Scott has confidence in himself, that’s for sure. It actually helps to do a bit more research on him and listen to his original music to get what he says or else he’ll sound delusional to you. He is actually a very talented musician whose capabilities got limited on Idol and can write fantastic songs that sound current, memorable and have substance. He’s just speaking from personal experience. Actually, if I only judged him based on what I’ve seen on Idol, I’d also say he’s not as talented as he says he is, but I’ve seen and heard more than that.

I believe he is trying to tell the public more about himself, and in some interviews he carries the message better than in others. That Idolatry interview was the worst of all, I gotta admit. I have no idea what went wrong there.

Never liked Scott’s singing, never found him particularly funny, and can’t believe how full of himself he comes across.

I like smart, articulate people (see Desai, Anoop; Cook, David) and I’ve got MENSA members and Ivy League grads in my own family, but clearly Scott has never been told he’s not the cats pajamas at anything.

Go cure cancer, Scott. Or come up with some other important scientific/technological breakthrough, because you’re obviously a brilliant, well-educated guy. But you’ll never be anything but a mediocre musician, and surely the world is not in need of more Muzak.

I think Scott sounded great on these interviews…I don’t hear the “too confident” and “insufferable” that many of you seem to hear. I think you might need check your own filter monitor…
Scott stated a fact when he said it will be a long time before there is another Marshall scholar on AI. Face it, there has never been one before, and there will probably not ever be one again. Maybe you all don’t really know what it entails to be a Marshall and a Fulbright scholar?? It is part of the uniqueness that is Scott…very academic, very classically trained, and very unique from almost all the other contestants.
Some like to say “cough…Anoop…cough”. Come on, let’s put that in perspective! Anoop is a college grad, who had a unique major. And he plans to go for a masters (I think). I give him props for that, but so are about a million other Americans who get masters every year. On the flip side, Scott graduated from college at 19, he was a Marshall and a Fulbright scholar that year, he was a first runner up for a Rhodes, but he declined the final interview because he had accepted the Marshall, he was accepted to both Cambridge and Oxford, and to top it all off….HE WAS NAMED to USA TODAY’s ACADEMIC ALLSTARS of 2005!!! One of ONLY 20 in the nation…and possibly the only one to ever earn that honor who was NOT from an Ivy League school!! (I saw his picture on the front page of USA today and remembered him from that). I think the kid deserves to consider himself a highly acclaimed academic.
And for you that don’t seem to be able to appreciate those accomplishments, put yourself in the shoes of someone who has had a kidney tranplant and can barely walk or eat for the next few weeks, or put yourself in the spot of a blind person. Try it! Take 30 minutes and try to function with your eyes closed…just take a small amout of time to walk in his shoes, and I think you may begin to understand or have some appreciation for this absolutely amazing contestant!! I really believe they will make a movie about him some day. He will be my favorite contestant for a long time.

I guess this statement does not imply arrogance, just the fact that it is “RARE & UNUSUAL” for a Marshall Scholar to be in the pop recording industry. Going through the profile of Marshall scholars for the past 7 years and 2009 (hope I have not overlooked one of them), only Scott is MOST LIKELY to go into pop recording. Another one is LIKELY to go into it, but most probably not. And very few are into other areas/genre of music (piano, trumpet, violin, opera, composition).MOST of them (more or less 95%) are into engineering, IT, politics, international studies, medicine, military, literature, etc.

I am just trying to explain that Scott’s statement has a basis and whatever he meant by saying that, only him knows.

Scott seems like a nice guy who’s achieved a lot in the face of adversities that are hard to contemplete. However, there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance and I think Scott’s not always walking the right side of the line. This isnt’ the 1st time I’ve seen an interview where he’s stated that.

Congrats on the Marshall Scholarship Scott, we get it’s an outstanding achievement, but there’s nothing like a bit of humility *cough*Anoop*cough*

I like Scott. I like that he loves himself even if most likely nobody else will. I mean this is what we teach our children….that if you don’t love you, then nobody else will. I find Scott to be the poster child for this. I love his self-depreciating humor. I can’t say that I love his bravado so much because I find it just to be that with no basis in fact. But anyhow, Scott, if you can parlay your being blind into a career, I give you all sorts of props. If you need to tell us how amazing you are in doing so, ummm I can’t give you any credit whatsoever.

Funny bit! Scott is surprisingly full of himself! I say this because, during the show, he came across as completely unaffected, endearing and sweet. I’m sure he’s a nice man (as sure as one can be of a complete and total stranger), but LORD, he needs to dial back the intellectual snobbitude! I hope someone helps him navigate the press because his natural charm and humor could really get him far… but only if he can learn to bring back some of that unaffected demeanor.

But did you see him when Megan spoke? He knew her voice immediately – you could see the recognition in his face. That was cool!

Scott is full of unwarranted hubris and is going to be in for a shock when he realizes he’s not as good or as in demand as he seems to think. Too bad, because other than that he seems like a nice guy.
