When the ladies of The View asked Randy Jackson, when he dropped by the ABC talker on Friday,  if he’ll be returning to American Idol next season, he answered yes in a way I didn’t find entirely convincing. Hm.

Maybe Randy is staying, but moving into a mentor position as reports have suggested.

What do you think?  Does Randy’s yes really mean yes here? Or does the Dawwwgg’s body language suggest there is more to the story that has yet to be revealed?

Maybe Randy is staying, but moving into a mentor position as reports have suggested.

Hopefully. I think its best for the show to ax him from the judging position.

I don’t know that Randy would be out promoting Idol if they are going to fire him or he’s leaving.  I agree though, he didn’t seem to answer the question as I expected.  It’s like he has a secret he’s not going to share with us.  Maybe he’ll be a mentor?

I think he would do great as a mentor instead of a judge.

I hope he’s moving to mentor. Otherwise this is the worst news of the entire American Idol hooplah. For me, anyway. Haha

Seeing Whoopi made me realize that she would be ideal on all counts.  She sings, she’s opinionated, smart, funny, she’s all good things rolled into one.  Of course, there is a small obstacle…she has a job.

He will stay in what capacity who knows? If he helped broker the Mariah deal probably in whatever capacity he chooses!

I don’t understand why he’d go on there then look so unprepared for the question, stammering, hemming and hawing. Would have been much better to laugh and say “you’ll just have to tune in to find out” or something. My take is he’s definitely not going to be a judge based on this video tho. I guess he took the View to keep himself looking popular and in demand.

Of course he can’t say anything.  That would take all the buzz out of the judging reports. Plus, I would think that everyone involved can’t say anything until all the contracts are finalized and signed.

PLEASE just fire him! He’s no help and is just plain annoying!

  • chessguy99

That response was less than enthusiastic. Leads me to think that perhaps Randy remaining on the show is tied to if he is able to deliver Mariah. Say, Mariah signs as a judge, Randy is kept on as a “mentor/consultant”. No, Mariah may mean no Randy.

Yes…hesitant…he is either waiting for a good offer (why would Idol consider increasing his contract $$ when he is not worth a pittance?)–or he will be moving to another postion of less significance and shoved into the background–where he belongs. So probably a demotion to ‘mentor emeritus’, as has been been reported. Hopefully, the idols will know better to ignore his ‘simpletonistic’ advice

    Just leave, Randy.

Joy Behar says everyone wants Randy Dawg to stay. Obviously she hasn’t watched Idol or read this blog or Twitter.

  • http://twitter.com/MikhailXO MichaelG (MikhailXO)

Really? He can’t spot talent, he cannot deliver credible, useful advice…how would he be a “great” as a mentor? Me confused!

Judging by all the hemming and hawing Randy was doing, I’m not entirely convinced he’ll be sitting on the judging panel next season.  In fact, it’s possible he’s no longer on the show.   It’s not what he’s saying, it’s what he isn’t saying.  As some have suggested, he’s probably not at liberty to say very much at the moment and even if he’s no longer on the show, he wasn’t exactly going to appear on the View and trash AI.  In all honesty, he’ll probably come back next season in a more behind the scenes type role possibly as a mentor.

During the last season Randy gave the most credible critiques, granted that’s pretty easy when you’re paired w/ Steven whose comments  for the most part consists of rambling and baffling utterances and Jlo’s giggling ignorance intermingled w/ sweeties.

So yeah though most performances were wonderful for the judges Randy did manage at times to dole out appropriate admonishments  of performances which was a breath of fresh air amongst all the you’re the greatest in the world vibe.

My guess is that yeah he’s not a judge anymore. I don’t think he actually hurt the show did every one like him nope but he was a recognizable feature. And he was a character that resonated in the back of your mind w/ his “Dawg” and “pitchy” comments. You’ll never get a judge that everyone loves and in the scheme of things Randy is a background noise that alleviates the sub conscious amongst all the Changes Idol has gone through.

If it was me I’d keep Randy as a JUDGE, it’s gonna be tough to get THREE great new judges and if you can’t accomplish that then why set yourself up for failure.

    The missing contract negotiations…

    TPTB: Mr. Jackson.
    Jackson: Dawg!
TPTB: We need to talk about your contract for season 12.
Jackson: To me, to you, dawg, the gig’s good but the pay’s just a’ight.
TPTB: We’re worried about competition from The Voice.
Jackson: The Voice is a little pitchy. The question is, are they in it to win it?
TPTB: Yes. So’s the X Factor.
    Jackson: To you, to me–
TPTB: Viewers now expect more of judges than catch phrases.
Jackson: Who combines the gravitas of L.A. Reid with the loud sportscoats of Cee Lo Green? Me, dawg. Me. And I was with Journey–
TPTB: But Cee Lo had a cat. We need you to hold a pet while judging.
Jackson: I’m going to judge with a dog, dawg?
TPTB: Dogs are too fuddy-duddy. We’re after a younger, hipper audience. After extensive audience research–
Jackson: But dawg, dogs are like Mariah and Whitney. Dogs are like Journey. Dogs are like Three Dog Night. A dawg’s best friend, dawg, is his dog.
TPTB: We’ve decided we need you to judge wrapped in a snake.
Jackson: Why’d it have to be snakes?

I don’t like Randy’s “dawg” and other little things but I don’t think he is a really bad judge.  Maybe I am just biased because he liked Scotty. I still remember his comment at Scotty’s audition “This kids going to have a long career”.  I think he has good instincts about who will be credible in the music business.

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

He’s also helped out a number of idols, including Casey Abrams. He’s exec. producer on Casey’s CD. And he gave Heejun the name of an agent. And I’ve heard other things from the past. I want Randy there in some capacity.

    I’m not getting the video!!!

imho Randy’s stock went up the moment the other two were out (whether they left or were pushed is moot.) An all new panel will need someone with judging experience. Period.

He’s not a bad guy at all and, under the circumstances, might be wiser to keep him.

Said this on another thread but I’ll say it again: Cheryl Cole has judging experience.

lol. I think Randy already spent more time saying he played with The Journey than actually playing with The Journey.

take him out of the judges seat PLEASE

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_I3NQHPT3NA6VGKK22RCMTGOCII Tiffany

If Mariah becomes a judge Randy will be there, in the audience as her manager or whatever lame excuse he can find.  Randy will be crushed if he isnt on that show imo.  He is just too desperate in his attempts to be the one on that show.

I can’t see the video-it doesn’t show for any outside the US-so I can’t comment  - but to me Randy isn’t so bad .I do think behind the scenes he has been great to many idols -so maybe mentoring is where he would shine.
