Phillip Phillips Unveils A New Song (VIDEO)

American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips is currently on a college tour, unveiled a brand new song at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.

The song, which is currently unnamed, gets off to a slow start, but builds to a powerful crescendo as he repeats the chorus. Overall I like it. What about you?

Love it!!! With a deep, dark start and a hopeful overwhelming end. His permonfance of the song is hauntingly beautiful.

  • SLY ?Hold your Life?

SO BEAUTIFUL!! It’s a deeper song like A Fool’s Dance or Volcano and he puts all his soul into it, its breathtaking <3

  • lovesickheroine

Holy Crap this song is so good! I hope he records this song right away!

  • Anny_nanny

    Love it!
I am glad that we have the full song, because collect it as the puzzle was difficult. )))

  • nocott

A haunting melody, very thought provoking lyrics. I like it

  • Face

not bad… like the dark and brooding nature of it… kinda KoL meets Chris Isaak…

  • Tay1210

It’s exactly what I want to hear from him more. Absolutely beautiful.

  • vortexpanel

Wow, talk about a grating melody. What language is he singing in? I understood maybe five words of this. Then again, he was probably preoccupied with keeping his monstrous three note voice in tune for an entire song. Such a trooper!

  • Jasmine

This song is amazing, beautiful and shows what a great versatile musician he is! Can’t wait for the next album!!!

  • Madilo

“What language is he singing in?”
brazilian as he’s preparing to Rock in Rio ha !

Sorry you don’t like it. But not all is for everyone, said that, you don’t need be MEAN. Thanks.

  • potatorocks

I like it. There are moments that it really takes me away. So much potential here.

  • jpfan2

Not a fan of this song. Just too formless for my taste.

  • nocott

Understand not all share same tastes in music. Don’t understand need for extreme negativity and unkindness in expressing what is, after all, one person’s opinion.

  • Larc

Typical of P2, not much in the way of an identifiable melody. Almost sounds more like a chant than a song.

  • tigervixxxen

Wow, great song. I love the dark acoustic side of Phillip.

  • Heather

Love it! This dude is a musical GENIUS!!!! Can’t wait to hear a studio cut and finally learn the name up it.

  • standtotheright

I’m the opposite of MJ. I think the start is the most powerful part of the song and was intrigued by where it was going. But between the falsetto (that doesn’t work) and the scansion (that is irregular for no discernable reason) I just couldn’t get through it.

  • Merri Call

We also heard this at Kennasaw Georgia!! Loved it then and love it now…. Keep up with the awesome music Phillip :D Love ya !!!!

  • calliebeckett

Speaking of Phillip, here’s an article in The Guardian UK:

Not the nicest article about him especially :

“Gruff, raspy rock that couldn’t be any more heartland mainstream if it came with a life-sized blow-up John Mellencamp”

  • jpfan2

This article about P2 is hilarious. There’s one funny quote after another.

  • LeoCS

I’m not even a fan of P2 and I found this song awesome. Very interesting structure and chord progressions. Better than 80% of his album. He’s not the best singer from the WGWGs, but he seems to be the best composer.

  • LeoCS

“brazilian”. are you sure it’s a language? lol

  • bridgette12

    not really, it’s Portuguese

It’s Portuguese :) And no, he isn’t speaking it

  • Anny_nanny

I think it was a joke.

  • iani

I’m pretty sure this song is written by P2 with no collaboration, I hear some Fool’s Dance in. Phillip is a complex songwriter, with all the simplicity at first listen of any song written by himself, overall his songs are very complex to me. The deepness of his style amaze me for such young guy who came to a reality show competition.

I know, I’m being sarcastic, but it’s still portuguese lol

  • fuzzywuzzy

It’s very P2. This song makes me understand better what he did to the covers that he sang on Idol. lol

I agree. “Formless” is an apt description.

  • stargazed

P2 is my favorite WGWG. So interesting and so talented.

  • sara

    LOL a good one :D

  • Madilo

the song is so beautiful and Phillips emotion is spot on, i believe the studio version would be gorgeous i’m sure

You can see that he feels every word that he is singing.

