Randy Jackson is hot on the talk show circuit this week. After the jump, check out his appearances on Live with Regis and Kelly (this morning) and Late Show with David Letterman (last night).

Randy reiterates the meme that a girl will win this season, talks about missing Paula Abdul (of course) and shares his thoughts on Simon Cowell leaving next year (he needs a new challenge!)

Also, on Regis, Randy offers his opinion on the Adam Lambert AMA controversy (peeps are still asking about that?)

Letterman is hilarious, asking Randy when Idol is going to get of Ryan Seacrest. Also Letterman doesn’t envy Ellen Degeneres, noting the haterade she received after the announcement was made she’d be taking Paula Abdul’s place on the panel (I swear, Letterman reads the blogs! Heh)

I guess all the guys should go home since a girl is winning from the start.

I guess all the guys should go home since a girl is winning from the start.

LOL! Doesn’t this almost guarantee that a girl WON’T win?

  • agathe.hb

wow, did I imagine it, or did Randy just diss Adam reaaaallly bad????

  • unique28v

wow, did I imagine it, or did Randy just diss Adam reaaaallly bad????

I don’t think he dissed Adam. He just doesn’t like performance art, specifically Adam’s AMA perfromance. Kelly is the opposite. I think she balanced it out perfectly, and Regis, I don’t know if he knows what is going on. lol

  • sunny2

I don’t know if he knows what is going on. lol

Hee, that’s so true. Regis called him Alan Lambert LOL.

But I don’t think Randy meant any offense, he just said what Michael Slezak and many others said at the time, that he should of let his vocals be the main part of the performance.

  • Mtlfan

Alan Lambert..hahaha.. Regis was a little confused on this one!!!

I don’t like to see the failed auditions on the show but i got to admit that the one they showed from Chicago was hilarious.

  • agathe.hb

yeah, they are really pulling for the girl to win this time around, aren’t they :)

  • ptslittlecomment

Randy is also going to be on Joy Behar’s show tonight according to her plug on The View today. She will probably ask him about Adam too. She asks everyone about Adam whether they are connected to AI or not!

  • Belle

Since it emerged in top 5 week that he knew of Adam before the show, Randy started trying to distance himself from Adam and has found it near enough impossible to praise Adam without a caveat

The song has to warrant the outfit and the performance? What does For Your Entertainment warrant then, Randy? Being sat on a stool wearing a monk’s habit?

  • Belle

PMSL! She spent a fortnight hardly speaking about anyone or anything else.

  • agathe.hb

ptslittlecomment, do you think it’s because she is obsessed with him, like some of us, lol :)

  • hicksaholic

I just caught a little of Letterman last night but enough to really get pissed off at Randy. He was discussing the winners and mentioned a couple of the women then Daughtry. I guess it really is true, AI is trying to remove all traces of Taylor as the winner of Season 5. Assh*le, really p*sses me off, sorry.

  • agathe.hb

hicksaholic, why do you think that is? I have been watching AI for two seasons and through MJ’s site only, so I don’t know much about past seasons????? Did they treat Taylor the way they are treating Kris now? How come?

  • gangreen29

I guess all the guys should go home since a girl is winning from the start.

I’m glad lol. Throw us who prefer female singers a bone once and awhile idol.

  • Belle

Did they treat Taylor the way they are treating Kris now? How come?

Worse, much worse, and the silly thing is that though Taylor may not have been the chosen one, there was nothing in the judges’ comments or actions, etc, either during the contest or immediately after his win to suggest that they were too unhappy with him winning. Taylor certainly has personality, a USP and in my opinion a more than decent white soul voice.

Kris is hardly being treated shoddily. He may not be getting the media attention but that is a media issue. The management can take the horse to water but they cannot make it drink. If the media isn’t interested, the media isn’t interested. They can’t force a show to rake a guest, whoever that guest is. It is the prerogative of the show in question’s producers, etc, to make those decisions based on whatever their priorities, views and criteria are. The behind the scenes promotion such as plugging of the single and the more obvious standard promotion such as board and banner adverts for the album, and everything else that comes as part and parcel of the winner’s contract is very much being done in Kris’ case.

