Pia Toscano’s been writing and recording demos since being signed to 19 Recordings/Interscope. Check out a demo of a song she cowrote called “Front Line” after the jump.

Check out Pia’s demo of “Front Line” which she cowrote with Steven Olsen and Anders Grahn here. To listen, scroll down to where it says “Available versions of this track” and click Play next to Full Demo. The other Play link won’t work. The song is a rangy and catchy midtempo pop tune with a slight urban feel in the verses.

An Ole newsletter confirms Pia cut the demo herself:

Interscope recording artist Pia Toscano (American Idol) co-wrote the song “Front Line” with ole/Roots Three writer Steven Lee Olsen and Anders Grahn from Roasting House Publishing in Sweden, for which she cut a demo during the camp. Toscano was one of three major label artists participating in the camp along with Christina Milian and SRC/Universal Motown recording artist Aubrey O’Day, a former member of the girl group Danity Kane and currently seen on Celebrity Apprentice with Donald Trump.”

Roasting House Music (a Swedish company with a publishing division) also features a picture and this blurb about the writing session:

This week Anders Grahn attended the olé pop/urban writing camp at the world famous Westlake Studios in Los Angeles. A great selection of top writers and artists connected for 5 days of intense songwriting together with visits from A&Rs of US top labels. In the photo is Anders Grahn together with artist Pia Toscano (Interscope/19) and cowriter Steven Lee Olsen and olé creative Chad and Julie after a great session.

Do you think “Front Line” has hit potential?

Pia sounds great but…lol at the lyrics! Jordin’s Battlefield is a better written song.

Not overly impressed. Better than “This Time”, but to me, it’s like a lesser version of “Battlefield”. Strangely, I thought Pia sounded really good in her lower register but a little screetchy when she was going for the high notes. Which I wouldn’t have thought would be the case.

let us remember that it is a leaked demo….nobody ever said it was going to be released.

That said, she sounds very good – but like with “This Time”, the lyrics are bad and the production is overdone.

It is more sassy than This Time, but now she really have to sell the song.
I don’t really like all the high notes though, and she can oversing this.
And yes, I know that she can hit the high notes, but just a little bit at a time, I guess.

Looks like the demo link is gone.  But from reading the comments people seem to think its similar to Jordin’s “Battlefield”, and I love that song written by Ryan Tedder.  Pia worked with Swedish song writers on this and the Swedes are good with pop music.  Sounds Pia’s song will have pop with soul vibe which is mainstream and that’s a good thing.  I look forward to hearing it.  I had a few favorite contestants this past season but Pia was my top favorite.
