What else do you people need as a proof that Scott D. MacIntyre is capable of producing his own album?
And yes, his EP “View From Above” with 6 original songs will be available for downloads from amazon.com by July 1, 2009.
And yes, he is halfway done with his album and will be releasing it by fall 2009
And yes, I care about what Scott sings.
And yes, I got a complete collection of all his 6 pre-AI CDs (since age 11)
And yes, I listen to his songs all day.
And yes, I am waiting for the book that he will write.
And yes, I look forward to seeing him on tour and I will wear red.
And yes, I believe he is capable of making a pop album.

Regarding his AI performances, his voice is limited, but very pretty when used in its proper range, in the proper style. Unfortunately, that style tends to gravitate toward an older, folksy style (like James Taylor) rather than anything that’s really current or pop-oriented. But if he wants to either make more albums and/or write, I suggest the folk music route – very good fit for him.

I’m not enough of a musician to really be able to tell how well he was playing the piano, but he certainly didn’t grab my attention with it the way Matt or Kris did, and as a singer he seemed like his voice was uninteresting and always cracking and straining all over the place.

It’s the curse of the lifelong classical training, I think. I know because I suffered from it myself. He played pretty complex stuff on the show, it seemed to me, and played it easily, but classical training tends to leave a lot of people with a little stiffness about their playing, and that’s what I saw in Scott. He’s a good pianist but he doesn’t quite roll with it the way you expect in pop music. (ditto for his singing, although I think he’s a way way better pianist than he is a singer.)

Matt was the one who impressed me — he played a lot *with* the band, not on his own, which is tough, and really exhibited what I thought was very organic and free playing, and pretty complex in its own right. Kris didn’t really impress me either — his playing was way too simple to be impressive, I thought. But I know he hasn’t been playing very long.

Yes. He already has five pre-Idol albums out there. I already have two of them. One is a collection of classical piano instrumentals recorded when he was only 14 or 15. The second was released two years ago. It’s a collection of pop songs, mostly written while in England. Pretty good vocals, but great songwriting. He can easily see him songwriting for others, and probably sooner than later.

Although he’ll go the independent route, he may try for somewhat of a marketing distributor. His albums are presently distributed by a small online record store (CDBaby) that sells independently produced albums, but do not do much marketing. He realizes he’s not going with 19E.

Love Scott. Do not love the hat.

I don’t think Scott is over-confident. He seems very real to me. Why shouldn’t he believe in himself? He just made top 10 on the hottest show despite his limitations. That’s pretty amazing.

I do think good things will come to him. He may not become “famous”, but he seems talented and I think he will enjoy a career in the music industry. Not everyone can be a pop singer, but there are sure a lot of other career paths for him in the music business.

So why did he seem so mediocre at best on the show?

Idol wannabees are usually pretty mediocre. This season’s cast was unusual in that it not only had a lot of mediocre singers, but a lot of boring singers, too. Half the cast, it seemed, was in the mellow white dude R&B camp. No country singers. No African American male singers. Not much to break up the monotony. They needed to have one of the Matt/Scott/Anoop group, not all three.

So why did he seem so mediocre at best on the show? Why is he copying Mattà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s style with the hats?

Matt isn’t exactly the first person to wear a hat, haha. I think it looks good on Scott.

I’m not a fan of Scott’s voice, but if he’s good at songwriting and producing, I hope he has a solid career there. I’m glad he and Matt are doing the dueling pianos on tour since it got cut from the finale.

I think I’m in the minority, but Scott’s attitude doesn’t bother me. He seems a little overconfident at times, but to me he just seems like one of those really smart people who sometimes don’t know where to stop. He’s a pretty funny guy, judging from some of his comments during Idol (“We can move it closer!”).

I, for one, enjoy his original material. His songs are really well thought-out and written, which makes up for his mediocre vocal ability.

His voice grates me on the nerves. Thank god Matt is singing by himself too.