  • Junior

Did they treat Taylor the way they are treating Kris now?

I’m not sure what you mean by this exactly, if you meant it in a positive or negative way?

But they are treating Kris great, imo. His picture is large and in full view, he’s been featured in promos for this coming season, and his music has been featured prominently in the first few episodes of this season. He’s gotten everything a winner is supposed to get.

It’s not TPTB that are treating Kris differently, it’s the media that is treating Adam differently.

They’ve done right by Kris, imo.

  • Mark

Ugh. I genuinely wish the man would stop talking. The more permanently, the better. It’s so blatant, so annoying, so stupid.

  • Junior

Oh, and regarding Taylor, I’m sure peeps here will remember the specifics better than I can, but TPTB have been trying to erase Taylor from the AI history books for 4 years now. After the season was over the they would state that America “got it wrong” by voting for Taylor. The following season there were a few jokes at Taylor’s expense, including sticking gum on his picture, and Daughtry has been treated as the defacto winner ever since.

Taylor has been ignored except for the bare minimum as required, i’m sure, by contract.

Oh, and the media skewered Taylor mercilessly and rolled with the “American got it wrong” theme as Daughtry continued to sell week after week. Although Taylor was a huge hit-getting machine with the blogs. Blogs would bring up Taylor’s name and rake him over the coals just to get hits for their site from the Soul Patrol nutcases and some Daughtry fan nutjobs trolling for opportunities to bash him.

(please correct me, anyone, if i’ve gotten any details wrong)

It was my first foray into online fandom, and it was a weird and wild ride.

Huh?! What?! There is a rumor out there that AI is trying to remove all traces of Taylor as the winner?

Yeah they can try!!!! But it will NEVER happen! They can’t rewrite history.

Jim C. from MTV tweeted a comment made during their interview: “Randy Jackson: “There’ve been great boys but the boys haven’t made great records.” Me: [clutches pearls, gasps like a Southern Belle]”

Do you agree with this? The guys might not have sold as many Cd’s as some of the girl’s but that doesn’t mean their album isn’t good. I think some of the guys have put out some really good music.

  • Mtlfan

“Jim C. from MTV tweeted a comment made during their interview: “Randy Jackson: “There’ve been great boys but the boys haven’t made great records.” ”

    ugh!
Just hate it when an AI judge makes a derogatory comment on their AI winner. I think they should really be more positive.

    WOW, shut up Randy.
I still can’t forgive him for saying bad things about Kris on “movies week”.

  • sdmama

I vote Jim C. to be the next judge! Imagine how fun can it be? He can be critical, but added bonus, he is always funny.

  • hicksaholic

    Junior,
You stated what happened pretty accurately. What a lot of people wanted to know is why. Taylor came out of idol as argubly the most popular winner ever. Got the People cover as the most eligible bachelor, the big Ford commercial, huge crowds to see him on the AI tour. Then it all started crashing. Some have heard he was difficult to work with(Mj I believe) others claim he was unwilling to have crappy pop songs shoved down his throat. He did not sign with 19 (I think the only idol not to do that). My guess is that alone pissed off TPTB a whole lot and they decided to make an example of Taylor. Taylor was also responsible for attempting(unsuccessfully) to organize the top 24 to get more money per AI episode. Apparently they are paid minimum actor wage whatever that is.
There seems to be a little more of a truce at this point- he occassionaly makes AI related appearances, AI is not shoving gum on his face on the show(oh yeah, his face is not on the show). But at this point Taylor’s fanbase has dwindled substantially. I still follow him, he’s such a fabulous live entertainer I would put him up against anyone. I just wish he could get radio play for a few of his better recordings- Maybe You Should, The Right Place. With the right music he shines.

  • Jae

I don’t know why of all the judges Randy gets the most interviews. He always says something annoying or unintelligent.
