Perez Hilton just posted an “apology” on his site. I’m sure he’s figured out by now that public opinion is not on his side, so he’s apologizing–sort of.   I don’t think it’s enough. He’s going to have to cough up more humility if he wants to convince the public that he’s truly sincere.

He has pledged to give any money he’d win in his lawsuit to charity, so there’s that, but geez, if he’s going to apologize, he’s got to man up and stop whining.   It’s not all about you, Perez.
As a blogger, I’ve always admired the way Perez built his little empire up from nothing, so watching him blow it big time like this is a little depressing, but it’s also a good lesson too–never buy into the hype…

“People make mistakes. I have made many in my life, but this past week I have made more than I can count on one hand.

I am sorry. And I mean it. No one is forcing me to write this. I am not feeling pressured to say this. I am speaking out because I realize that the last few days have been more hurtful to me – and many others – than the repeated blows I suffered to my head in Toronto this past weekend.

I have been filled with incredible sadness and regret.

I am sorry that any good work I have done for promoting equality may be tainted by me reclaiming a hurtful word – that’s been personally used against me and the gay community – to hurt someone that was verbally attacking me. It was stupid.

Apologizing for me is not easy. Writing this was not easy. Life is not easy. But everything happens for a reason and I will take away a lot of valuable lessons from this experience.

Violence is never the answer. Never.

Victims should not be mocked.

The “F” word will never be uttered from my lips again. Just as others use the “N” word to insult and hurt – or as part of their everyday speech – I challenge them to remove it from their vocabulary as well.

Hindsight is always 20/20, they say. I should have been the bigger man and walked away from an unfortunate situation. Instead, I chose – in a very misguided way – to stand up for myself and only made things worse by how I – under pressure and diress – handled the situation.

I am sorry.

I am NOT apologizing to GLAAD. I could care less about them, my former employers.

I am apologizing to the gay community, to anyone who was hurt by my my choice of words, and to all the people who have ever emailed me to thank me for all that I have done to fight for gay rights over the last few years.

I have reached out to Isaiah Washington, someone I incorrectly labeled a homophobe in the past, despite his own public statements that he was not.

I will be donating any moneys collected from my lawsuit against Polo Molina, road manager for the Black Eyed Peas, to the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

And I will continue to speak out for equality and support the great work done by LGBT organizations, such as LAMBDA Legal and HRC.

Sincerely,

Perez”

  • sonyab

Well that’s good. Now he just needs to apologize to Polo Molina and the Black Eyed Peas.

  • lilbrusc102

well, it’s a start, and, honestly, more than I thought he would do…

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Still waiting for the apology to the Toronto police department for encouraging his followers to call on his behalf after they deemed it a non emergency.

This guy is so full of himself. Yucky.

  • linsav

Yeah, especially the part about reaching out to Isaiah Washington.

  • JosieX

I think he will probably come out of it ok. I don’t know much about him, the only times I’ve been on his site is when there is a link to something about Adam. But I see and have seen multitudes talking about how much they can’t stand him, at the same time he has what I understand is one of the most popular sites on the web. I can’t see anyone really getting exercised about picking a bad guy here, they both look like a couple of morons to me. I am more on Perez’ size than the other guy’s though, because as wrong as it is to call someone that name it’s even worse to escalate it to hitting someone.

  • Sunn

To me it read as a mitigated apology. Not good enough Perez.

  • NatX

Perez Hilton … “man” up? Come on, buddy…

I wish Molina would’ve just finished him off. The dude’s a worthless douche who shouldn’t be famous and only is for saying stupid shit under a moniker he borrowed from another famous moron who is famous only for being famous.

That this guy has a voice that anybody gives a third of a cup of rotten runny shit about is sad in its own right.

I wish he’d go get on a DC commuter train, and share a car with the TMZ company picnic.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I am more on Perezà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ size than the other guyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s though, because as wrong as it is to call someone that name ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s even worse to escalate it to hitting someone.

Who is the “other” guy? That’s the problem here. Allegedly, it was a tour manager, not w.i.a. And Perez tweeted that it was w.i.a. That’s not cool. It’s a plea for attention. Because tweeting that a tour manager scraped your face is not as sensational than accusing w.i.a.

