arrives at Fox's "American Idol" season 10 finale results show held at Nokia Theatre LA Live on May 25, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. If you check out the websites of Scotty McCreery (HERE) and Lauren Alaina (HERE) you’ll see that they both have countdown clocks set to go off at 8 pm tonight, at which time, according to their websites,  there will be a special announcement about their upcoming debut albums. Sign up for their email list to receive the news in your inbox.

Here’s something weird. If you set your computer clock to 7 pm, and surf to their respective websites, you receive a popup that says ‘get the new single at iTunes today’. Which makes no sense, because singles are usually released on Tuesday, and typically there is more advance warning ahead of a new single release? Maybe it’s just a reminder to download their current singles, “I Love You This Big” and “Like My Mother Does”

So I don’t know… We’ll find out at 8 pm.

Tonight the Top 11 perform a concert in Baltimore. After, they head straight to New York City where they have to be up bright and early tomorrow morning to perform a free concert at Central Park for the Good Morning America concert series. If you’d like to attend, a tweet from 19E advises you enter 72nd & 5th at 6 am. Early!

Maybe it’s just a reminder to download their current singles, “I Love You This Big” and “Like My Mother Does”

I agree mj if that is what it is because that isn’t new news at all. If that truly is it then possibly the label is trying to give the singles a boost with downloads now that the videos have premiered. Hopefully, the news is actually news, (i.e. album release dates).

  • windmills

I just find it really hard to believe that they would announce new singles for Scotty and Lauren at the same time again. Too, they both have a chance to hit new peaks at country radio this week so it’d be a weird time to pull the plug.

I’m wondering if October 11th is really going to be the release date for Lauren’s album. Martina’s album was just announced as being released on that day. Lauren would probably outsell her 1st week which would be a weird feeling for both of them. Martina’s on Republic Nashville which is a joint venture between Universal and Scott B****h*tta so they’re kind of under the same big label umbrella even though they’re not on sister labels. Dierks Bentley’s no longer scheduled to release his album that day.

By the way, Martina has the same producer for her album as Lauren, Byron Gallimore.

Scotty’s countdown is scheduled to go off at 7 PM EDT.

Has there been an official announcement of album release date yet? Maybe that’s all it is.

  • Lilzie

Maybe I’m too much of a newbie but isn’t possible to have songs chart at the same time. Besides, both are on the downswing, (the song itself, not the video) Lauren’s in particular has been steadily going down. We know about OOST being available outside North America and we just heard about one of Lauren’s new songs earlier this week. That said, it could just be official album release dates and info.

  • http://www.twilightslo.com Mateja

Yeah, I’m a bit worried. I don’t want Scotty and Lauren to release second singles at the same time. It was bad enough that their label pushed Scotty’s single first after the finale and started really pushing Lauren’s single just recently. I get it, they had to push Scotty’s single immediately because he is the Idol winner. But at the same time I don’t want Lauren to be always pushed aside. I was hoping they would push Scotty’s coronation song first, get all the adds he can get and then release a new song for Lauren and push her new single before Scotty’s second. Now, it just looks like they will again release their singles at the same time.

  • jing_ftw

They have been doing it even before the tour started, and have been doing more of it while on tour. It was all new to them, but at this point they got it down and are extremely satisfied. Can’t wait for their next day off to do more.
After all their hard work, they are ready to say … when their respective albums will be available.

    What were you thinking?

  • windmills

Mateja: Yeah, I’m a bit worried.

I don’t think that’s really what happened. IMO the biggest reason Scotty’s single has gone t20 and Lauren’s struggled to make t40 is production. Scotty got country production and somehow ILYTB is a better record than song. Lauren had the better song but because some urban/pop producer did it, it’s clinical and devoid of all the emotion that was a part of Lauren’s live performance of the song. It was screwed right out of the gate. Scotty’s single has tested a lot better than Lauren’s for that 1 big reason: it just sounds better.

Scotty’s never gotten any individual ads in the country publications, nothing like the couple of weeks of ad support Lauren’s gotten the last couple of weeks. He started big out of the gate and made t25 in 3 weeks just on the sheer momentum of his win and his fanbase which has let country radio know they want to hear him. But ever since then it’s been a slog for him to make t20 and try to get higher on a crowded chart. I haven’t seen big signs of label promo for Scotty other than him starting to radio interviews but Lauren’s doing those too.

Lilzie: Maybe I’m too much of a newbie but isn’t possible to have songs chart at the same time. Besides, both are on the downswing, (the song itself, not the video) Lauren’s in particular has been steadily going down.

Actually because of label support Lauren’s single has its best chance to make t40 this week. Scotty’s single has a chance to reach a new Mediabase peak of #15 though it’s unlikely to top its peak at Billboard of #17. So, this week would be a weird week to pull the singles since if they release new songs, country radio’s more likely to shift on over to those songs. After all a new Scotty single would probably be a stronger song by default and a new Lauren single would probably sound better production wise by default as well as probably being a better song than LMMD.

That being said I agree the whole situation with their follow up singles will be interesting as to whose gets announced 1st or if they get announced at the same time and all that. It seems like they’re sticking to joint promotion on most fronts for now but at some point, these 2 will have to go off and do their own things.

  • Lucy1234

both are on the downswing, (the song itself, not the video)

That is incorrect. Both Lauren’s and Scotty’s songs are still moving up the charts. Scotty’s has slowed down some but still with a bullet and Lauren’s has been steadily moving up the last couple of weeks. With the videos just released, both songs have more buzz and are going up in sales. It doesn’t make sense to release new singles now.

Well, then … if Scotty’s song didn’t need much label support, why didn’t Mercury start pushing Lauren’s song immediately or about 2 weeks after the finale?

