Emmy® Award-nominated Ryan Seacrest will continue as host of AMERICAN IDOL, broadcast television’s No. 1 show. Seacrest has served as host of AMERICAN IDOL since its debut on June 11, 2002. Over the past decade, he has guided the IDOL contestants and judges through each season’s incredible journey, from the first tickets to Hollywood to every star-studded finale. Seacrest has introduced every guest performer, played referee with the judges and was the first to announce and congratulate each of the winners.

“For the last 11 seasons, I’ve had the privilege to be a part of one of television’s most iconic shows. It’s been a wild ride, and I’m excited for my journey with AMERICAN IDOL to continue,” Seacrest said. “The legions of fans, amazingly talented contestants, judges, and producers, along with the hard working IDOL crew, impress me every time we go on air and make hosting the show a dream job. I especially appreciate the support and confidence of Peter Rice, Mike Darnell and the entire FOX team – as well as the support of everyone at FremantleMedia North America – and I look forward to continuing our partnership.”

“Ryan is one of a kind,” added Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “His ability to engage the viewers, keep the contestants at ease during intense moments and adapt to any situation, especially during the live shows, solidifies him as the absolute best in the business. He is an integral part of why AMERICAN IDOL is a true phenomenon, and we can’t imagine doing this show without him.”

“I am thrilled that Ryan will continue to be the face of AMERICAN IDOL. He runs the show with such expertise, warmth and charm that he makes one of the hardest jobs in television look easy,” noted Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia North America. “He is one of the best in the business and we are lucky to have him.”

“Ryan has been with AMERICAN IDOL from the very first day. I can’t imagine the show without him,” stated creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “He is the consummate host and an exemplary professional. Having Ryan continue to be a part of the AMERICAN IDOL family is great news for everyone.”

Awesome! I kinda skimmed through it, does it say for how many more years?

Ryan Seacrest – more essential to Idol than Simon Cowell.

2 more years I think – I’m so happy!  Love Ryan Seacrest!

  • Valentin432

Ryan is the face of the show at this point, he assures the continuity so please get rid of Randy next year.

  • everything

So much for all the doom and gloom this will be the final season.  Despite drops in ratings, AI still has a huge audience.  And most who make it through the process, especially those in the Top 10 usually get to do music for their careers.

    Yay Ryan!

So true.  This is great news!  He is just so much better than Steve Jones, Carson Daly, Oprah, Alex Trebek, Morton Downey Jr., Ricki Lake, Judge Judy etc.  Well, maybe not Trebek (but only when he had the ‘stache)

    YES!!! Thank you American Idol!!!
Ryan Seacrest is so essential to the show. I am so happy TPTB realize that.

2 year deal according to THR and he didn’t have to take a pay cut.

the show would not work without him.pay the man what ever he wants he’s worth it!

He is the best at what he does.  It’s such a niche job.  He found it, or it found him.  Sometimes I still think of Dunkelman.  But what I think is “Oh, Dunkelman.”

Thank goodness! Ryan really is the most important part of American Idol. Glad he’ll be sticking around.

Somewhere out there Brian Dinkleman is shaking his fists!

Oh, great, now I’ll have to devote time two nights a week for at least two spring semesters, next year and the year after! Good thing this is the only TV show I watch besides the news. (I’m currently into “Glee,” but I plan on quitting it when college starts. There won’t be time.)

So its a given now that idol will last through Season 13 :)

Lets get rid of Randy though and get a new buzz worthy judge, and maybe that new judge can help the ratings at least stay stable. JLo and Steven helped the Season 10 ratings a lot imo.

I really didn’t think Seacrest was all that until I saw Steven Jones on X Factor; now I really appreciate Ryan. Lady Seacrest is the heart of the show and keeps that ship sailing; along with Deb, the long suffering Idol stage manager.

After Season 13 they could always replace Seacrest with his doppleganger from this year’s auditions lol

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Ryan. He really is our generations Dick Clark. I used to be indifferent to him, but over the years I loved watching his interactions with the performers and the judges. This article alone is a resume if he ever needs to apply for a new job lol

I agree! Ryan is amazing. I didn’t realize how great he was until I saw the other singing contest judges! Ryan needs an Emmy! Wish those voters would wake up and realize Ryan is doing everything he does LIVE!!!!

I always gave Ryan credit for doing an exceptional job hosting this show although i must say i thought Ryan could be pretty obnoxious in his exchanges with Simon (and vice-versa) so i appreciate him much more with Simon gone.  Now if we could just replace Randy with somebody who is actually relevant…

Good news for Idol fans! Whew!!  :)

Thank goodness!  I was wondering when we would be getting absolute confirmation of this one way or the other.  This show would have been crazy to have let Ryan slip through their fingers.  He’s one of the biggest reasons AI has been able to last as long as it has!

    Thanks mj!

