RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Six: Meet the Queens (VIDEO)

Start Your Engines!

RuPaul has posted Meet the Queen videos for all the announced contestants for Season Six of RuPaul’s Drag Race!

I’m putting the video for Adore Delano (our own Danny Noriega!) here. But since Logo hates me and my embedding video attempts, I’m just going to link to the playlist for the other queens.

Adore Delano

Adore is a definite character. I’m seeing the sassiness that I really liked in Danny Noriega reflected in her. I’m also getting a little Manila Luzon in her — not in terms of style, but in energy.

April Carrion

This season’s Puerto Rican Queen. Puerto Rico must be a hot bed of drag, because the Latina presence is always strong on the show. Many of the PR queens struggle with the language barrier. April seems to be fluent, which is good. But the culture gap might be a problem. Sometimes the PR queens stumble with Anglo references that they don’t get, or Latino references that we don’t get.

Ben DeLaCreme

I heard of Ben DeLaCreme as a Jinkx Monssoon cohort, so I’m excited to see another Seattle queen on the show. Unfortunately, I’m getting a huge Jinkx 2.0 vibe. Their voices are so similar and so are the mannerisms. I hope Ben can differentiate herself from Jinkx and make her own unique impression on the show. Ben is very polished. I suspect Jinkx may have given her some tips about painting for the camera.

Bianca del Rio

Wow. Bianca is very painted. She calls herself “Joan Crawford meets “Bozo the Clown.” She says she’s looking forward to the “reading” challenges. So, she falls into the more camp/comedy side of drag. She’s also setting herself up as the bitch of the season, which isn’t really a winning strategy. Maybe she’s aiming for third place.

Courtney Act

I’m very impressed with Courtney Act. I don’t know what her performance skills are, but she could easily pass as a woman. She seems very intelligent and poised. She comes from Australia, where she was at the top of her field. I fully expect her to make Top Three.

Gia Gunn

Another perennial slot is the Asian queen, which Gia Gunn fills. She claims to have a Kabuki background. Kabuki is a Japanese theater form in which female characters are traditionally played by men, so it is a form of drag. I’m a bit worried for Gia because she talks about want to expand her world and improve her techniques. As Detox said last year, “This isn’t RuPaul’s School for Girls.”

Joslyn Fox

She looks a lot like Kristin Chenowith, so I’m hoping she makes it to the Snatch Game. I’m not hopeful about her making it much farther than that.

Kelly Mantle

Kelly is very dignified, and I think she has a lot of acting experience, because I happened to see her demo reel on youtube, and she seems to have beat out Willam and Shangela for quite a few transgender roles on TV. I hope that’s a help to her, but I’m worried. She says she wants to learn how to sew on the show. Word of advice: The first challenge is always a sewing challenge. Learn to sew before you audition.

Laganja Estranja

This is one of Alyssa Edwards’ drag daughters and very anxious for a dance challenge. Very fierce, but I don’t know what else she has to give.

Magnolia Crawford

This queen is both Seattle and LA. She moved from the NW about a year ago (at the time of filming), which would mean she’s probably not that well known yet the LA scene. I’m not sure how long she’ll last, but there’s something I really like about her look and her attitude. She doesn’t seem to be taking things too seriously.

Milk

Another camp queen. She’s the first one to make me laugh. However, she seems a little green. That’s not an overwhelming disadvantage (Sharon and Jinkx were both a bit unpolished), but it’s not easier to get through those later rounds if you don’t have experience and versatility.

Miss Darienne Lake

I hate to call her another Delta Work just because she’s big, blonde, and funny. But I do see a similar look and sense of humor. Right now, I’d say she got Delta’s funny and Roxxxy’s moxie. I like her.

Trinity K Bonet

Another fishy girl. She has a stage mom, which I find hilarious. Sadly, her mom is ill, so she’s doing the show for her! Built in backstory! Unfortunately, I don’t think she’ll last that long. Now unless she’s got some performance skills she’s not talking about.

Vivacious

This is a club kid from back when RuPaul was coming up. She describes her look as Lee Bowery, which makes her less about looking like a woman and more about looking like a fabulous, androgynous fashion-plate. I love it. I don’t think she’ll win, but I see her lasting a good long time.

So, those are the queens! Go look at the videos and tell me who you think will reach the top three!
