Three members of Pussy Riot, the feminist Russian punk band were found guilty of hooliganism driven by religious hatred and sentenced to two years in jail today. They have released a new single called “Putin Lights Up the Fires.
Last February, Maria Alyokhina, 24, Yekaterina Samutsevich, 29, and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, performed the song “Virgin Mary, Put Putin Away” at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow and were arrested afterward. They’ve been in jail ever since.
Paul McCartney, Madonna, Sting and the Bestie Boys have come out in support of the three women,

Coming from a country were the right to speak you’re mind–even if it’s an odious message (I mean, those nutbars, the Westboro Babptist Church are free to preach their hate)–it’s hard to imagine being punished so severely for merely speaking one’ s mind. Watch the video below.
