Nevada,
so true. they either take shots at the show or try their darndest to get the competitors on their show. Joe Scarborough was saying all kinds of incorrect things about Taylor and finally he showed up on his show. CNN and MSNBC do anything they can to ride the idol wave and they make a lot of stuff up too. They try to get ratings from idol whether their information is true or not.

Nevada,
I just heard MSNBC say something similar to that a few days ago so either they are repeating themselves which I do not doubt because that station is awful or they are talking about Season 6. </blockquote>

It's actually from an article regarding AI4, but the same things have been said since AI2. And the MSNBC contributor, in particular, tends to repeat himself a lot.

Considering that American Idol dominates the ratings every season, it never comes as a surprise to me that Fox's competitors take shots at the show every chance they get.

As a matter of fact, yes she does.

Hi Koolmom. Now this is a good start, a Keith Urban purse. What other tidbits can you share with us? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m glad you decided to post.

Well, Dave I could tell you lots of things, but I think you owe me an apology first. While I am most certainly dazzling, I am definitely not bedazzled if you know what I mean(I have my sources you know :tongue_wink_ee:)

MJ - if you haven't already, check out the Fortunes vid of "You've Got Your Troubles" that Lisa posted near the bottom of page 4. I think the lead singer looks just like JPL from the side! (actually, I guess JPL looks like the lead singer)

Re: Kelly C.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sales for her first album. It took her nearly half a year to sell 1 million. It was her sophomore album that propelled her to superstar status. That proved she was going to have longevity in the business. </blockquote>

Nine weeks is half a year?

Kelly's "Thankful":
Week 01: 297,000
Week 02: 130,480
Week 03: 97,093
Week 04: 86,909

Week 06: 100,239
Week 07: 86,873
Week 08: 75,599
Week 09: 78,833

Nevada, you have to remember that 5 years ago, the record industry was a very different place. You could not get albums easily off the internet and digital downloads were not nearly the phenomenon that they are today. I think if Chris would have put out his album 5 years ago, with his popularity and buzz, the record would have sold 500k- 1mil in the first week. This goes for Taylor as well. Not a lot of people are buying albums anymore and especially not in the first week. </blockquote>

Kelly Clarkson's debut album "Thankful" was released on 04-15-03. Today is 03-17-07, so we have yet to pass the four-year mark in Idol sales history. That makes the "five years ago" issue a non-starter.

Then there is the suggestion that no album in the past four (or five) years has moved more than 500k in its debut week. Not true.

Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Britney Spears, and Clay Aiken all released albums in 2003 that sold more than 500k in the first week.

According to HDD, in February 2004, Norah Jones had first week sales of 1,026,875. In March 2004, Usher had first week sales of 1,087,954; second week sales were 470k, third week sales were 452k.

In May 2004, D12 had first week sales of 552k

In August 2004, Now16 sold 501k in its first week. Also in August, Tim McGraw had a 755k first week.

In November 2004, Eminim sold 737k in the first week, 927k in the second week, and 468k in the third week. Meanwhile, Shania Twain had a 530k first week, and U2 enjoyed a 838k first week's sales.

In January 2005, The Game sold 587k in the first week in the midst of the post-Christmas sales drought.

In March 2005, 50 Cent had a 1,140,638 first week; the second week's sales were at around 770k.

In June 2005, Coldplay moved 737k CDs in the first week.

In September 2005, Kanye West managed 860k in sales for week one.

In December 2005, Mary K Blige coasted to a 727k first week.

Just a sampling of artists who managed, without an assist from American Idol (except for Clay) to sell more than 500k in the past FOUR years in a market which everyone assumes cannot support these kinds of numbers.
