American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips performed at the Grove Christmas tree lighting last night (Nov 11) with a slew of other performers, including Scotty McCreery, Colbie Caillet, The Backstreet Boys and more.

He performed his hit “Home” plus a jazzy rendition of the classic Donny Hathaway song, “This Christmas.”

    I enjoyed this. Didn’t notice any problems other than a few words hard to make out. Would buy it if it was on iTunes. He Phillipsed it and it works for me.

    Having said that, I wish everyone articulated their words the way Scotty does. :)

     David A. vocals on This Christmas were amazing.  Wrong song choice for P2. I am a fan of P2′s but I don’t think he can just sing any song and sound good.

    Very nice rendition. Archie was cute and funny the way that he introduced the song as a ‘groovy” Christmas song. lol

    This was discussed in an earlier thread. Although Scotty performed for the MTDP last year, all of the past Idol winners have not performed:

    The winners don’t always perform at the Macy’s parade. For instance, in Season 7, David A took that gig instead of David C.  Pretty sure that neither Kris A or Adam L were dancing with turkeys on Thanksgiving. Taylor Hicks didn’t do Macys. 

    It’s not a gig that’s set in stone for the winner. In fact, there are no gigs that are mandatory, except maybe the Disney stuff they are contractually obligated to do.

    According to wiki, it turns out that someone from Idol has performed at the Macy’s TDP each year since 2003, but it hasn’t necessarily been the winner that year.
