It looks like the Major League Baseball All-Star game weekend is going to be all Idols all the time! Phillip Phillips and Kellie Pickler are set to perform at the game, set for Tuesday July 10 in Kansas City MO. The game will air on FOX.

Country singer Luke Bryan will sing the national anthem and Kellie Pickler will perform “God Bless America” during the 7th inning stretch.

Before the game, American Idol winner Phillip Phillips will perform his coronation single, “Home” on field in a special performance. A tribute will play during the song that highlights tornado recovery efforts in nearby Joplin, Mo., and Tuscaloosa, Ala. Habitat for Humanity is building nine new homes for low-income families in those areas.

Season 7 American Idol winner, and Missouri native, David Cook will sing the national anthem before the Home Run Derby, that’s set to air on ESPN the night before.

    Idol, Idol everywhere!

I LOVE how active Kellie’s management is being in keeping her visible. I think this should be a good showcase for P2 and Home, and I’m sure Cook will sing a great anthem at the Home Run Derby.

Great to see Home get more primetime TV exposure and great to see DC added to my favorite all-star event. Go Cargo! Lol

I have missed Phillip so keep it comin….

I agree about Kellie’s management.  I think Kellie is a little different than some of the other idols who have lost their contracts.  She’s well established in terms of both her celebrity, and in her genre, so it’s going to be easier for her to be booked for high profile events, and like a dj said last week, because of that and her personality, it won’t be long before she’s signed to another record label.

I’m going to commission the brain trust behind, “Where’s Waldo” to come up with an AI version called, “Where’s Lee DeWyze?”….

Good for Phil, for a second I thought he was asked to perform the national anthem. Haha

Awe, I would have liked to hear Phillip’s version of the NA! Drats he’s not performing that.

“It looks like the Major League Baseball All-Star game weekend is going to be all Idols all the time!”

Not surprised by this. The game is being telecast on Fox and Idol is Fox’s (and TV’s) biggest show so it’s a no brainer to bring in as many Idols as they can to remind everyone of American Idol in the off-season and to give their past reality TV show stars some additional exposure.

That said, I’m very happy to have the opportunity to see P2 and Kellie on Fox and David Cook on ESPN. ESPN loves them some David Cook!

Well, Hell.o – that was the speculation the minute it was known David would be involved in this weekend; we know they love him – (several National Anthems in KC) and he’s played the Home Run Derby before, as the on-field entertainment. So for the 2nd time, I’m seeing confirmation here at mj’s re David and a MLB event! Cool. The only thing left on my list of things to know is what position he will play on the softball team. Pitcher? First Base? Heh.

Hope David had a nice break in Hawaii, because the MLB organizers are really working that Home Town Boy connection for three events that are right up his alley – with singing the SSB, running in the 5K (and handing out the finisher’s medals) – and the Celebs and All Stars Softball game. Gonna be a crazy crowded couple of days, with hopefully lots of $$ raised to fight cancer, and I’ll bet he’s happy to do it. And I’ll be happy to turn on ESPN to watch whatever they broadcast of David’s participation. That too.

Well it’ll be a Leesburg reunion as Phillip & Luke are both from this small Georgia town!

I totally forgot that Buster Posey (catcher for the National League) is also from Leesburg. In fact all three of these guys went to the same high school & live within 10 miles of each other. So…ol’ home night!

Ah, and there’s a reason to check in with FOX. The tribute to Joplin. Ever since David played that “Secret Surprise” show at Joplin for their relocated Prom last year soon after the tornado hit, and that completely chilling real-time video of the devastation at the High School and throughout the town was posted, I’ve been following any links about the recovery there. Interested to see how they are doing.

I have a feeling that P2′s management have wisely declined requests for him to sing the NA or GBA or any other song that requires someone who can adhere somewhat closely to the melody. lol

Kellie deserves the exposure, she’s a very smart cookie playing dumb, and she’s very talented. Good exposure for Cook too.

Great showcase for P2 and Home indeed. I bet it won’t be the bombastic more uptempo version appropriate for the 4th of July performance. Since it’s a tribute, I’m thinking more intimate acoustic-ish version this time.

Yay! I love when Idols get great exposure. :)

Glad everyone but especially Kellie is getting to perform.
P2 is so very forunate to have Home as his song everyone will want to have him sing it at their events to give that feel good all american spirit thing.  He is sitting on a gold mine he would be wise to embrace it.

  • clearone

Yeah!  Can’t wait to see Phillip again on my tv.  :)

  • tomr

    Go Kellie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TheOther

Great to see that they are giving these opprotunities to people who actually are sports fans. Luke Bryan was a big support of Phillip’s on Idol.

  • Anonymous

Do you think that Phillip’s performance will be televised?

  • Anonymous

Since you asked what we “think”, I can answer.  I think it will be televised, due to the game being on Fox, and Phillip and Home being successful Fox products.

  • Anonymous

    It should be, yes

It better be!  I hate when the announcers go to commercials not realizing a lot of people want to hear the songs – even if it is not an Idol performing.

Hahaha. Yeah, please leave NA to David Cook, Carrie Underwood, and the like. I’ll wait to hear how Kellie does before applauding her selection.

That said, I love an artist who refuses to stay within the lines and makes no bones about it. It’s refreshing to see a guy as young as P2 who won’t be molded and is not a jerk about it.

  • OffLeash

P2′s performance will be televised because it will be used for the opening tribute. And also because it says so somewhere lol. Anyway, it’s FOX, of course all the Idols will be shown. :D

There’s a mention for the MLB weekend on the American Idol site that talks about DavidC, Phillip Phillips, Kellie Pickler and Haley Rhineheart being there. http://www.americanidol.com/news/view/pid/9654/

…and Fox4 KC News just mentioned they would be interviewing DavidC
at 9 am on Monday, July 9. Very likely, the other hometown stations will be talking to the other idol participants as well.

BTW – the weather for tomorrow looks to be wretched…but it may ‘cool off’ into the high 80′s. The weather outlook for the next 5 days in Kansas City. http://yfrog.com/ntpfpplj

    Mercy.
