Rihanna Set to Perform on American Idol Finale

Press release from FOX announcing Rihanna as a musical guest on the finale.  She’ll perform her latest single “Where Have You Been” on the “Grand Finale” set for Wednesday May 23 at 8 pm on FOX.

The singer appeared on results shows on both Season 9 and Season 10.

Both Tuesday’s Final Performance show and Wednesday’s Finale will take place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Global superstar Rihanna will perform her latest smash hit “Where Have You Been” on the AMERICAN IDOL Grand Finale Wednesday, May, 23 (8:00-10:07 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX, when the newest winner is crowned. The Grand Finale celebration also will feature additional performances by some of music’s biggest artists.

AMERICAN IDOL will host the series’ two-night grand finale from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE Tuesday, May 22 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) and Wednesday, May 23 (8:00-10:07 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. After weeks of performing on the AMERICAN IDOL stage, the two remaining finalists will perform live Tuesday in front of a theater audience of more than 7000 as well as millions of viewers watching at home. Then, on Wednesday night, at the end of a two-hour music celebration, host Ryan Seacrest will announce the next AMERICAN IDOL.

With only three performance shows left in the season, tune in next week, Wednesday, May 9 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), when the Top Four – Hollie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez – return to the IDOL stage to sing for America’s votes on a “California Dreamin’”-themed performance show.

Don’t miss the live results show the following night, Thursday, May 10 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), when the Top Three finalists are announced and get set for their hometown visits to see family, friends and fans. In addition, global superstar and AMERICAN IDOL judge, Jennifer Lopez, will perform her hit new song, “Dance Again.” Season Seven AMERICAN IDOL winner David Cook also returns to the IDOL stage to perform “The Last Song I’ll Write For You.”

“Where Have You Been,” from Rihanna’s Island Def Jam album “Talk That Talk,” released last November, is the artist’s latest single. Rihanna made Billboard history last year, when “We Found Love,” another single off of “Talk That Talk,” became her 11th No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 and her 20th Top 10 hit. She collected her 20 Hot 100 Top 10 singles faster than any other solo artist – six years and four months –and places second only to the Beatles. Additionally, “We Found Love” gives Rihanna her 16th No. 1 Billboard Dance single.

AMERICAN IDOL is produced by 19 Entertainment, a division of CKX, Inc. and FremantleMedia North America. The series is created and executive-produced by Simon Fuller, CEO, XIX Entertainment, and executive-produced by Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia North America; Ken Warwick, Executive Producer, FremantleMedia North America; and Nigel Lythgoe, CEO, Nigel Lythgoe Productions.

See what happens every Thursday when the show ends, but the cameras keep rolling, as the eliminated finalist says an emotional goodbye and exits the IDOL stage. Too bad she’s not doing Birthday Cake on Idol. That would have been epic. Heh.

Whoopee!  Another fog and smoke enshrouded over-produced sensory blasting S&M inspired performance, meant to primarily mask a weak vocal, that are now a dime a dozen on these finales and award shows.

    Predictable.  Meh.

I’m guessing Bieber will also be since he has a new single.

  • janae gibbs

    Sigh. Jlo performing, why?

I long for the days when music wasn’t enhansed with autotune, lipsync, and manufactured glamour.  Personally I could care less to see  Rihanna  doingd anything.  Her performances as well as Nikki M are awful.  Bring back some past Idols!  Can’t wait to hear David Cook.  Now that is singing!

maybe she will sing with joshua too.  She has tweeted about him before.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Because it’s probably part of her contract, she’ll be promoting her upcoming tour with Enrique Iglesias, but it’s mostly because she’s managed by Simon Fuller. lol

    I’ll be skipping over this.

She was horrible when she performed on XF!

Ewww.  I sure hope this isn’t an indication of what the finale is going to be like this year.

RiRi’s team has done a great job of picking singles for her, but this new one is really weak. Maybe the album doesn’t have much to choose from??

Adele performed on DWTS but never on Idol which is unfortunate since she can actually sing as opposed to the antics of this chick.

  • teacup

    YAY!!! I love her. :D

Well I can’t say I’m jumping up and down tm Randy Jackson.  And unlike Randy, I have jumped up an down recently, lol.

Yuck. I have no desire to see Rhianna on anything. I want to see more previous Idols come back to perform!

A few years ago Rhianna would not have been caught dead on AI. Do I want to see her lip sync. Not so much. Bring back the Alumni AI!!!

  • Anonymous

Rihanna doesn’t lipsynch. See SNL last week.
