Actually, the show has been cast with a reasonable steady stream of contestants with south Asian and southeast asian heritage in recent years, Anoop Desai being the most recent example.

I loved American Bandstand just as much for Dick Clark as the dancers and the music and the musical guests. Given some of the trainwrecks called Reality Shows I actually find Keeping up with the Kardashians better than most. But maybe it is just because I like that family - poor Bruce Jenner. Did anyone deserve raises? Compared to CEOs of failing automotive companies and other asundry corporations, who got far higher salaries and bonuses for losing money. Ratings may be down, profits may be down but the 19 machine is still raking in profits, not losing money. We'll see in the fall once it's actually competing against established network programming. But, I think Ryan, Tom, and Cat are all excellent at what they do.