  • tucker davis

Phillip may never write poppy radio hits, but his music will be interesting. Hope he can find enough fans who appreciate his talent. I’ve heard that he has quite a few songs already written that have never been recorded.

  • Madilo

that’s what i appreciate about him

  • girlygirl

I could swear I’ve heard a song that is almost exactly like this in terms of melody/chord progression before. It is just so familiar to me. I wish I could remember what song this reminds me of. Gah…now this is going to drive me crazy until I figure out what song it reminds me of, lol. Anybody else get this feeling?

  • Lori

Moody and introspective. I love it! ;)

  • Myrrna

This guy seems like the type who thinks he is just way too cool for an Idol winner.

Like if Aretha won and Natural Woman (which no one had ever heard) was her coronation song, this is the guy who would sneer “too raspy and derivative. Already 8 people out there who are doing this much better”

Some critics listen with their egos instead of their ears.

  • M.J. Mac

Listened to this a few times…not sure how I feel about it…usually really like his stuff, but I feel like this one will have to grow on me. Definitely on the darker side like Fools Dance.

  • calliebeckett

I think more of the “We’re really taking a person who won a singing reality competition seriously? Seriously?” type of thing.

  • Jordana33

Good song. I like it a lot more than the Mumford and Sons’ clones. I still can’t stand his voice, but I have to admit that he has a great sense of musicality, and he’s also a decent songwriter. I can definitely hear the Dave Matthews influence, but the beginning of the songs also has a bit of a Chris Isaak/Wicked Games vibe. Nice job.

  • LA944

Not melodic enough for me–but it’s interesting. He def feels his music. Last week I was driving home listening to coffee house on xm radio. An acoustic version of Thriller came on the station. Now, I’m not a big fan of the original by MJ. So, it’s not as if I hold this song in some sacred musical place like I’m sure many do. But, I was thinking –whoever is singing this–does not sing well at all. I looked at the radio and it was P2–lol.

    That’s what I love about him :)

  • potatorocks

That may be the funniest album review I’ve ever read. If I was P2 I’d probably frame it.

  • TheOther

A true artist. A true musician. I’ve always thought Phillip had a very commercial voice; commercial look. It’s ironic, with songs that they wished they wrote, he gave an iconic performance last year with Volcano.

  • Jen

Love this song! Shows how good he is at writing lyrics!

  • jpfan2

This is 100% P2’s greatest strength. He feels everything he’s singing and he communicates that emotion. That’s why folks who think Home would have been as big a smash with any Idol singer are completely off base.

  • maymay

This song can be a souvenir or extra on his album but should not be his signature for his music. Its melody is broken, and goes nowhere. The radio never will play it a lot. That means it can`t help the album sales.

As haunting songs, Valcano and The Stone are better. Their melody are simple but still have the structure. PP`s new song goes too far for the majority.

PP should write a song like Valcano. Don`t forget Valcano is some kind of song he wants to write. So why not try taht direction?

PP wants to bulid his brand. I think the music with broken and formless melody is not good sign in a long run. I know many post-morden panitings are successful. But watching a paniting is different from listening to a song. Not to mention the fact the music industry is controlled by radio.

PP`s second album supposed to be successful. But he has a strong personality for his own music. So I think he will want more control to produce his next album. I hope that will not become a tragedy. Give-and-take is still important. It worked well for his delbut album.

  • Anny_nanny

I love this song. And I know that she will never be a single. But no one album may consist solely of singles, if only it wasn’t a Greatest Hits. And there is nothing I can with itself do, likely I re-listen to “fill”-songs.
Phillip is a novice author, he can and must learning to write hits, probably. For this is “co-authorship”. But he should write for any reason, all your emotions and thoughts translate into a song, it’s practice.
And I love that he tries new songs to the public, checks reaction. It’s something that was not clear to me before-AI of Phillip, he had no one video with his own music, as if he did not dare to perform his songs in public. But this is P2, I have nothing surprised.

Title: Together As One. Simply Amazing song.

  • ? peaceful_revolutionary

A snarky self-indulgent revue from 5 months ago. Album already platinum. Looks like nobody cares.