Sorry if I can’t jump on the Ryan Seacrest bandwagon. He is fine as a host but to say he is “great” by comparing him to cardboard cutout Steve Jones does not make sense. A better comparison is to other hosts who have been on the job for a number of years. I find Tom Bergeron and Cat Deeley to both be better hosts than Ryan. Tom is more naturally and spontaneously funny and Cat warmer and more genuine with contestants. Mario Lopez is also very charming and has a great rapport with the contestants. When Ryan was having his contract spat with Fox, I was hoping they’d replace him with Cat. I think she would make it a cooler, sexier show.

I can’t imagine Idol without him and I’m glad we won’t have to endure that. He’s the gold standard of reality show hosts. He truly is what sets Idol apart from the rest. They all have contestants that sing, they all have hot judges, but nobody else has Ryan.

  • sdmama

Good news! I completely agree! They can have completely different judges next year, as far as Ryan is hosting it is OK, and it makes no difference to me.  (Can we have different judges?)

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/GEE7ION6BPL2BYNNHADS6AVCJM wutwut

    Good for Ryan! Congrats.

  • Kirsten

Yay! Watching these other singing competition hosts struggle with things that Ryan does so effortlessly makes me appreciate him even more. He’s the true glue of the show. Any of the judges can be replaced, but he would be a tough act to follow-up.

  • Anonymous

This had to happen. Ryan is the perfect host and he makes it look so easy (unlike Steve Jones, for example)

  • Anonymous

I am so glad.  He is a big part of the Idol tradition, and it would just not be the same show without him.

  • http://twitter.com/cindydesigns Cindy

American Idol without Ryan Seacrest is just plain old scary!  Do not even want to think about that.  Thank goodness he’ll be back! :)

  • Anonymous

Yay, Ryan is the glue that holds this cheesy show together. It wouldn’t be the same without him.

  • Anonymous

I think it’s more like Ryan is the Cheese Whiz that holds the show together ;)

I won’t even compare him to other hosts… all I know is that AI would be nothing with Sprinkles!! o/

  • Anonymous

Yessss.  Could not imagine this show without him.  In a weird way he’s like a TV comfort zone.  Know what I mean?

  • Anonymous

the year ryan doesn’t sign on, cancel the show. he is american idol. the show wouldn’t be the same without him and you want the show to exit while it still has some dignity.

Amazing host with an amazing heart, that’s Sea-boy!

  • Anonymous

I don’t know whether Ryan is in fact the best reality show host, since I don’t watch any other reality show, but he is as much a part of the show as the instantly recognisable theme music. It wouldn’t feel the same without him. Even if the show miraculously replaced the panel with half decent judges, allowed the contestants to sing really interesting songs and stopped manipulating the viewers and playing favourites, it would feel like something essential was missing.

  • Anonymous

Very wise decision. Ryan Seacrest IS one of the best! :-)

  • sf3456

Seacrest returns as host of Idol. Was there ever any doubt?

  • Anonymous

Good, they need to keep Seacrest and Iovine and zap the three buffons at the judging panel.

  • Anonymous

Ryan did have a season where he was acting totally bizarre.  Was that season 9?  The excuse was he had too much on his plate and was running on fumes.  Anyway, he came back the next season his old self.  If I had to replace Ryan it would be with Cat Deely who has many of his great qualities.

  • larc

No current judge is worth as much as Ryan is to the show, so he should be paid more than any of them.  Maybe at least twice as much based on comparative value.

  • Anonymous

guess that could partially explain his total dis of the S9 winner in the audience at S10 finale (perhaps he forgot he was there that season)  …sorry…..I’ll never forgive him for that

  • Anonymous

Ryan learned and idolized Dick Clark, who knew to never give up on a good gig, hence hosting New years eve forever … Ryan is too smart to give this up …

  • http://www.facebook.com/masewallace Mase Wallace

randy’s not going anywhere,he’s as important to idol as ryan, they are the last of the originals

  • Listening

I wouldn’t of given him 15 million a year that just sounds crazy he’s not a celebrity like JLo or Steven. I think Simon leaving and and Idol still being successful shows it’s not about the judges and what not. It’s the format and the contestants. Oh well they can afford it, wish that was me though. Man that dude is so sticking rich. It’s incredible what he turned a hosting job into.

One more thing yeah he’s way better than Robot Steve Jones and boring Carson Daly but that doesn’t mean he warrents that kind of money. The fact that those shows were successful w/ those hosts is just another indication it’s not down to the hosts. Yeah people complained but they still watched. Oh well like I said they have the money to waste so have at it.

  • Anonymous

I agree he is the best & literally ‘any’ show would be fortunate to have him in this type of capacity……..

  • http://twitter.com/mcdeallover Sunny Mc

I so agree with this.  AI could pay Cat Deely $5 million/yr and she would be just as good as Ryan, if not better.

  • Anonymous

American Idol is where it is because of its format.
    Nobody is essential.
Just because Ryan is the only significant piece standing (Randy is actually a liability) does not mean he is the reason the show is still (barely) number 1.
A waste of money if you ask me.
