Thought you guys might enjoy this…or find it interesting.

Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin appeared in a couple of cameos in last night’s edition of Saturday Night Live. Also making cameos: Mark “Marky Mark” Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin.

I haven’t been watching SNL this season, but I have to say the physical resemblance between Fey and Palin really is remarkable.

To keep it tangentially related to Idol, David Cook will appear on SNL as the Musical guest on November 1.

I may post these weekly as a run up to Cook’s appearance.

ETA: Just added performances by SNL musical guest, Adele.

Videos after the JUMP…

Cold opening of the show featuring Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. The real Sarah Palin appears at the end with Lorne Michaels.

Sarah Palin “raises the roof” during weekend update!

Adele – Chasing Pavements

Adele – Cold Shoulder

These are really funny. It is truly amazing how well Tina Fey does Sarah Palin. I will withhold political and personal comments about the woman because I don’t think this is the place.

  • elisad

Oh MJ…I can talk about politics all day so I’ll keep my mouth shut. Tina has been brilliant. Adele was okey. Yeah Coldplay next week~ Then David~
(Palin was supposed to do the rap herself but she refused.)

Thanks, that was fun to watch (missed it last night as we can’t get that channel in our area right now till the station and cable company resolve their issues).

  • May

Thanks MJ! Those were both really funny! I missed them last night!

(Palin was supposed to do the rap herself but she refused.)

I’m glad she refused…that might have been painful to watch :blink_tb:

  • elisad

She might be really good at it! Heehee… Natalie Portman was brilliant.

  • mac

Regardless of politics, it is good to see that Palin has a great sense of humor. The rap was just hilarious, especially the moose! Thanks for posting that MJ.

Go David on Nov. 1st. Let the countdown begin. So excited for him.

  • Trina

So silly but when Don Pardo announced the musical guest/host for next week I started getting really excited because that reminded me that next week he’s going to say Daavidds name eeeeeeeee! :jittery_tb:

I’ve got some Adele coming up!

  • wjmtv

I really liked Adele. She has a cool voice. I was surprised to hear how young she is.

Palin’s a natural in front of the camera. As for the rest of the show, I hope they let David have a skit when he’s on. I watched the entire ep last night, and his hairdresser act was a thousand times funnier than anything that gang gave us. I can’t believe these are professional comedians. Yikes.

  • Skylark

David Cook would be great in an SNL skit.

  • Layla

No comment about Palin-as some have said, not the place for that.

Woohoo! DC on SNL in two weeks…so freakin’ awesome!

  • canadiandcfan

MJ thank you for adding the Adele performances!! She sounded (and looked!) fantastic!

Hometown glory is probably one of my fave songs ever, she is fabulous.
    Countdown to David on SNL!

  • KarenLE67

Adele didn’t do much for me. And I thought overall the show wasn’t that funny, not even the Palin bits.Anyone else excited for John Hamm next week? I hope the writing is better.

  • Layla

    Canadiandcfan,

Hometown glory is a beautiful song.

Tina Fey kills me. She’s a brilliant Palin.

    And….that’s all.

  • tinawina

I liked the rapping skit more than the opening. I didn’t think Gov. Palin was particularly funny until she was “raising the roof”. That was hilarious. But still, good for her for having a sense of humor.

    Tina Fey is brilliant. :-)

Since Palin won’t do press conferences, I’ll just pretend the one from SNL is real! :)

  • smartcookie

I don’t think there’s any way in the world it wasn’t scripted for Amy Poehler to do the rap, or that Palin was ever intended to do it. Poehler knew it too well for it to be an impromptu thing.

No comment on Palin. But Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey were great. :-)

  • LK08

smartcookie- I agree. I think Sarah was never supposed to do it. Sarah is a very good sport and a pretty cool character for going along with this.

  • sciencefan

    Thanks for sharing that mj.
I was absolutely unable to tell Tina Fey and Sarah Palin apart!!
I’m pretty sure that when Sarah Palin said she would not do the rap, that that was pre-planned as part of the skit.
Rap really isn’t as easy as it looks.
The skits were cute though, and respectful.

I was absolutely unable to tell Tina Fey and Sarah Palin apart!!

I read an interview with Tina Fey where she said her little daughter saw the real Palin on TV and said “There’s mommy!” lol.

  • http://www.myspace.com/jmomsblog J

I wonder why they didn’t have Tina Fey do the rap? :clap_tb: for Sarah Palin, she was great!!

  • Sarah

Thanks for posting these! My husband and I fell asleep and missed these bits. Like others here, I spend enough time commenting on Ms. Palin with my friends and colleagues, so no need here. But coincidentally, my daughter got tapped in her class to portray Ms. Palin in a mock political ad for school. And they’re doing it as a rap! Pretty funny.
Adele was really good. Like her a lot.

  • mar_4DC

wow, I haven’t seen SNL in ages and now I know why. The show last night was just horrible Palin or no Palin. There’s no way I can watch this show again, even for Cook. I’ll leave it to MJ to post his song(s) and spare myself the waste of an hour and a half of my life. Thank you in advance Mj.

  • Lu

SNL definitely isn’t lke it was in the good ole days… coneheads, blues brothers, landsharks, hambugga, hambugga, hambugga, no coke-pessi… sigh.

Anyone up for a chat tonight? I sure do miss those!

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I have to admit I only watched the opening bit and then switched to a documentary on Thomas Jefferson I was so bored. So thanks, MJ, for providing the video to second bit with the rap.

Lu, email me what time you want to chat and I’ll join ya!

ETA: I’m a HUGE fan of 30 Rock. I cannot wait until the new season starts. If NBC had been smart, they would have moved it up to coincide with Fey’s appearances on SNL.

  • Michelle

Sarah Palin’s the best thing that’s happened to SNL in years…and the bits with/about her were the only watchable parts of last nights ep :P I agree she’s a natural being on camera and thought she was a good sport and even kind of cute doing the “raise the roof” thing. Hopefully the other three candidates will make time to go on the show (ohh I think Nov 1 would be a good ep to choose….)

Marky Mark was just not funny. The random animals around the set were, though.

Actually I rather liked Adele too. Her sound reminds me a lot of Amy Winehouse before she got all effed up.

  • Fender

As un-funny as SNL has been of late, I did think the rap was hilarious. But, man… that show is going to be nearly impossible to watch once Amy Poehler leaves and the Tina Fey as Palin cameos stop.

pj – Yay for 30 Rock! I love that show, and can barely contain my excitement that it’s only 10 days away! I’m just going to ignore my agitation that they waited a month after everything else to give me new eps.

  • milajoy

donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s any way in the world it wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t scripted for Amy Poehler to do the rap, or that Palin was ever intended to do it. Poehler knew it too well for it to be an impromptu thing.

Yeah, the skit was done EXACTLY as it was written Amy was ALWAYS suppose to do the rap.

  • Skylark

KareLE67, I am OBSESSED with Mad Men.
Cannot wait for Jon Hamm on SNL!!

  • Deejay

Tina Fey was hilarious portraying Palin, but Palin’s cameos were kind of pointless. I was hoping she’d be a little bit more involved. But still…props to her for being a good sport and taking it like a (wo)man.
