Phyllis Diller, a trailblazing stand up comedian, has died at the age of 95. Beginning in the early 50s, she was one of the first females to make her mark in the male dominated world of comedy, and as such blazed a trail for those who would come after.

“A true original has died. Phyllis Diller There was NOOne like her, no 1looked like her sounded like her. A FUNNY FUNNY. Classy& Smart RIP” tweeted Whoopi Goldberg. And Ellen DeGeneres tweeted, “We lost a comedy legend today. Phyllis Diller was the queen of the one-liners. She was a pioneer.”

I remember watching her joke about her husband Fang, and her many plastic surgeries. Phyllis was candid about cosmetic surgery back in the 70s and 80s when it was still a dirty little secret amongst Hollywood stars.

She had a REALLY long career, that began in the early 50′s and ended with a 2012 guest appearance on The Bold and the Beautiful. She was also an accomplished pianist. How is that for longevity. RIP Phyllis

I’m laughing now at a skit in her kitchen… She asks the male guest “Would you like some tea?”…(Yes)…”Hot or cold?”…(Hot)…. So she turns on the hot faucet and fills the cup.

She had a helluva career! RIP miss Diller! I suppose Fang will be waiting.

I think the one thing that stands out to me about her was her sometimes outrageous hairdos.  LOL!  She was a funny lady, that’s for sure.

This vid is just too funny !

She’s a comedian so we focus on the laughs.

But she blazed a female trail thru comedy that took a big dose of courage and perseverance. Us younger females take a lot for granted that PD and her compatriots paid a big price to gain. Not just in comedy. In every area of life.

    PD. Thanks.

I have so many memories of her on every talk show, from Mike Douglas to Merv Griffin to Johnny. She was so bold and so brave and so funny. It took a lot of courage for her to become a comedianne. She was either widowed or divorced and had to support her kids. A true trail-blazer and so very funny!

I still remember some of her routines including one where she said she wasn’t coordinated enough to drive an automobile and had to pull off the road so she could blow the horn.  She was truly funny.

    RIP, dear lady.

I grew up watching her on The Ed Sullivan Show and Johnny Carson.  Her jokes about her husband ‘Fang’ even made me laugh as a kid.  She was great.  She’d usually wear an old house-dress (garishly colored), this weird bathing cap kinda thing carrying a long cigarette holder.  Then she’d begin her set.  What a hoot!!  God I’ll miss her.  She was part and parcel of the TV 60′s (and 70′s) experience.

I remember Phyllis being on The Ed Sullivan Show and Johnny Carson; however, her stints in visiting the troops with Bob Hope are even more vivid.  She wasn’t “exactly” a beauty, but the troops loved her.  She certainly was a trail blazer.