  • karend

Hey Perez … how about banning both “F” words? They are reflections of a childish vocabulary and are offensive to many of your readers …

  • LisaE

This self-serving statement may go a long way towards helping fix everything Perez screwed up this week. But he still seems to have no concept of why people weren’t upset – if not downright gleeful – over this episode to begin with. He really doesn’t seem to “get it” and I think that’s sad. He lives in a warped little world and fights dirty with words on a daily basis. Nobody can fight back. Ever. Because then they are just setting themselves up for more ridicule. John Mayer actually said the smartest thing (I know, I know) this week when he said that people didn’t want to see Perez hurt, just to see him “equalized.”

I’m grateful that MJ posted this quote here so I didn’t have to visit Perez’s site. It’s healthier to make a choice to only visit positive websites. Not ones that tear down on a daily basis.

  • LaurelG

So he’s never going to use the “F” word again, and he challenges others to erase the “N” word from their vocabulary. But what about all the other hurtful comments he makes on his blog? His ENTIRE livelihood is built on dealing out the kind of hurt of which he just experienced a small sampling. “Victims should not be mocked,” he says. Yet he creates VICTIMS on a daily basis and mocks them unmercilessly in his blog. The “F” word is not the only abusive slur in the English language, Mario. Maybe in addition to Isaiah, you should reach out to all those others you’ve hurt by calling them sluts, whores, fat, ugly, fugly … you get the picture.

The guy is completely delusional. And just yesterday he was claiming that he never pretended to be a spokesperson for the gay community, but now he will continue to “speak out for equality” and support certain LGBT organizations (obviously omitting GLAAD, because they dared to challenge him). What a small, petty man.

  • ruskimom

Awwww, what if PH threw himself a pity party and nobody came…

  • hypertwink

Interestingly enough, this reminds me of Isaiah Washington. After all hullabaloo that nothing happened or that faggot wasn’t uttered, when everything came out into the light, he put out a statement that was grudging at best because the public perception wasn’t doing him any favors. He’s seeing his little hell kingdom crumble and he’s trying to hang on to his power.

This is a PR thing but you could still see the douchey Perez shine through, especially the dig at GLAAD and that whole thing about victims shouldn’t be mocked. I’d be more sympathetic if he hadn’t done his share of mocking celebrities himself. Heck, his whole career is about mocking people, and using that power to bully everyone. So I think it’s karmic that in a time where he puts himself in the headlines, he is laughed at and tweaked by many celebrities he has screwed over in the past.

  • abbysee

You know, I guess it’s a start. He’s an ass, and he is always going to be an ass, but he did make an attempt, no matter how feeble it was, and it was feeble. Interesting in reaching out to Isaiah Washington after being so over the top about it, for him to use that word was just all kinda lunacy.

He claims he’s the victim? We shall see. I hope the charges are dropped against w.i.a’s manager, and that Perez will STFU at least for a while, and let this just die off quietly. I doubt very seriously that he will get any dough in a civil suit. Just the fact that he blames someone else besides the one who hit him, and he blew it way out of proportion via twitter makes me feel that this wasn’t anything like he says it was. Too many lies and exaggerations. He is small and petty.

  • lostinidol

But he still seems to have no concept of why people werenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t upset – if not downright gleeful – over this episode to begin with. He really doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“get ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and I think thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sad. He lives in a warped little world and fights dirty with words on a daily basis. Nobody can fight back. Ever.

Great point. I think this is why the whole apology seems so lacking. He’s apologizing for calling w.i.a a f**t. How about the thousand of other names he’s called other people on his site for years? Where’s their apology?

Perez is a bully so it should be no surprise that folks aren’t going to shed any tears when a bully finally gets his due. He is completely lacking in empathy so when he now suggests that victims should not be mocked, the irony is obvious. And in the end, the final insult, donating the money to the Matthew Shepard Foundation, as if to suggest that there is some similarities between the persecution of an innocent like Matthew Shepard and what Perez brought on himself. Perez just doesn’t get it.

  • Niall

Perez seems genuinely surprised he wasn’t a more sympathetic figure. I think he’s been in a bubble and was utterly unaware of the distain so many have for him because of how he treats others on his blog. I just don’t think he’ll take the time to examine why he’s so hated and make adjustments. He’ll throw another pity party and blame it on bigotry or a violent American society. Being mocked so harshly after years of being the one doing the mocking had to sting.

