I pulled this item from the comments section of the Jordin Sparks post. She’s not the only Season 6 Idol who’s got some major changes going on in their careers. According to Billboard.biz, Phil Stacey is no longer with Lyric Street Records.

In other news, Billboard.biz has learned that former “American Idol” contestant Phil Stacey has exited Nashville-based Lyric Street Records. A former member of the U.S. Navy, Stacey charted two airplay singles – neither reached the top 25 on Hot Country Songs. His debut album, which was released in May, has sold 36,000 albums, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Phil has told some fans that he’s working on a “Christian venture”, and is continuing with appearances, including serving as Grand Marshall of the Nashville Christmas parade on December 5.

There have been rumors, for awhile now, that Clay Aiken is no longer with RCA–he’s no longer listed on their website as part of their roster–but that has not been confirmed.

Unfortunate for him, but not surprising – they can’t sustain acts with only 36,000 albums sold and little radio play. I agree, he wasn’t made for country…he should have followed Chris Sligh into Christian.

The article made it seem like it was Phil’s decision to leave. I feel bad for Phil because his album was actually a solid country debut with a few potential hits like “Identity” and “Round Here” – it definately could have done better if Lyric Street hadn’t given up on it so fast. They didn’t even release a second single after “If You Didn’t Love Me” which made the Top 30. Anyway, I think that Phil would be better off going the Christian route a la Chris Sligh. Interesting that both Phil and Chris Sligh have sold about 35,000 albums considering that Phil is signed with a major country label and Chris is signed with an independent christian label. Either way, I wish Phil the best of luck in his career and future endeavors.

I’m pretty sure it was Phil’s choice to leave.

It is too bad his country CD didn’t do better sales-wise because it’s very good. I wish him all the best.

I wonder if he has a large recoupment (sp?) to pay or if the label just let him out of the contract with paying anything back.

I don’t own his CD but I wish him well.

wonder what the difference is? I think they are with the same management if I remember last year’s articles. I don’t own either CD but have heard them both on the radio. Sligh is definitely recognizable. Phil just didn’t stand out. I heard on a radio talk show near Ft. Campbell KY that Lyric Street indeed dropped him. It seemed really fast to lose a contract. Is he signed again?

Some people think that Phil didn’t stand out because of the songs he chose for the cd. He stood out to me because I know what he was trying to convey with those songs, which probably a lot of country fans are not used to listening to. Many probably prefer all the drinking, cheating songs to those, like Phil’s, which encourage and talk about love between spouses and between a person and his God. Phil had recently posted a bulletin where he was excited about his future. He has not given any details as to being signed because it is not official yet. We will find out when he is ready to say so, I guess. Concerning him supposedly being dropped by Lyric Street, I feel like they could have done a better job promoting him. There was a lot of promotion in the beginning, when his first single came out; then we his phans would barely hear anything afterwards. His music video went to #18 on cmt. They encouraged him to release his original “Old Glory” when they found out that he had written the song pre-Idol and that it was well-received; but I understand that many stations wouldn’t play it because they didn’t have it. One dj in particular preferred his original version of the song over the redone one, which is on his music myspace and available at iTunes. He would always perform the original at his appearances and of which there is a pre-Idol recording with a montage. He would receive standing ovations for it. Anyway, I can’t wait to see what he will be doing next. He is a great artist and a wonderful person.

not to be mean but i’m not really surprised. poor guy. hopefully he will have better luck with christian music.

I couldn’t warm up to him on the show, but I know he had fans.

I guess we will see how many fans… I wonder if start and stop… and start again will be a downfall for him and if being dropped affected his confidence level. It seems that even making it to the TOP 10 doesn’t mean much – even last season. Wondering why?
