Phillip Phillips – Gone Gone Gone – Ellen DeGeneres Show – VIDEO

Watch the reigning American Idol champ, Phillip Phillips perform his new single, “Gone Gone Gone” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Phillip will also be dropping by Jimmy Kimmel Live later to perform. I think the new single is another winner.

That’s my favorite song off the album – hope it does well for him!

  • tierbee

And holy moly I don’t think I’ve ever had a favorite song off an Idol album be a single. Are we sure it isn’t the end of the world? :)

  • waitingforthe1

like it, a lot.  I might have to get his album if more songs are this good.

  • Lori

Great sound! P2 looks so happy. Probably ecstatic that he finally gets to sing something other than Home LOL! (I love Home, but it’s been done a gazillion times now). And that’s quite a band – 7 including P2! Does anyone know if that’s his permanent band?

  • Leandro

Saying again cause I wrote on the wrong thread.

P2 really needs backup singers for GGG. His musicians aren’t good singers and the song loses a little bit of its mojo without the chorus.

  • ali_359921

Oh, that performance ..  He seems so uptight … The performance in these shows helps a lot in sales , right ??    I wish him best of luck

  • springboard2

I like this song, and I like it more than Home.

  • Livia Sellers

    I love this song!

  • Andy

Does P2 eligible for Best New Artiste normination for the upcoming 2013 Grammy Award?  I hope people (like us) will start a campaign pushing to get him win the award!!!

  • IrisandLilies

I liked the Today Show performance of this song better.  Something seemed off with this performance of Gone, Gone, Gone.  Maybe it was my earphones, maybe Phillip got a little rusty performance-wise over the break, or maybe the musicians in the band need a little more time to gel.  This band appears to be made up of the two groups of musicians that Phillip has played with on his various gigs after AI.  The only consistent member has been Erroll Cooney.

  • durbesque

TODAY or ELLEN?  idk…I like them both.  On ELLEN it was a mix problem…the banging was too loud, but the song is so good, it was still effective.

  • b_james

He has to be so happy to be performing a new song!

This live version sounds pretty rough, but I really like the studio version.  He is such a little Dave Matthews 2.0.

  • lemonwuss

I dont know if its just the quality of the video, but it seemed like Phillip is sick or something. Phillip sounded better vocally on GGG when he sang it with the PS22 kids..jmo. Anyways, its great to finally hear a new song!

  • ladymctech

This song is very Dave Matthews-like. It’s pretty good.

  • bridgette12

It’s too late, they didn’t nominate him or the song for anything.

  • lovetheusa1776

Good album –  like this song – nice follow-up to Home.

Phillip could be sick…a lot of people are sick right now.  But he’s always kinda sick with nerves when he has to perform in stressful situations.  Appearing on ELLEN with a full “orchestra” could be pretty intimidating for a country boy.

  • BigNLiddle

    Agreed 1000%. Wow.

  • Amber Marin

Awesome performance. I love this song, it’s probably my favorite off the album, although it’s hard to choose. I will agree with some that something sounded off with this performance though, I noticed he sounded drowned out by the instruments & the backup singers, especially during the chorus. At times his voice is rather quiet & it was hard for me to hear him over everything else. but it was amazing nonetheless! Everyone go buy his album!

So, so, so Mumford and Sons. Which seems to be working for P2. I actually like this one better than Home.

  • Aakash Mansukhani

It wasn’t him that was off, it was the band overpowering his vocals. I’m pretty sure it was technical  they should have increased the volume of his microphone. Also, I agree the backup singers need to change pronto  This song is such a freaking good song, way better than home in my opinion. And yeah, he does need a solid band to back him up, definitely.

  • Beth

Wow – terrible singing all around. He needs female backup vocals and he needs to lose his Dave Matthews feet thing. Very rusty… yikes.  Slammin’ band though.

  • TheOther

Great strategy to have the current AI winner do a media splash to help usher in the new Season. Phillip was just on Ellen back on premiere week in Sep.

  • Incipit

So, so, so Mumford and Sons.  Caro3278sweet

This song is very Dave Matthews-like.  ladymctech

I read some reviewers who were talking about the dual, Mumford/Matthews  personality of the album, but you guys are doing it to the same song! Heh. I don’t listen to either of those artists; I’m at your mercy for a description of who this GGG really sounds like – besides the writers, that is. So which is it? Mumford or Matthews? How can you tell?

And while I’m asking questions, please, what in the world is this song about? The singer will love someone after they have gone and left him flat, or he will love them after they are physically dead and gone? Or does someone have a third possibility? because those two are really downers. IMO.

  • TheOther

Ellen DeGeneres?@TheEllenShow Phillip @Phillips sang “Gone Gone Gone” on my show. I love him as much as he loves things that repeat.

  • potatorocks

This song does work better with fewer instruments and good backup singers.   The song is not my favorite on the album–I like it–but it is the one that I have trouble getting out of my head.   I don’t think it will take very long to catch on.  You hear it once and you remember it.

  • Beth

Well Incipit – He worships Dave Matthews (fact – just read his Zine pack, the whole thing is about how much he loves DM). He tries to sing like him, he dances his signature dance as he does, he throws in “yeahs” in every song JUST as Matthews, and some songs on his album that he wrote, he stole parts of the Dave Matthews Band music. Not sure on M&Sons, maybe someone else can offer insight. I love GGG, this performance was horrible. Actually had to plug my ears during the chorus. Can’t wait to watch Idol – hope a girl wins.

  • lila6089

Love Phillip and this song, but I agree that he and the band did sound a little off in this performance.  I think they all need to get back into the groove of performing live again.  Hopefully they will sound better on Kimmel.

  • jpfan2

I don’t think Ellen is known for giving big bumps to songs so going from somewhere in the 500s to 129 (that what it is now on iTunes) is actually pretty decent. I think the song has potential.

  • durbesque

Phil was good on Kimmel.  Had a big band with him.  The label is going all out.  He opened his eyes a little bit…they’re blue!!!

  • IrisandLilies

Actually, his eyes are green.   LOL.  Cosmo magazine (I think?) made the same mistake about his eye color when they listed him as one of the ten (?) hotties of summer months ago.   I think his eye color may have been discussed in his interview with Ryan Secrest right after he won AI.
