Since this is fan voted, I assume Scotty will win

I’d certainly like to think so, but not knowing how much influence the industry gets on the winner, I don’t think it’s a near certainty.  I know they like Hunter Hayes because he’s been around since he was about 5 years old (probably think he’s “paid his dues”) and is a good musician and songwriter even though IMO he can’t hold a candle to the others, in particular Scotty, as far as singing goes it wouldn’t surprise me to see him get the industry vote.  He also has a lot of fans so it will be interesting to see the outcome.

Not fair?  Maybe not, but to me it seems to be the way the country music insiders seem to handle things when I look at the resistance the PD’s/DJ’s are giving to TTWG, a video which is only about 40K away from 4 mil views and flooded with positive comments on YouTube about it.

I think Scotty will need all the votes his fans can give him on this one and then some.  Think they will have to be overwhelming to get the industry voters to let him have it.  Sure hope some of you can say “I told you so” to me when we see the final outcome! lol

So for the next 823 years, people will say, that never happens, then poof, there it will be.  That is interesting.

Well hey, the thought was interesting. So now we will see it in our lifetime. in a few years.

Good luck to Scotty and Congratulations on the nomination. Not a country fan, but talent is talent, no matter where it comes from and Scotty is a huge talent. So is Lauren.

JudyOhio: And if that is the case, after fan voting on the “8″, it will be the industry who chooses the final “3″…….and after that, the fans only will vote and make the decision for the winner (with no input from “the industry” at that point)?

I hadn’t realized the rules had changed this year. SaSa8 posted the new ones:

“The top 8 artists from the first round of ACM professional voting are considered semi-finalists and will compete via the GAC fan vote at GACTV.com/ACM, combined with the ACM professional membership vote, to determine the final 3 nominees for the Award. The final 3 nominees will compete for the trophy, with a combined fan and professional membership vote to determine the winner”

So, the 8 semifinalists were selected by the industry, and both the 3 finalists and the winner will be selected by a fan/industry vote combo where they won’t reveal how each vote is weighted.
I know fans will be fans and fans will worry. I think there’ll be some jostling to be 1 of the final 3 (because it may mean the difference between a performance splot and not) and not much more. Scotty being in the category means he’s running away with the fan vote, the industry knows that, and I don’t think they’ll get in the way.

amaryl: How many country award shows are there? No really.

2 major ones, the CMAs and the ACMs.

amaryl: What award did Scotty win just recently?

An ACA, a new FOX ratings grab that people don’t take seriously.

So, it’s almost like Entertainer Of The Year’s becoming more of a “breakthrough” category in some cases, at least for some nominations.

In addition to the Brad thing in 2010, I get the sense that the CMAs are really going out of their way to reward people who have had crossover success (Taylor, Lady A) or otherwise acted as “ambassadors” for country music by achieving success in other media (Taylor, Blake, Taylor). Unfortunately, the only place to do that is in EOTY, since all the other categories are either rigidly defined or song-related. “Entertainer” is kind of nebulous compared to “Vocalist”. I think that also explains why established acts with huge tours are getting shut out of the category in favor of their, or other artists’, opening acts; those opening acts have had a bigger pop culture impact. Maybe this is their attempt to be edgy.

I mean, they were able to get Blake’s crappy 6 pack album All About Tonight nominated for Album Of The Year at the CMAs despite sales of
like 200k and meh reviews! Crazy!

This doesn’t get any less ridiculous the more I read it, and this is coming from someone who didn’t mind the Entertainer nom. My conspiracy theory is that the groups behind the other four nominees voted like crazy for Blake’s EP to be included because it reduced the number of their competitors from four to three.

… And dammit, I had an actual relevant comment to make, but I forgot it in my rage about the EP.

I’m so pumped up after reading this. First, platinum album, then, the tour, and now this nomination. So many blessings to be thankful. I do believe that when it rains, it pours. Congrats, in advance, Scotty!
