Sales News – Week Ending 01/29/16

Adele easily returns to the top of the sales and equivalent albums this chart this week with her shadow, Justin Bieber right behind at number 2 (although, he did manage to take over the top of the radio airplay chart from her today with his “Sorry” edging above her “Hello”). Megadeth (hard rockers which is obvious from their name even if they weren’t pretty famous) have the top debut of the week at 3rd followed by the annual Grammy release. Christ Stapleton shows legs for another week while David Bowie stays in the top 10 for his third week. Panic! at the Disco slides all the way from first to third with a rather high 86% drop in predicted sales. They really front-loaded last week. The Kidz keep bopping with their strangely altered lyrics at 8, while Tank (more heavy metal) and Hoodie Allen (hip-hop) round out the top 10.

Idol winners Carrie and Nick and X-Factor boy-band One Direction represent the reality singing show competitors. One Direction’s “Made in the A.M.” sits at 25th while Carrie Underwood’s “Storyteller” is currently 38th. Now 56, which features Nick’s coronation song, is at 29th.

Speaking of One Direction, Zayn Malik left the group last year and just released his first single. It has long been thought that only Harry had a chance at a career post band, but Zayn’s “Pillowtalk” racing to number one on the iTunes chart in mere hours while compressing the pop-bars like a boss will probably help record labels put a bit more faith in all five of them. You can follow his progress at kworb’s website. While there don’t forget to check out kworb’s latest addition to his charts – Spotify. He’s got daily and weekly charts from around the globe and it is quite interesting to see. Coming soon is his youtube chart. His radio charts are jam packed with fun statistics and he even has an overall AI chart. Suffice to say, I heart kworb.
