Scotty McCreery – Garth Brooks’ “The River” with Children’s Choir (VIDEO)

American Idol Season 10 winner, Scotty McCreery has been juggling his burgeoning music career with college classes since September, and in one more show of support for education, the young singer hosted the Annual CMA Keep the Music Playing concert in Nashville earlier this week.

Scotty presented a 1.2 million dollar check to Nashville area school music programs. Plus, he performed Garth Brooks’ “The River” along with a choir of children. Check it out below.

“I was in school music my entire life,” says Scotty on the importance of music ed in his own life, “Started in elementary school, middle school, high school. That was definitely a huge part in my musical background and my foundation and everything.”

Currently, Scotty is attending North Carolina State University during the week, and playing concerts on the weekends in a tour dubbed “The Weekend Warrior Tour.”

Scotty is also currently working on his sophomore album.

Absolutely marvelous!! Scotty is great with the kids. Right here is why we need to keep music education in our schools. Many a successful person was molded in music class. Way to go, Scotty!!!

I love that Scotty is out there promoting/working with events related to Education.

This is something that is near and dear to his heart, especially the music part.

    Loved this!

Also, this evening, for his show in Pittsburgh…the Country radio station there, Froggy, has been promoting his show for hours.:))

I appreciate Scotty for allowing the children to shine during their parts. Unfortunately, I’ve seen more “mature” performers do otherwise.
What a sweet treat it must have been for them.

This is so adorable. The kids are good too. Good job Scotty.

I think The River is my favorite of all the covers Scotty has done, and this performance with the kids is perhaps the best of them all.  What an honor to have been asked to do this and what a thrill for the kids to be performing for such a big audience with the help of a professional.  A great evening for everyone involved!

Scotty sings this like it’s an experiment in science class.  Every syllable is clear, every note is right on, the meter is correct, etc.  What’s missing is the music.  But then, he is more of a word singer than a melody singer.

    Scotty + Children’s Choir = Totally ADORABLE.

Same here. The River is one of my favorite Scotty Idol performances.  The song fits right in his wheelhouse.

So good – Scotty just blended in beautifully with all the kids.  He didn’t try to over sing them.

I think this is just the perfect song for this adorable choir of kids to sing, and they sound wonderful. As for Scotty, he’s  remarkable, and in listening to his very professional like speech he gave at this CMA event, and the interviews he gave…well done, Scotty!!!

If you say so, but I can’t help but feel guilty for wanting the kids to hush, so that I can hear Scotty. He sounds great on this song.

To watch and listen to Scotty and the kids singing this song – It´s absolutely beautiful and heartwarming. Couldn´t be any better.

I think Scotty sang more carefully here…even held his hands like the kids:)) because of the environment.  Towards the end, you could see him starting to loosen up–and him being loose is definitely not a problem in concert.  He’s showing so much creativity in concert so far now that he’s on his own tour–I never would even have imagined!

Pretty neat event for Scotty.  I love that the CMA invited him to do this.  They picked a perfect, curret role model for those kids showing them what hard work an dedication can bring for a musician.  Also, Scotty is a good spokesperson talking about how important music education is in the public schools and the benefit of funding music programs.
Scotty singing with the children was so sweet.  And what a great donation for CMA to give $1.2 million.  Wow.

I saw him in Niagara Falls on the 2nd day of his tour, and trust me, he can get loose and go with the music. But he still makes every word clear, which I for one really appreciate.

I think he did exactly the right thing here. Great job!
