Eliminated American Idol finalist, Skylar Laine, had a little reunion with Randy Jackson on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night.

Skylar sat in with Rickey Minor and the Tonight Show band, while Randy talked some Idol on the couch.

Skylar says she’s going to miss Idol…and she’s NOT going to miss it. She’s relieved to have “the weight of the world” off her shoulders.  Her first singout was “Gunpowder and Lead.”

Season 11′s Top 5 is the  BEST EVAH he tells Jay, a  little mini rundown of the remaining 4 contestants with Jay.  Randy’s critiques, as Jay held up photos, was pretty much what you’d expect.

Holly Cavanagh is peaking at the right time, He thinks Joshua Ledet could bring R&B back and has a shot at winning. Phil Phillips is unique and also has a shot at winning.  Jessica Sanchez could maybe win.

To summarize:

Phil: Could win
Joshua: Could win
Jessica: Could maybe win
Hollie: —-

Randy was very tactful when asked about The Voice. He says the market is becoming flooded with singing competitions, but at this point, there is room for everybody.

Sometimes i wonder why some people who don’t like the style of certain artists but still watch their performances and offensively criticize them with the same words and arguments over and over again ;p

For me i like Joshua, Jessica, Hollie and Skylar with a different reason. honestly i can’t imagine of purchasing Joshua and Jess album because i’m not a big fan of RnB/gospel but i still respect them as a singers. Hollie is good singer with endearing personality but sometimes boring to watch, is it a big deal? not for me. But i still can’t figure out her genre, i don’t know what kind of music of her album. And Skylar, i love her personality, her stage presence, her fearless attitude and i can imagine purchasing her album because i love country music. Is she the best singer? No. but called her horrible singer, and sick of her fans to like her as ‘spitfire performer’?.. Lol oh well.. Even i really don’t like PP, but i’m not offensively commenting his performances with rude words in every thread. But it’s just me i think. And sometimes people love singer as performer, not just because of their voice on mp3 player. Is it really crime to like Skylar because she’s great performer?

Actually, the perfect female county AI alumn for me would be a mixture of Lauren and Skylar:

Give me Lauren’s beautiful tone of voice and soulfulness, mixed with Skylar’s fearlessness and spitfire personality.

I think with Skylar leaving the competition, another spot of colour
in a for me not etremely colourful troupe to begin with will be gone.

That being said, in the end it is always the “voice” that wins with
me, I have always seen Lauren’s potential and she didn’t disappoint me
showing incredible growth since leaving Idol and having a very good
    album out.

I think Skylar has a decent voice (especially liked her “Where do
broken Hearts go” rendition), but none that make *me* jumping up and
down. ;) I’ll give her music a listen if she is getting something out,
but that’s about all I can say for now.

The fairest comment in this thread. Thank you :)

I have seen Taylor Hicks in concert and he’s great.  Clay Aiken entertains as well with interactions with the audience.  Adam Lambert is so professional, so there’s no doubt he’s great in concert.  If a former Idol has a GOOD voice and interacts with their audience – that’s a step in the right direction.  Just my 2 cents.

I’m not getting offensive.  I have seen harsher comments on here about other contestants, for example, Phillip.  As I understand the rules here, you can criticize the artists, just not each other.  I am concerned with the Skylar so called “spitfire” stuff everywhere, not specifically here, because I feel voice is being ignored for so called “performance.” She was overpraised all season while people with greater voices were not.   This is my whole point.

  • Blower

So do you think 13 standing ovations to Joshua from Judges weren’t considered as overpraised? called Jessica as a best singer in america wasn’t overpraised? called PP the best musician wasn’t overpraised? and some of PP performances were pitchy but judges didn’t notice that even this is a ‘vocal’ competition. All of them are overpraised, not just Skylar. Even i admit, my favorite from last season Lauren had breathing issues sometimes but judges didn’t recognize that, and she’s not a best technical singer too.. the judges are always useless since last season IMO and i’m not gonna questioning that..

and if this corny show is always vocal talent so why Clay, Mandisa, Melinda, Adam, Crystal and Pia weren’t the winner from their season respectively?

