Ryan Seacrest thinks Mariah Carey Will Fit Right in At American Idol (VIDEO)

Ryan Seacrest sat down with Today show host, Matt Lauer, for a few minutes this morning to talk about new American Idol judge, Mariah Carey.

“I actually called her last night and I said, ‘So welcome to the family. I said, ‘What are you going to be like on the show? She said, ‘You know how I am: I’m very honest. I say what I’m thinking.’ I said, ‘Great. You’ll fit right in.’”

Yes, because the panel has been known for it’s brutal honest since Simon Cowell left for the X Factor.

On the continual swirl of rumors regarding who could take a seat at the judges panel, Ryan says, “I’ve heard rumors of Brad Paisley, I’ve heard rumors of Pink, I’ve heard rumors about all kinds of people. And the way that it works is we read about the rumors and about an hour before it’s confirmed I get a call saying, ‘Guess who’s on the show.’”

    Of course Ryan would say he thinks Mariah will fit in.  If he didn’t, does anybody think for even a second he would say it publicly?  After all, he’s the consummate team player.

    I like that Ryan said “She’s got that whistle registry”– and that right there is why he wouldn’t be a great judge… whistle *register. Ha!

    I don’t know what Mariah’s going to be like as a judge so I’ll refrain from judgment… she is obviously (or at least during her prime) one of the best female vocalists in the world. That’s good credibility– not sure that anyone is worth 17 mil to just sit in a chair for a couple hours every week.

    So on the mark!  We all know how J-Lo felt about Nicki Minaj so yeah, there is no chance of those two being on the same panel.  Heh

    Didn’t Pink recently say she wouldn’t do it?  I swear I saw an interview where she said she didn’t think she would even WANT to do it.

    And you know Mariah wouldn’t tolerate another diva on the panel. And Pink is the type of diva that would throw punches and cuss a beyotch out if she was crossed. Ryan would spend the entire show referring instead of hosting.

    Am I the only one who thinks that both those ladies would be professionals and probably bicker less than Cowell and Jackson did?

    I don’t remember Carey running around during the Precious Oscar campaign trying to overshadow Gabourney Sibide or Mo’Nique. And I’ve seen Pink be outright effusive about other acts.

    All that said, I agree that there are interviews where Pink said she didn’t think she’d be allowed to give honest criticism, so she wasn’t interested.  Whether that’s true or not, I like the fact that she made her objections about the show and not the contestants.

    pink gave an interview within the last week/10 days specifically stating she had no interest and wouldn’t do it.  I doubt that has changed

    I hope there’s a clause in her contract to make her on time.  Nick Cannon was interviewed saying that it probably won’t happen that she’ll be on time.

    She’s getting paid $18 million dollars to be professional and be on time.  It’s supposed to be about the kids, Mariah!  Not about you!

    I believe they would try Pink. I think Idol would love some kind of diva’s war. We never had a diva’s war in these shows until now.

    I don’t remember too well but Mariah Carey was a good mentor in season 7, wasn’t she? I know J-Lo sort of was too and we all know how her judging turned out, but I believe in Mariah a bit more. At least for now I do. :P

    Ryan is playing it cool of course but there is a lot of pressure for them to make the right choice with the other judge. Hopefully they do! :/

    I hope Idol made the right choice with her.  I’ll just have to forget what she is being paid.  The thing is to find two other judges that will balance the panel.  I’d rather have Randy do some mentoring.  I just do not want these two sitting next to each other. LOL!
