Phillip Phillips Plays Guitar on Robert Redford’s Singing Debut (Plus SUMMER TOUR News)

Phillip Phillips

From the You Can’t Make This Stuff Up department: According to the New York Post, American Idol season 11 winner Phillip Phillips played guitar on actor Robert Redford’s SINGING DEBUT for the soundtrack of the upcoming movie Blind starring Alec Baldwin and Demi Moore. The film is directed by Michael Mailer.

Spies say the “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” star, who’s not in the film, sang with Sasha Lazard at Avatar Studios in Midtown this week for two original songs, and Phillip Phillips “performed his signature guitar riffs.” The sessions were produced by Dave Eggar and Chuck Palmer.

Producer Dave Eggar is the cello player who has toured and recorded with Phillip. The musician, a virtuoso on both the cello and piano, has recorded and arranged for a ton of artists, so it’s not so odd he’d be tapped to produce the Redford sessions and bring Phillip on board to play. Still it’s a pretty odd pairing!

UPDATE: Meanwhile, Phillip is heading out on a co-headlining tour with Matt Nathanson this summer, kicking off at the San Diego County Fair on June 17 and ending at the Wisconsin State Fair on August 13. A Great Big World and Eric Hutchinson will also be part of the bill. Pre-sale starts Tues at 12pm ET. Password=PPSUMMER. Check out the FULL schedule HERE.
