The CMT Music Awards just got a lot more happening with a whole lot more Idol! Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, and Casey James have been added as performers on the Nationwide Insurance stage at the CMT Music Awards. Check out the press release after the jump!

NASHVILLE – May 31, 2012 – The 2012 CMT MUSIC AWARDS promises to be a great night of live music with the addition of Lauren Alaina, Casey James, Jana Kramer, Scotty McCreery, Kip Moore and The Farm as performers on the Nationwide Insurance stage. For the fifth year in a row, Nationwide Insurance will be prominently featured throughout the night on a branded performance stage resembling its blue frame logo. The 2012 CMT MUSIC AWARDS will air LIVE on Wednesday, June 6 at 8:00 p.m., ET/PT on CMT and CMT.com.

Via CMT press release

Typically performers on this stage get short performance slots that air as the show goes to commercial. Should still be a great way to showcase current/new singles for the target audience!

Carrie Underwood is already announced as a main stage performer. Also performing on the main stage are Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Toby Keith, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Willie Nelson, Brad Paisley, Pistol Annies, Rascal Flatts, The Band Perry, Hank Williams, Jr. and Zac Brown Band.

Carrie, Scotty, Lauren, and Kellie Pickler are all nominated for CMT Music Awards this year with Carrie’s 5 nominations leading the pack. So, CMT, how about adding Ms. Kellie Pickler (who should be back from her 5th U.S.O. tour by then) to your list of performers? And maybe the likes of Bucky Covington, Josh Gracin, and Ms. Skylar Laine to present?

The CMT Music Awards air next Wednesday June 6th at 8 PM Eastern on CMT and CMT.com. The awards are fan voted. According to the press release:

Fans can vote online at CMT.com, and on their mobile device at CMT Mobile or the CMT Insider app available on iPhone, iPad and Android now through June 4 to determine the winners. The five finalists for VIDEO OF THE YEAR will be announced at the beginning of the live show and fans can then vote at CMT.com, CMT mobile, on the CMT Insider app and via text message throughout the live telecast (ET/CT only) to determine the night’s big winner.

Lexie: Just curious, do you think there will be another announcement?  Because some of the those nominated for the Breakthrough award aren’t included and several of these people weren’t nominated?

My guess would be no. The CMTs are a 2 1/2 hour show if I remember right. There’s already 14 full performances and 6 shorter ones. Typically an hour of an awards show will have 6 or 7 full performances. If you figure 2 side stage performances equal the time of 1 main stage performance then 14+6 is about as much room as there is. I’m surprised Brantley Gilbert and Hunter Hayes aren’t performing. They both have hot singles out too and I would think their teams would love the promo opportunity.

larc: I added it since it’s in the same time frame.  The CMA Music Festival starts in Nashville on the day immediately following the CMT awards.

Yeah, it’s understood next week is a big week in the country music world. Things really get going Tuesday, even Monday in some cases. MJ covers the whole week of events as much as possible every year.

LVD: But I dont think there is any chance at all that Casey would do Lets dont call ot a night, BNA has just now really forwarded Crying on a suitcase to radio, a lot of radio stations suddenly started playing COAS last night, and the impact date is on the 18th. So I think it would definitively be COAS, and you are right it is not a bad choice for a condensed version.

I’m gunshy about making assumptions when the show producers can have such an influence on what’s sung but you’re probably right :)

Since I am becoming  bigger Lauren fan these days, I am happy she is getting a shot to perform. Hope she sings something other then Georgia Peaches. She needs to perform a song that shows off her pretty tone and Georgia Peaches doesnt cut it.
    Congrats to the other performers.

I think both Tupelo and DRP show off her tone I think they are  two of the front runners for next single. If we are going by what she sings nearly every performance you can add I’m not one of Them (opening shows with it now use to open with GP) and One of Those Boys has always been in her shows.

  • Chris

DRP is already short, so they could cut off a minute. Maybe super simple, w Zach and that could be real pretty. I prefer up tempo but she could have a moment like her Strawberry Festival performance.

I hope they get at least a minute to sing otherwise it is like name that tune in five notes. LOL

This is such GREAT Awesome news for Casey James!  Hopefully this turns the country market onto his oh so good cd!  IMO Casey is the real deal and this break hopefully is fruitful.

a lot of radio stations suddenly started playing COAS last night,

Really, LVD? Wow that’s great news. Do you mind sharing where you got this info and some specifics?

CaseyJ performing wasn’t even a pipe dream so that’s a huge pleasant surprise!

ITA. I was stunned when I read this. I really think this shows that CJ has some good mgmt and some strong label backing. What a fantastic way to kick off single 2. And no, windmills, I’m not going to succumb to your negativity about him singing LDCIAN instead of COAS. LOL

And wow – CJ is great live – and his constant touring over the last year has really improved his skills. I’m hoping for a killer guitar solo. ;-)

i’m hoping Lauren FINALLY debuts her new single. And I’m hoping it’s 18 inches. I love DRP but I doubt that would make a dent on radio. Sigh. So sad.

I am so glad Lauren is singing on the CMT awards. I pray and hope she sings a brand new single and not GP. We need to hear a new song.  Lauren needs to release a fast song because someone on idolforums said they talked to a DJ at radio station who said they told her that they are not to keen on playing slow ballads during the summer. Apparently they had called to request Hunter Hayes song “WANTED” and the DJ didn’t want to play and they asked him why. So lauren and her management need to take heed to that warning

Carol the reason we know coas is getting radio play the last few days is the stations are tweeting when they put it in their smackdowns. Its won most of them. It will be on its third night on wkkw and it was on its second night on ksd and should win. Casey did the man jam at y108 and they have actually played his song as many as 13 times in one week. They are on his leader board at mediabas. He had a new starter show up today.

Really, LVD? Wow that’s great news. Do you mind sharing where you got this info and some specifics?

Well it is a combination of things. WDSY Pittsburgh has been playing Casey for the past week and a half. You can see that on All Access. But suddenly since last night, COAS has been featured in a lot of new music polls and so on, and some of them play the song. You can also see York on the starters list at All Access. And then there is yes.com but they are not perfect, it doesn’t always show up when a song gets played. But from all of these things in the past 24 hours or so, I can say that COAS has gotten spins from:

WFUS Tampa, WPUR Atlantic city, KDS St Louis, WGTY York, WBYT Indiana, WKKW Faimont, KASE Austin, KWNR Las Vegas, KDAF Kansas, KMPS Seattle and of course WDSY Pittsburgh.

KDS, WKKW and KASE should show up tomorrow on All Access.

    I hope that helps.

And today is CaseyJ’s 30th birthday so he must be celebrating in style. Happy for him!

DJs are tricky, sometimes they give real advice but they also may say anything to get a fan off his back. I agree that generally summer is fast songs but Wanted is a love song and those tend to cross seasons. And there are exceptions so they all have to take advice but move on. The best is to remember the song has to work in Iowa, Washington, California, and beyond. And cross tastes since in some towns there is only 1 country station. Carrie does that very well with songs like Good Girl.

I am delighted to see that Casey is getting a spot on this show.  Would love to hear COAS.
