Why in the world would I ever spend money on music I don’t like or “support” someone who makes 100x more than I do and just got a million dollar contract? There are a ton of “nice” people in the world who could use the money.

I certainly wouldn’t, but it cost nothing commenting that I did and plug in the artist I really like.

  • Pippygirl

Again, why? Non Idol watchers would baulk at a CD that was slapped together in a month and if they were a fan they’d buy it themself.

I bought Kris’ album as a birthday gift for a co-worker. She likes Kris well enough to see him perform but doesn’t believe in buying music (she downloads it illegally). Buying her his cd saved me the trouble of thinking of a gift and supported Kris too. :)

If someone likes David Bowie, they may appreciate Adam. Likewise, someone who enjoys blue-eyed soul-infused pop/AC may like Kris. It’s a matter of knowing your friends’ tastes and gauging appropriately.

It wasn’t slapped together in a month, and if you would actually listen to the music, you might like it or at least realize a friend or family member might like it. You are criticizing the album before you have heard it.

No, I’m really not and I’m not trying to be fresh either :) But if I bought someone a CD who liked country music I would buy them an artist they liked who has new music out. I’d never buy music of an unknown artist for someone just as I wouldn’t want some unknown artist as a gift either. I can just go on Spotify and listen to it.

To me this makes much more sense. The co-worker watches the show even saw Kris perform but wouldn’t spring for the music. I have to say though I’d really have to like this co-worker a heck of a lot to just buy them a gift for no reason.

Pippygirl, that totally makes sense. She liked Kris, she doesn’t like to spend money on CD, and you killed two birds with one stone. I did the same thing for my friend, who is big Adam fan, but has serious financial hardship.
I can’t stand country music, none of my friends like country music, I don’t see any reason for spending money on Scotty’s CD.

There are reports of Scotty’s CD selling out in Walmarts (some before its even put on shelves:) Crossing my fingers for good numbers and wouldn’t you think they’d have learned from the EP:)?

I heard that too! Wow so probably we will have big sales this week

In fact, just saw another tweet from another Walmart…sold out in 3 hours:)

I bought CAD at a Best Buy this afternoon. It was on sale at $9.99. There were only 4 copies. A clerk was restocking at the time and said the 3 left after I got mine were the last they had. She said more are expected tomorrow or Thursday. She didn’t know how many they got initially, but said there were “lots of them.”

I hope these are good signs for his sales. I would like to see him crack at least 100K.

I ask this question after every season of Idol. It’s just part of the whole Idol thing. Idol watchers get very involved in “supporting” their favorite and do things like buy 50 CDs to give as gifts to people who have zero interest in the artist. ;)

  • Elliegrll

After listening to the album it’s clear that once again a male idol finalist has been given a first single, where the intention is to appeal to the female idol fanbase, and not to establish him as an artist by releasing a song that would appeal to people who listen to and buy his style of music. “The Trouble With Girls” is not a bad song, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Walk in the Country, Water Tower Town, Write Your Name on My Hand, You Make that Look Good, or Better Than That.

Actually, if you have the money and really want to support the singer / musician / artist / author / crafts person, what better way is there than buying his or her product? And hopefully some people will appreciate the gifts or pass them on to someone else who will. :)

I found it interesting, that “bulk” buying is OK for one Idol, but it was ridiculed and mocked when fans of other Idols did it?
    Double standard?

A sale is a sale. Money is just as green and adds up the same no matter whether 100 people buy 100 albums or one person does.

I think that there are better ways of helping an artist than bulk buying. New artist need promotion, and it would be more efficient to figure out a way to use the money to help get the artists name out to people who don’t know about him or her. If you give most people a cd of an artist who they aren’t familiar with, the likely outcome is that they just won’t listen to the album. Besides that, most individuals can’t buy enough cds where it will really make a difference. 100 cds is not a huge figure, especially when it takes a few thousand or more being sold before an artist will see a piece of the profits.

    Buying 100 albums is sick.

Again, why? Why not giving it to a deserving charity. Why “support” a millionaire?

I actually like TTWG, but agree the others are so much better. Here’s hoping radio will play TTWG enough so that we can get to that next single:) I personally have Write Your Number stuck in my head, in a good way…

Hell yes! I still have my bet on first week sales over 125k-150k..but now Ihave a little voice on my head buzzing “200k +”

I’m not crazy about buying music at Walmart, because they censor a lot of music. Or rather, they sell censored music. And I’m not sure it’s always obvious until you get it home and listen to it.

Anyhow, I was there Saturday and saw Kris’s CD selling (as usual) for $13.88. Never really understood that. Adam’s CD was $9.99, Jason Casro’s was, I think, $8.99. David Cook’s new one may have been over 10 dollars – not sure.

Why that CD is almost 14 dollars, I’ll never understand. I’m glad Scotty’s is 10 dollars. It makes more sense.

Still number 1 on itunes! Hopefully he can stay steady.
