American Idol Season 11 winner, Phillip Phillips, “Home” Music Video debuts today on VEVO!

Releasing the video in the middle of “Home’s” Olympic-fueled rise on iTunes is VERY smart. So is the low-key, documentary-style  approach the director took, portraying Phillip as a simple working musician.  Here’s Phil writing songs the bus,  shopping for guitars, performing on stage, meeting fans. He’s a lone figure–a singer-songwriter with only the long and winding road ahead of him, broken by the occasional visit from his girlfriend (the real deal has a cameo). Yep. it works.

I was a little worried about Phillip–especially after he had to miss ALL of his post finale promo due to illness. But with “Home” back at the top of the digital chart, thanks to the Olympics, things are looking up for P2.

Watch the video below.

Hasn’t been used tonight for the all around…they haven’t shown the floor exercise…so don’t know if they will use it after it is over…but probably not if they haven’t used it yet tonight.

I’m hearing that “Home” wasn’t used on the Olympics gymnastics coverage tonight.

Very well put…couldn’t have expressed it better myself.

ok thx, probably home will fall of the top of the chart by tomorrow, but the good has been done, and more people will search 4 him.

I’ve always loved this kind of video. Simple,  honest, shades of black and gray, down to earth. Add to that is Phillip’s screen charisma and we have a winner!! I’m so proud of Phillip and I have no doubt at all that this young man will go a long way in his music career.

I think this video resembled Marc Broussard’s “Home.”  Very proud of Marc!

This is the perfect video for me. Just natural and homey.

    The video is quite arresting.

But wow! – this really sounds like a country / cowboy song. I can almost imagine some long-lost, dusty, old, road-weary cowboy softly galloping from a distant horizon – finally coming back from a great great distance to home. :-)

The song definitely tugs at the heart strings -  I daresay of both male and female folks – thus its popularity.

Curious to see if Phillip can re-create this magic with another song that isn’t remotely similar to “Home”.

P2 is very much like Scotty, only older, in that both look like nice boys next door. He has a genuine smile, coupled with beautiful eyes. He’s got that musician songwriter vibe that can be quite a turn on for girls. The video is very him, and maybe indicative of the type of music direction he will be taking. The video is geared toward college girls and older. I like the art direction: The music, the video, plus P2, it sure makes you feel like home.

But if he can’t write songs (or isn’t given songs) that connect with
listeners, then it won’t really matter whether the camera loves him or
not (again, we have plenty of evidence of that with multiple other
    ex-Idols)

Well of course! He absolutely needs to write great songs to get anywhere at all. That’s a given. The thing is, if he can.. he has the looks and the charisma to go with it, so there is potential for a nice career there, that’s all. But we’ll see what he comes out with in the fall.

This song is so dang good. What a score. I hope Phil appreciates what a home run he was gifted with. Great song and the video works.

Phillip’s video goes nicely with his song.

Don’t know nothing about Phillip or ever heard him sing so I decided to take a listen.  Sorry don’t understand all the hoopla.  It’s simple and ok just not my taste.  But good for him.

I think the video is a bit of a let-down. A few nice arty shots, but it needs more than that to get people to keep watching it because it has no proper narrative.  It’s just a random selection of shots of someone on tour which is unconnected with the lyrics of the song.  That’s a pity because the lyrics lend itself to some kinds of narrative that can capture the heart in a video.

I enjoyed watching this video bc of the beautiful landscape and bc it´s a cosy, cuddly song, but it certainly doesn´t take my breath away. It does succeed in boosting the singer / songwriter portrait but fails to match the lyrics.

I like the video, it fits the song well and it’s not overproduced. Just nice and comfortable. I wish Phillip and Crystal could tour together, they are actually quite similar.

I really enjoyed seeing this song paired with shots of the U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team.  It really worked well.

great video!!  very authentic feel to it.  I didn’t like or dislike P2 while he was on idol.  But I can see him finding a lot of success and that’s awesome

For me (imo), he combines Kris Allen and Danny Gokey and this combo is the best!!
