American Idol judge, Randy Jackson joined season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood, on stage at her concert in Oklahoma City tonight. What brought the two together? An Idol audition! For reals.  It was one of those “nominate an Idol” deals.

The hopeful, 18 year old Danielle Castleman belted out “All American Girl” a cappella, and the crowd went nuts.  After, Randy declared that Danielle had what it took to sing in front of the judges.

I’m sure we’ll see the footage when Idol returns with audition episodes on January 16, likely the show that features the Oklahoma City auditions.

I hope other Idol alums get in on the fun.

That’s a pretty cool idea! Hopefully it will be a way to keep the auditions from being so dull and stale. I wonder if Randy will just show up at different idol concerts and do this lol.

Ohhh… I didn’t even know there are new ways to audition for Idol now. “Nominate an idol” eh? These stuff will probably make good tv.

I believe the song she sung was Carrie’s All American Girl

So we have a one-up on The Voice, with their surprise audition invitations. Nigel also would surprise the acts on his  Opening Act show. I wonder how many more of these “”nominate an Idol” surprise auditions have already been done already? Best thing about this, it will freshen up the audition shows.

I love this.  The audition portion for the show had become too long for me.  I hope other former idols will be involved and I am glad Carrie was the first.

Just OK. A couple of bad notes. I wouldn’t turn my chair.

  • wkstrack

That was kinda cool. And it will make the audition episodes more interesting.

sad that AI has to resort to gimmicks to try to one-up the other singing competitions.  Guess even they realize how irrelevant they’ve become in the wake of all these other shows.

  • fantoo1

The auditions were becoming tired and boring. I’m glad they are trying something else to freshen it up.

  • HermeticallySealed

They have to do something.  The auditions have been a waste of episodes for several seasons. People have complained nonstop during that time that they drug on too long, or were too predictable, etc.  What are they exactly supposed to do?  Nothing?  Seems the only way to change that is to do something new.  Just seems common sense to me.

Yes, American Idol has become so irrelevant that its last winner’s first single went on to sell 2 million copies, while no one knows the winner of XFactor..

That was good!  Carrie has same thing Kelly has, GRATITUDE, what a beautiful gift! Exactly where GREATNESS begins!

Randy is so annoying. I just can’t stand him any longer. The thought of watching him again for another season is enough to get me headache. Anyway, the girl who sang All American Girl sang that song great. I love it. Excited to see what will she sing on Idol audition room.
