via the LA Times:

Scott MacIntyre will return to the “Idol” stage on March 11 to sing the song “Heartstrings,” off his album of the same name, which is being released that day.

We hear that Matt Giraud, fellow Season 8 finalist, will be singing with Scott, but it won’t be the song “Heartstrings.”

Fred Bronson of  @IdolsNow reports that the duo will be duet singing Billy Joel’s “Tell Her About It”.

I guess Idol producers are making up for cutting the number from the Season 8 Idol finale!

I guess this is better than no gig, but I would love to see Matt without Scott.

  • Junior

Is this really necessary? I’d much rather hear Matt duet with that chick he released that song with.

  • gangreen29

    Poor Matt.

  • TwigLA

Good for them, but I’d rather Matt be doing one of his own songs. I’m not a fan of Scott, so his getting 2 showcases rubs me the wrong way.

  • cheese

I would rather hear Matt and Anoop sing about cakesters than listen to Scott again. Hopefully Matt can at least plug his song that’s available on iTunes.

  • kimeber

OH NOOO…Matt should do his duet “You Don’t Know Me” with Anna Wilson…arghhh I am not fond of Scott’s music, but at least MATT will be there with that great summer tour piano duo!! YAY MATT!

I love how so many season 8 idols are showing up this season! *cough*(to help save the show)*cough*

    to help save the show

    so true
well I’m t least glad they’re making up for cutting this fok the finale-I thought they wouldn’t keep that promise

so I have two options next week:watch this or watch paint dry
    I’ll choose the paint

I’m moving my post from headlines to here

*monotone* yay, scotty mac.Maybe we’ll get lucky and instead of singing,he’ll describe his lunch to us instead.

  • http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=561466&st=0 Preston

Really? Scott? What an INCREDIBLE WASTE of a spot on the show… they’ll bring back this vocal disaster of a contestant, and yet for two and a half seasons Melinda Doolittle has been watching at home from her couch?

    Unbelievable. Fo’ shame!

  • jack5791

Hmm… this is interesting. I guess the producers kept their word!

  • hicksaholic

I’m with everybody else. I love Matt- he needs the exposure. Why screw it up by putting him with Scott? Scott drives me crazy and he doesn’t sing very well.

And Preston you’re exactly right about Melinda.

  • Trina

What did we do to be punished like this? I like Matt..but ugh go away Scott.

  • weareallinnocent

    Absolutely ridiculous.

Maybe we’ll get lucky and instead of singing,he’ll describe his lunch to us instead.

    Or eat chocolate.

they’ll bring back this vocal disaster of a contestant, and yet for two and a half seasons Melinda Doolittle has been watching at home from her couch?

    Unbelievable.

Yeah, how ’bout that. And I’m not a fan (didn’t really watch at the time) but dang, she can sang. Scott… not so much.

Add me to the outcry for solo Matt.

I’m back where I started with this — absolutely ridiculous. Maybe there’s the threat of an ADA lawsuit involved, at least that would add some logic/reason to the equation. (Sorry, not intended to offend or enrage, but that’s our world folks.)

  • sbalk017

#signmattgiraud so he has a song to sing and doesn’t get stuck deuling pianos.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/luvadamlamberts-american-idol-tour-2009-washington-dc-re-cap.htm luvadamlambert

Or spend the minute and a half standing next to a book about chocolate(yes, he did that!)

  • Pam

It really stunk that the producers cut the duet at the last minute like they did on finale night but it’s really only going to be a waste of Matt’s time since he won’t be promoting his duet or any other new music on the show.

  • Tony

I was gonna reply with “but….WHY?” until I read MJs comment about it possibly having to do with last year’s finale.

  • CFIdolsfan

I don’t think Scott was that bad as a contestant, but I would have liked to have heard Matt and Anna Wilson, too. And I do agree about Melinda. Her album has done pretty well, yet it’s a shame they have not brought her back. I don’t know that she is pining about it, though. She has stayed busy, including having been at the White House, something not too many Idols can brag about.

  • http://mattgiraudfans.net 3DoorsDownFan

Urghh this makes me so mad. Matt has so many amazing original songs to sing yet he gets stuck sharing the spot light with Scott of all people. It’s like Matt is a supporting act to Scott. What is the point? I’m not even sure why Matt would agree to this? I am not going to watch this. I will wait to see Matt sing his music in April at the Gilmore Festival. Such a waste. I am so disappointed and sad.

  • http://mattgiraudfans.net 3DoorsDownFan

And what about Matt’s single that is out now? Here I was worried that he would be coming on Idol to promote his duet rather than his own music but wow this is much worse than that. Sorry I’m done now.

  • larc

Like some others, I’d much prefer Matt perform by himself. Nothing against Scott, but I honestly doubt that he made Top 13 – or even Top 36 for that matter – primarily because of his musical talent.

  • marco5ny

I’m sure Matt and Scott both have their fans but neither appeals to me at all. Before last season, it was very rare to invite back contestants that were voted off early unless they had gained a measure of success “in the real world” (like Pickler and J-Hud). Once they invited Carly and MJohns back, it seems like the floodgates were opened. Let’s hope artists like Lakisha, Melinda, Mandisa and Bucky (who all have had comparable or greater success) also get invited back.

