Nice promo, Phil! He’ll be heading to St. Louis to perform in the American Idols Live! concert tomorrow night with the rest of the Top 10.

I do not like “Home”, but I’m glad that everything is so well composed. The main thing that PP did not start singing these songs on, otherwise I again, as after the 8S, there will be nothing to hear.
But I like how it makes the song his own. I think Jimmy is also satisfied.Phillip is able to choose the songs, even the Jimmy said it. And I’ll listen to a lot of songs that were previously missed. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it will not be lost.
But I admit that Jimmy has the experience, of which PP is not enough. Hopefully, the amount not be less than the parts.

”We all know FOX likes to promote their Idols. I won’t need that bridge
lol. As for the label discussion, you were the one who, wrongly as it
turns out, said NBC would favor a UMG song for the Olympics, to which I
simply commented that Cook was RCA, because your suggestion about a UMG
label preference didn’t match what NBC had decided 4 years ago.”

Yep, as I acknowledged above, I blanked on the business changes that split music Universal and movie-theme-park Universal apart, as I now dimly remember reading about long ago.

However, you seem to be kind of suggesting that this happens only at Fox!

And what I’m saying is merely the obvious, which isn’t the least undercut by NBC playing Fox-person David Cook’s song at the last Olympics: While corporate ties are certainly not the only factor in these decisions, they certainly do play a role in many cases, with all companies, not just Fox and the idols!

I never said that they “would favor” a UMG song. I said that a corporate link (about the particulars of which I was wrong, in that case) could lead them to favor one song over another, *if* a network was mulling two or three songs that they liked equally well and trying to break a tie!

So, if they liked a Voice person’s song just as well as they liked Home, I’d expect them to pick the Voice person’s song…. Luckily for Phil, that won’t happen because no Voice people have any songs that anybody’s heard of! (doubt that the Olympics will play Moves Like Jagger … )

This year is bizarre because normally when a winner is contested, the
runner up fans make a point of buying like crazy to “prove” their Idol
    should’ve won.

That’s actually not “typical”, it’s only happened when the top 2 were both MALE with rabid fighting fanbases. And it is still more common for the winner to still come out on top than not.

Anyway, Philip’s voice is fine for his genre methinks. As has been said a million times, what makes for success where he’s headed is the ability to write exceptional songs that fits one’s voice.  That’s where fingers need to be crossed for with him, IMO.

All early signs point to the Idol audience giving him a good Christmas (and probably a well supported first tour) but we should never take that as proof of any of these people’s ability to connect or sell to anyone but the Idol audience. I speak from experience. LOL. What we know is who *they* liked, but we don’t know if the general public will give a shit or not. Only time will tell. It will be a long wait in that regards.

Here’s the only original I know of…an “early song” called ‘Hazel’.  The lyrics seem satisfactory, but it is melodically unimaginative.  A talented co-writer could take care of that deficiency, if it indeed exists.  And one thing we know is that Jimmy is a fanatic about melody.  So am I.

Phillip is growing on me… i hate to admit it!!

I think “Hazel” is not so much melodically unimaginative, rather it is the kind of songs that certain kind of singers like to sing. Unfortunately, I think the song doesn’t suit his voice, perhaps more for someone with a more melancholic voice, or who sings in a lower key.

From what I’ve heard this was one of his first songs and he has written and learned a lot since.