I agree it wasn’t ideal for Lauren to have her first single produced by non-country producer. But, if the label still wanted to push LMMD, why didn’t they get suitable producer and make Lauren re-record LMMD after the media tour? They would have enough time to re-release the song to iTunes and country radio.

  • jeffreythegleek

Since I’m sure the Twitter-verse is all abuzz with speculation, I’ll throw something out there that isn’t album or single related. Maybe they both got offers to open for big-name acts on tour in the fall and they were too good to pass up? They could hone their solo stage acts and do radio promo at the same time.

  • windmills

Mateja: Well, then … if Scotty’s song didn’t need much label support, why didn’t Mercury start pushing Lauren’s song immediately or about 2 weeks after the finale?

I don’t think Mercury had really planned on pushing either song because neither was expected to last long as a single. But ILYTB was big in its 1st 3 weeks, at which point they couldn’t just tell country radio to forget about it and go for a different song. That may have changed the promo plans for Lauren too, but I also can’t help but wonder if her vocal issues resulted in delayed recording which also resulted in a new single not being ready which then resulted in the label now trying to at least get LMMD the t40 milestone and as many country stations on board as possible before they send out something new.

Mateja: I agree it wasn’t ideal for Lauren to have her first single produced by non-country producer. That would’ve been a waste of energy and money IMO. LMMD is not so strong a song that it’s worth rerecording. Better to save Lauren’s voice for better songs.

  • Elliegrll

I don’t think Mercury had really planned on pushing either song because neither was expected to last long as a single.

Scotty confirmed this a few weeks ago. In an interview he said that they didn’t expect the song to take off, and that they had planned on releasing his first single by now.

  • Kylee

I’m personally hoping its more than one thing-maybe official album release dates and who they are opening for. Scotty mentioned he is possibly opening for a big name-just isn’t official yet. I’m hoping Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Brad Paisley or Tim McGraw.

  • girlygirl

Hopefully Lauren will be feeling better by the time she’s supposed to make this announcement

I sure hope Lauren performs tonight since I will be at the concert and she is the reason I am going.

  • Lucy1234

Are they suppose to make the announcements themselves at the concert or will the announcement be made on their websites?

  • chearts77

2 hours and counting. I can’t wait to hear what the news is. More than likely, their official release dates for the albums. I wish I could go to the concert tonight. That’s the closest one to me. Oh well…maybe I can catch Scotty when he tours with someone.

As far as if they announce a tour coming up and who they’d tour with, I’d like to see Scotty tour with Brad. :)

  • Pam

#I’m not feeling good & had to leave the arena to go to the doctor & I just found out my video is over 100000 views. Makes me feel better(:

awwww poor Lauren. She has been a real trooper through all of her ups and downs with her injury last month in Portland, OR and trying to fight vocal issues stemming from recording and performing for this tour.

RE the singles issue. Since LMMD is starting to get some momentum it would be ridiculous to yank the song now and release something else.

Scotty confirmed this a few weeks ago. In an interview he said that they didn’t expect the song to take off, and that they had planned on releasing his first single by now.

Yep, I remember seeing that same interview too. I’m hoping it’s an album release date or an opening act announcement of some type.

  • Mike M

I sure hope Lauren performs tonight since I will be at the concert and she is the reason I am going.

I’d bet she will perform. Her mother said she has a respiratory infection. I suspect she pretty exhausted, too. I follow her aunt’s twitter sometimes, and apparently on their day off after the Detroit concert, Lauren and her mom left Detroit after midnight, traveled all night and arrived in Rossville the next morning. After a few hours with family, she spent four hours signing photos (I’d imagine for the pre-order package) then went to Nashville and recorded late into the night to finish the album before flying into Columbus for the next concert. By the time she arrived there she was running a fever. Makes me tired just thinking about it.

ETA: I’m betting the news on the website will be album release. I can’t in any way, shape or form make any sense out of releasing a single right now. LMMD is actually pretty much at its strongest.

  • Lilzie

Poor Lauren has had a tough month of it. That said, several seem to have been sick along the way. Not surprising when you consider they are in close quarters all the time (buses, planes and arenas) and 5 concerts a week plus all the rest of the travel and activity. It is a tough business …

  • Lucy1234

If they were smart they would just have Lauren perform in the 2d half if she does perform. She can hopefully make it through her set and duet with Scotty.

  • girlygirl

Lauren just tweeted. She has severe bronchitis and won’t be performing tonight. Poor kid :(

  • Mike M

    @lauren_alaina
Hey y’all ! I just left the doctor and I have severe bronchitis. Therefore I’m not gonna be performing tonight. I’m really sorry

So sorry for you Lucy1234, I know you are one of her biggest fans.

  • keware

I wonder if one of the other girls will do the duet with Scotty? Thia would do a nice job I’m sure. I hope they just don’t cut it out.

  • girlygirl

I wonder if Lauren will have to skip the GMA concert???

  • JudyOhio

I’ve thought of some scenarios where it may not be a good idea to release new singles right now (just like the rest of you), and I can think of a few scenarios where it may be a good idea too. But, ummm, for purely my own selfish and curious reasons, I’d love the announcement to be new singles from their albums!

  • JudyOhio

    nvm, answered my own question

  • eyelinerandcigarettes

Awww, I hope Lauren gets some rest.

I wonder who will sing the duet with Scotty though.

  • BabyBells

Oh good. I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who hadn’t gotten anything. Though I was waiting on Lauren’s, not Scotty’s.

  • Pam

If you go to Scotty’s site, you will see a pop up box that says:

chceck your email, messages going out now.

I’m sure it says the same thing on Lauren’s site as well. So evidently the news is only going out to newsletter subscribers on both sites.

ETA: Yep, you get the same pop up box message on both sites.