  • BonnieDee

No I don’t think Joshua is overpraised.  I think he’s a special talent.  One in a million who is going to be one of the most successful idols ever.  Phillip was overpraised, but not lately.  Jessica was called ONE of the best singers in America, not THE best, which I think is true.  As far as last year, I remember Lauren getting some criticism, especially from Jimmy.  And as far as why so and so wasn’t the winner, you are getting into the topic of voting and not judges criticism.  Voting is what it is because of the power texters for the most part.

The definition of overpraised part is opinion and subjective.

Joshua is talented singer from the show but Kelly, Carrie, Jenhud, Melinda, Adam were too but they didn’t get 13 standing ovations from judges in a past.. and i don’t think Joshua would have a successful career as Kelly, Carrie and Daughtry even i’d be surprise if his album reach a gold number.

And Jessica are technically best singer from this season.. but called her one of the best singer in america? even i can mention 5 names contestants who have better vocal ability from past seasons than her and idol aren’t the whole america.

Last week was the worst week of PP and still judges praised his performances.

As i remember, the judges criticized Lauren in top 13 week but after that they always praised her performance even she had breathing issues. And Jimmy just criticized Lauren in top 5 week because she didn’t hit the high note part when she sang Unchained Melody.

”‘Does Alycia Keiys, Usher, Chris Brown, Neyo, Jennifer Hudson, Lionel Richie, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, among others come to mind?’

“There’s a big difference between them and Jessica. ”

Of course, there’s also a big difference between every one of them …. and every other one of them ….

We’re talking about a pretty wide variety of performers here. Not sure whether that list tells us anything at all about whether some new performer in the same broad genre is or is not viable.

If we’re talking about Jessica’s “lack of personality,” for example. Well, I recall a heck of a lot of people not being very thrilled with JHud’s personality in the early going, either.

And if we’re talking about a style of singing….Well, Mary J and Jill Scott … uh, not the same style. And I know people who love one and can’t stand the other.

All I think we know now is that R&B is a viable, current genre. How Jessica develops and what kinds of songs she get will tell the tale about the future, I think. I don’t think we have the information right now to even begin to guess, frankly.

You say Skyler screams and it’s not good, but Joshua also screams and he’s “one in a million” – contradictory if I might say so.  Joshua has been overpraised more than any of them and certainly didn’t deserve all that Standing O’s, and whether or not he wins, I seriously doubt he’ll be anywhere near as successful as the previous winner.

“I’m just curious how many know who is considered to be the best former Idol in concert? Any idea why”

I saw Daughtry a couple of years ago when he was touring with Bon Jovi.  He was really good.  I haven’t seen any of the others but I’ve heard that Siobhan is fantastic in concert.  That wouldn’t surprise me.

I thought it was pretty obvious the difference between those artist and Jessica.  Let me spell it out.  They are black.  Jessica is not.  It’s going to be near impossible to sell her as a straight up R&B act.  Even as a “cross over” artist, I don’t see it happening.

  • BonnieDee

Joshua uses finesse in his vocals.  Skylar screams because she can’t hit the high notes and there is no finesse at all.  That’s the difference.

Either Randy is the most stupid person ever or he really wants Hollie to win…

  • Blower

Joshua uses finesse when he sings.  Skylar straight out screams because
she can’t hit the notes she is trying to reach, and there is no finesse
at all. Joshua has a captivating voice. Skylar’s vocal tone is
    downright ugly
    IMO.  That’s the difference.

All of the bold parts are sound subjective.

Skylar didn’t have MAJOR pitch issues when she was hitting the high notes and i think not many of posters here mentioning her pitch issues when she performed. Hollie had pitch issues in a past performances, PP had pitch issues too. Heck even Joshua who you considered as ‘one in a million’ wasn’t really perfect in term of pitch and ability of singing.

You don’t like tone of Skylar voice is your opinion and i respect that. but Many people like her voice just fine.. so…

Different strokes for different folks.  I love Skylar’s voice and personality and do not care for Joshua, but I don’t go striking him down.

  • escape

Skylar really has the best personality of all the girls.  I can she how she will be really fun in live shows.  The worse for me is Jessica.  Boring.  Josh has the worse personality of the guys.  Again, boring.   Of course the best personality of the guys is Heejun.

    I totally agree!  :)
