I disagree. If you look at this list of tweets, there’s a lot more than a “few isolated cases” of fans who are expressing their unhappiness that Ben will not be on tour with P2.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I can’t imagine following the family members of any musician/singer that I was interested in. TBH, even though I follow Kelly and Adam, I lost interest in reading their tweets after a few months. lol  I’m really just interested in any music that they produce that appeals to me.

I looked at Ben’s twitter account. He has 1700 followers on twitter — so it doesn’t seem like most of Phillip’s fans know and/or care about him. I saw many 3 people tweeting him about being upset he isn’t going on tour. That’s not exactly going to start some sort of huge uprising on his behalf.

Tracking the #WeWANTBenontour tag yields about a dozen participants. So yeah, that’s probably a fairly low count for fan interference. No way is it going to sway TPTB to change anything — we’re talkin’ “gnat pestering elephant” here.

P2′s people should still restrain the urge to take battles with TPTB public, since all that does is provide witnesses when they lose.

Lots of people follow relatives/friends of Idols on twitter. Check out the twitter pages for Adam’s brother & boyfriend, Lee’s wife, Chris D’s wife, Cook’s brother, Kris’ wife, mother, father & brother, etc. Kris’ DOG has over 3000 followers, for god’s sake. Or look at the twitter pages for Tommy Joe (Adam’s guitarist) or Cale (Kris’ guitarist). I would guess that majority of the followers are passive (that is, they follow them but don’t really interact that much with them) but there are people who actively try and interact with them on a regular basis. I would think that most of the interaction is friendly, and of course the relatives/friends can always block people or lock their accounts (or leave twitter entirely) if they get harassed or whatever. And I’ve occasionally seen relatives/friends of Idols actively solicit fans to follow them on twitter, so the interest sometimes can be both ways.

It`s nice to help your family and friends or gf. But music industry is very professional which you have to respect its some rules.

I remember PP said he isn`t interested in becoming a super star. But if PP wants Ben or anyone to join his music business, he needs to become a super star to have more powers. If PP thinks he too great to fit hollywood stuff, he should give up his music career.

PP should grow up and stop being immature and naive. Don`t be a drama queen.
It hurts his career in a long run.

Nothing good can happen for Phillip.  If he sings well, the performance will be forgotten soon after the first pitch.  If he sings poorly, the performance will never be forgotten.

Well, not “never” be forgotten – a person has to be Roseanne Barr Bad to be remembered forever. Heh.

But yeah, Tyson, that’s the situation, and it’s the same gamble every artists takes who sings the National Anthem at any event – and they do it anyway. Maybe they do it for the honor; it ‘is’ an honor to be asked.

Then again, maybe to put it on their resume, or cross it off their Bucket List, maybe they all have a touch of the adrenaline junky, and like to take the dare of a song that can go pear shaped so easily…what do I know?

But they must figure ‘something’ good comes of it, if they sing it well – or even reasonably OK – something that makes it worth the risk. Phillip is taking the same chance they all take. Good luck to him. IMO.

well I posted a tweet in the headlines thread from a college booking agency about PP being available for college dates for Jan-May. So he may not be touring with anyone for awhile, unless they are going to try and combine headline college dates with dates opening for someone

  • standtotheright

That college booking agency has had listings for every recent winner in the spring after their album release, IIRC. Sometimes it means a college tour, a la Cook. Most of the time it just means that they hope they can procure one-off bookings for school spirit or parents’ weekends.

In this case, P2 might get some more bookings than the average because Home sounds like M&S/OMAM/Lumineers et all, and college kids listen to those bands.

That was not the statement that I responded to (I can’t find the statement that you have quoted). This is what I responded to:

My bad.  I guess I was confused.  Since most of the interest is not
coming from the fan base.  The examples tweet really represent a few
isolated cases – and far from the norm.

And all one has to do is read the tweets directed to thebenneil here:

    https://twitter.com/search/realtime?q=thebenneil&src=typd

to realize that it’s far more than a “few isolated cases” or “3 people” who are responding and that the interest is, of course, coming from fans.

I agree that it’s not the majority of P2′s followers, but as I mentioned earlier, only the hardcore fans care who the musicians are in any Idol’s band, and P2 definitely has more than a “few” hardcore fans who are expressing their disagreement with Ben not touring with P2.

Oh, I know that lots of fans follow friends and family members of Idols. I’m just saying that *I* don’t do that or understand why anyone would want to follow these people. And yes, sometimes friends and family of Idols actively engage in/solicit communication with fans and they develop their own following, but I don’t get why fans would want to follow these people. It’s different when musicians in the band try to engage fans because I can understand why they want to develop their own following for professional reasons.
