This week in sales, rapper Future is set to open at the top of the chart. Coldplay is making hay with their Superbowl half-time performance moving up to the number 2 spot (with some nice revenue with their singles yet to be counted). Adele’s “25” is moved back to 3rd while Now 57 debuts at 4th (no alums, but Bieber is there). Elton John carpooled with James Corden to get out the news that he has a new album out and when Wiz Khalifa isn’t feuding with Kayne, he is releasing a new album at 6th. Rihanna drops like a stone to 7th from 1st in her second full week and Chris Stapleton continues to have legs. Justin is back to 9th and Elevation Worship (I’m going to guess Christian) is 10th.
Carrie Underwood and One Direction represent the singing show alumni with their own albums at 32nd and 35th. Carrie also appears on the Grammy CD with Tori Kelly at 16th. Nick Fradiani has his coronation single (and the duet he sang with Gianna last night) on the Now 56 album which is at 33rd.
Hits tells us that ZAYN will sell about 81K copies of “Pillowtalk” this week.
Billboard predicts that Lucian Grainge will be standing on stage to receive the final Grammy award on Monday and they aren’t wrong. He’s the CEO of UMG and all five Best Album nominees are from his stable (or at least are distributed by his company). Seven of the top selling albums from last year were released by UMG which had a 38.5% market share.
Kayne West is going to be mad again. Tidal couldn’t handle his album debut release very well.
