TMZ is reporting that sources close to the Idol production say there was “serious talk” of a “clean sweep” of the judges panel, but it was decided to keep a connection to the original panel. Therefore, Randy Jackson was spared and will reportedly join Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez on the Judges panel for Season 10.

Ellen Degeneres resigned from the judges table on Thursday, and reportedly Kara DioGuardi has been fired.

Also, the Aerosmith tour will continue even if lead singer Steven Tyler joins the judges panel

So check it out dawg, maybe this near-death experience for you, for me will serve as a wake up call for Randy to stop phoning it in.

  • Jx223

I am glad they decided to keep Randy.

  • SpenserJ

LOL MaryS-NJ, I can’t say it any better than that. So, I’ll just leave it at “ditto” :) .

  • koshka

    Ohhhh Sooooo close.

  • bean99

I never thought I’d say this but if it’s true about JLo and ST then I’m not sure about watching the show. I so don’t care about their opinions that if I watch it will be to f/f through their comments just like we did the last season or 2 with Paula. Hoping it’s all just a bad rumor.

I’m also hoping that not having Simon around will cause Randy to start stepping up.
But it’s also the last year on his contract, so he might phone it in even worse, especially if he decides he’s not cool with the new line up….

ohh why they want to keep Randy. Randy is as useless as Ellen. I hate Kara, at least she has better opinion than Randy. Please fire ryan Seacrest too.

I agree. I think Randy has some good advice to give, but sometimes Simon’s opinion would overshadow it, since there was this idea that Simon’s opinion was always the correct one.

I hope Randy doesn’t phone it in; maybe sitting next to JLo will keep him more alert. All that eye candy….

I’m also glad they’re keeping Randy. I think the connection to the original judging panel is important.

Paula was sharper on her last contract year so maybe there is hope for Randy.

All of them are capable of giving valid, constructive criticism (since they can watch/listen to the rehearsals) in a live situation. It’s whether or not they have the inclination to make the effort or “permission” from the producers.

They should have some sort of rotation system of who’s going to be lucid each week. That way they can still manipulate but give the appearance of credibility. Last year’s judging was one of the worst.

The more I think about it Steven Tyler is all wrong. First, he’s not photogenic….he’s not sexy….and he’s 62 y.o…..what does he know about “modern” pop music?

I agree w/ Ovenmitt – Randy was overshadowed by Simon…now maybe he can sit in Simon’s seat and be more real.

  • DarkGlamour17

That’s terrible that they wanted to get rid of Randy. :( I might watch but if I do I’ll probably catch up when they hit the top 10. (unless some guy is cute) LOL ;)

and he’s 62 y.o…..what does he know about “modern” pop music?

Just because people get older it doesn’t mean that they can’t still be interested in “modern” stuff. I’m reading a novel where one character says to another: “your immaturity is showing” when they are discussing older peeps and the character disses someone over 40.

When I think back on my life and realize how disconnected I was at twenty and really knew nothing about anything and just regurgitated the words of others because it was the hip and with-it thing to do I become ever more thankful that I have reached an age where I can think for myself and have a little bit of background to make some informed decisions about things such as music, etc. If I believed much of anything that someone under twenty said to me I would be in a world of hurt.

Tess… this is totally off topic but your avatar is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen! :) Is that your sweet pup?

Thank you….yup, my last baby and she is 11. Over the last 20 years I’ve raised 2 dalmations, 2 black cockers, 2 goldies, and had a boxer. (and now I’m teary eyed).

Paula was sharper because they brought aboard Kara. She suddenly had to compete and show she was the better judge.

Randy Jackson Was Almost A Casualty

In this case “almost” isn’t good enough. Randy is terrible and should be gone.

  • Grammie Kari

I think this is an excellent analysis of what happened. Randy was very supportive of Siobhan and liked the fact that she was different. He gave her many compliments, but all some remember is what Simon said about ther wail (scream) at the end of the song, and that he didn’t like the outfit she wore. He couldn’t even recognize butterflies.

With Simon gone, I believe Randy has the capabilities to step it up. I also think there may be a Hip Hop theme this year which Randy will embrace. (No rap music, please.)

To consider Randy Jackson an Idol judge is akin to considering Ed McMahon a judge on the tonight show back in the Carson days. He’s nothing but a glorified sidekick.

  • luval

I’ll never forget, though when Randy said “I like this guy”. You know who I am talking about.

    Sanjaya? ;)

She is beautiful. She reminds me of my sweet golden that I lost about 7 years ago. I’m teary eyed too.

    “Kara DioGuardi has been fired.”

    Took long enough. lol

Glad they kept Randy though. He can be obnoxious sometimes but if you filter out all of the “dawgs”, I find that he usually knows what he’s talking about. Plus, he’s the only remaining judge that has been there since Day 1. The show doesn’t need a COMPLETE makeover.

And regarding the whole Steven Tyler thing….I really don’t know what to say about that. Completely left field for me.
