. Funny- it just hit me that the first time I saw Scotty on AI, I was like: “WOW”, and now I realize, I kept wow ing him all through 2011 and now I start a new year wowing. I conclude now he is amazing and for me it´s a beautiful morning and a great way to start the day.

  • Anonymous

Chrissie H  I too said WOW each and every time he was on Idol from audition day on and now I still say it every time I listen to CAD which is practically every day.Glad I’m not the only one!

  • Anonymous

I’m jiggling with excitement. Scotty deserves all of this and more. I hope his success continues and he’ll have a long-term career. His album sure has songs that have major hit potential that can establish his name in country music.

ETA: I think Scotty will get another certification soon. I’m pretty sure TTWG is bound to go Gold.

  • tomr

Thanks so much for answering my question.

I have a ticket to the Brad Paisley concert this weekend (yep, a big fan of Brad), so I’ll be able to see Scotty in person – maybe he’ll finally win me over in person.

  • Lexie

Thanks, ptebwwong…even as a country music follower, I didn’t realize that only 2 country albums went platinum:)))))))

  • Anonymous

congrats Scotty  on a great year and many more to come one day i hope to see you in concert

  • sharilee

Congrats Scotty for hitting platinum on CAD.  So proud to be your fan from Malaysia.

    “He’s a platinum recording artist…..”

We all know he will “forever” be introduced as a platinum recording artist and I’ll personally enjoy hearing it.

  • Anonymous

Many people say that country music sells. That is true, but not as big as everyone makes it seem. Many artists in country reach gold, but platinum is still hard even for an album with multiple hits. Brad Paisley’s album with hits like “Old Alabama” & his duet with Carrie still is just gold. Many artists have platinum singles like The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young” is multi-platinum. But there album isn’t platinum yet. Although I expect it to reach platinum status.

  • CanadianLady

According to this The Band Perry’s album did go platinum in Dec.

  • Anonymous

I’m so hoping you do enjoy his part of the concert. It should be a great night. Please do let us know how it goes. Videos would be nice too!

Oops. I must have missed the announcement. Thanks for the info.

  • Erlinda

    Congratulation Scotty!

  • Kay Parrish

So Proud of Scotty. I think it is wonderful that it only took 3 months and I know the actual sales of 1 million to consumers is not far behind. Working on getting ttwg to gold and Ilytb isn’t far from platinum. Very Happy camper here
