RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7 — Episode 13 – Recap

Episode 13 – RuCap Realness

It’s time for the season recap! Where RuPaul and World of Wonder remind us of everything that happened up to this point, as if we haven’t been obsessing over every minute of it for weeks.

The format this year is “Investigative Reporting.” Actually, it’s fashion magazine covers. There are fake covers for each of the Top Three. Ginger’s on the cover of Glamour Toad. Pearls magazine is called Zzzzz. Violet’s is Cinch’d!

There are countdowns galore, each one introduced by focusing on an article title on RuPaul’s magazine cover. Because, of course there’s there a glamorous cover photo of RuPaul. The countdowns cover most of the season’s catchphrases, outstanding runway looks, and memorable moments. Commentary is supplied by some of the most popular past queens. Jujubee and Raven, from Season 2, are the longest-lasting commentators. Raja’s the only Season 3 queen. Latrice and Sharon Needles represent Season 4, Alaska, Jinkx, and Alyssa show up from Season 5, and Bianca and Adore are the Season 6 additions.

The best countdown are the three “honesty” moments. They show Violet ragging on Michelle, Katya turning to Fame for sobriety support, and the Pearl/RuPaul staredown.

In addition, Raja and Raven give a rundown of the best and worst runway looks. Raja’s favorite is Katya’s sharknado outfit, while Raven likes Kennedy’s leather and lace look, and Violet’s Hello-Kitty-steering-wheel dress. The worst look? Kennedy’s chicken-horse catsuit.

There’s a special segment where Bianca reads a number of the season’s queens, starting with Tempest DuJour’s entrance.

Some new information: RuPaul tells the origin of the phrase “She already done has heresies.” (It came from a fast food server after someone tried to take a second bag of fried chicken.) Pearl gives the official spelling of “Flazéda.” Trixie is apparently well-endowed. Michelle and Ross really fought about Max’s (lack of) versatility. Demi Lovato never poops. Never.

The last two segments focus on the Top Three queens and the premiere of the “Born Naked” music video. Ginger is summed up as “strong tea” (for her snarky commentaries), versatile (for her acting and singing), and having a heart. Raja is excited to finally see a big girl in contention for the crown. Pearl’s is praised for “coming out of her shell” and having a high-fashion sensibility. Violet is called “a bitch with a heart of gold,” with Adore and Sharon pointing out that her bitchiness has no malice. Also, her aesthetic is astounding.

Finally, the music video is shown. The dance, which supplied the most backstage drama, is barely there on the screen. All we really see — even from RuPaul — is someone shifting their weight from one foot to another, while waving their arms in the air. But there is a cute montage with the Top Three running in and out of changing rooms in various runway looks. It’s sort of like a Monkees’ musical interlude.

So, that’s it for the recap. Next we’ll have the finale and RuPaul will crown another winnah!

Here’s a question to ponder while we wait. For those of you who have seen previous seasons, how do you think this one stacks up? What’s your favorite season among all of them? Bonus question: Do you like the new Untucked format?