  • csprof

Is it too much to hope that Matt will get to sing alone too, and the news just hasn’t leaked yet?

Well, at least Matt said for the first time that he had a “good label meeting” yesterday. I’m sure he’s had label meetings before, but he has never mentioned them, so I am hoping it means he is feeling confident that something is happening now. His new music is really amazing. For anyone who hasn’t heard it before, I’m linking my three absolute favorites below.

If Scott gets to sing his own song, Matt should get to sing his own song. Forget the dueling pianos which many saw on tour and make it up to them by solo exposure.

Good point, csprof. I thought about that after my earlier post. I do hope, though, that he does come back.

Agreed. And while they are at it, they should also invite back Phil Stacey. He is not doing too badly with his Christian cd, and with “Ido Gives Back” returning this season, which began with season 6, several of his songs could fall within the category of giving back and being an encouragement to someone. He, Melinda, and/or Mandisa could even come back and talk about their participation in “Come Together Now,” which is also raising funds for Haiti.

  • claudette

I think any exposure for Matt is a good thing. He’ll look great compared to the guys this year. I’m sure he’ll get his solo moments and if he does this for Idol maybe they’ll have him back for Idol gives back.

  • csprof

While I would certainly prefer to hear Matt singing one of his new songs, I think any exposure in front of millions of people is a good thing. I bet Matt will see his duet single get a boost and go back on the charts. When Sleezak plugged it a few weeks ago, it jumped back up for a couple of days.

Hoping, hoping, hoping that yesterday’s “good label meeting” is the start of something, and we’ll have good news in the next month or so.

  • http://mattgiraudfans.net 3DoorsDownFan

I agree exposure is good but still makes me sad that we won’t be seeing Matt sing HIS music especially after watching Danny Gokey tonight. Matt would have tore that stage up with I Miss You Tonight or Brand New Day. Oh well what are you going to do? I’m just going to keep on supporting him anyway I can and pray that the label meeting turns into him being signed! #signmattgiraud!

  • crys

I think, I like the way you think. Hehe!

No, really, I was thinking the same thing. Not only will he look great compared to the guys, but performing with Scott will also show who’s shining on that stage….by a long shot. I’ll take this as a positive thing.

I also wish that Matt was performing his own music, but since I can’t go to Michigan to see him perform, I’ll take what I can get. I don’t think we should be getting too upset about Matt performing with Scott. I mean, as of now, Matt really doesn’t have anything to promote, other than YDKM, but it’s actually Anna Wilson’s song, so I don’t think he’d just go on Idol to perform that. I just hope that when he releases his EP that he gets a chance to promote like Scott does.
Hopefully, if those label meetings went well yesterday Matt will have some hit music out soon enough and rip that stage (and that white piano ;) to pieces.

Scott told the latimes that many in the media felt that “tell her about it” was the high point of the tour this summer. I must have missed those articles.
Looking forward to seeing matt at least

  • HermeticallySealed

Scott told the latimes that many in the media felt that “tell her about it” was the high point of the tour this summer.

Oh, no, Scott. They were saying that they wished that they were high at that point in the show, not that it was the high point.

  • Lu

    YAY Matt!!!!!! Can’t wait!

  • cranberry

Oh well,I will watch the duet next week for sure.I like that agenda; Matt with his original music when the EP comes out. THAT would be amazing.

  • hicksaholic

    Scott’s delusional.

  • larc

Scott told the latimes that many in the media felt that “tell her about it” was the high point of the tour this summer.

Scott is probably right. The high point occurred just after the last note.

  • BootStar

Scott??? Really? FOR TWO SONGS? Why don’t they just bring back Sanjaya and William Hung too?

When are they going to have Melinda Doolittle and Bucky Covington back? Melinda is one of the most talented Idols ever, with a critically-acclaimed album, and Bucky has had a fair share of success since leaving the show as well. I’m sure there are many MANY others I can’t think of at the moment who would be better received than The Blind Guy.

Poor Matt. Maybe they’ll have him back for his duet with that jazz singer . . .

  • YankeeFan08

Scott is probably right. The high point occurred just after the last note.

LOL! How true. He’s not too full of himself, is he!

  • poster

I was thinking the same thing about the level of talent this year – most of last year’s top 10 are eons better than any of the top 24 this year. The talent level is just not up there this year. Scott (marginally) and Matt (by far) will sound a lot better than anything offered by this year’s contestants.
I’m sure neither of them have a choice as to what they’re asked to sing when they come back, but either way- how can they say no? It will be entertaining, I’m sure. I’m anxious to hear Matt’s EP when it comes out, Scott’s not so much.

  • Allison

I’d rather have Melinda and Bucky back too. They should have had Melinda on to promote her CD. I bought it and really enjoyed it. Now it’s a year old. So many people have never been brought back to Idol – Josh Gracin, Diana DeGarmo, to name 2. I hear Diana is now leaving Idol out of her Broadway bios. Can you blame her?