  • CRB

Personally, I despise the Clintonesque “mistakes were made” type of apology just on principle. Apologies should be certain, swift and specific. And it can help sell it if you actually mean it.

Perez is an attention whore. A petty, whining, look-at-me attention whore. Did he deserve to get punched out? No. But the problem with drawing attention to oneself by provoking people is that eventually, you’re going to cause somebody who is impetuously violent to act out on you.

  • lostinidol

FairyKing, before you disappear from this universe, I can honestly say that I would not shed any tears if Joan Rivers took it in the eye either, especially with her venomous statements about Johnny Carson yesterday. Some people just beg for it.

  • will

I have reached out to Isaiah Washington, someone I incorrectly labeled a homophobe in the past, despite his own public statements that he was not.

That is absurd. Isaiah Washington WAS a homophobe when he called T.R. Knight a f**got. The fact that Perez now feels some kind of solidarity with him is quite revealing indeed.

  • saga

I don’t know, I’ve had the feeling Perez is slipping lately. His favouritsm is clearly showing in the blog and it has been clear lately (maybe he always was) that he is one vindictive, mean guy. Or maybe that’s just me thinking so. He’s posted a lot of things where his view didn’t really agree with the general public and then suddenly changed his mind. I might be colored by his coverage of Adam, but I think he looked kind of silly in that debate, the posting of pics from that gay sex video was another ehh moment and now this.

  • http://www.fatladysings.us TFLS

And in the end, the final insult, donating the money to the Matthew Shepard Foundation, as if to suggest that there is some similarities between the persecution of an innocent like Matthew Shepard and what Perez brought on himself.

    This. What you said, Lostinidol.

  • http://www.fatladysings.us TFLS

Damn. Shoulda put the above in quotes. *sigh* Been a long day.

  • will

liberty, THANK YOU for that link. That is utterly hilarious. He really is a first-class hypocrite, isn’t he?

  • bambambam

    Once again, I call bullshit.

PH admits he provoked and escalated the situation and chose the word faggot purposely.

Open and shut case. You can’t separate a purposeful provocation from the physical assault.

It was PH who was gleeful in twittering publicly and making a boo-hoo rat-fuck video instead of going right to the police or the hospital. Now he’s still trying to work the angles.

But that’s not his talent. His only talent is being a two-bit bitch. MJ, you can’t possibly identify with him as a blogger. You’re in communications and managing a barrel of monkeys like us posters. He’s in tabloid-style bullying and exploitation and making himself into a celebrity by trading in the misfortunes and stupidity of other people. Two different jobs entirely.

  • WestiesRule

This is what negative, bullying, attention ho’s like Perez want and a bunch of you fell right in the trap. Is it really necessary to swear at each other and then start name the calling yourselves? (and I’ve been known to drop plenty of f bombs so I’m not offfended by the lingo when not aimed at people) I love this blog and all MJ is doing is giving us the goods. Perez is a sad, sad man…..

  • BootStar

Never liked him. Still don’t. Dude is first and foremost a narcissist, something I don’t think you need to worry about, mj!

  • http://www.myspace.com/veronique0882 llamacook

I guess I am one of the sole people is on Perez’s side. Well sort of at least. I just believe violence is always wrong and I do agree with Perez that words should never lead to violence no matter what is sad. Yes Perez was very wrong for saying what he said but it didn’t deserve to be punched in the face. That said, I am dissappointed but not shocked how Perez handled things after the fact. His first video blog while I understand he probably needed to vent and he is clearly truly upset, it shouldnt have been posted. And yes he is a drama queen. I’m not a fan of his at all. I am happy he at least did this apology but I really don’t want him to apologies to the Black Eye Peas or their manager because well they do have fault in this whole situation too. I am sorry but if Will I Am hadn’t done his blogs, this whole thing wouldn’t have gotten this huge I think.

  • poporange

So let get this straight Perez whom on his blog trashes peeps right and left provoked the BEP dude..called someone an F and got punched….The decided to have fans call the canadian authorites ,that they really loved not..Now he is apologizing when the sympathy is not going his way…Just one question is there a picture of something of him getting punched?

  • t2

    Dear Perez,

How about saving the American taxpayer’s some money (there’s a slight deficit if you haven’t heard) and just withdrawing your frivolous lawsuit. Then just make a donation to charity.

    t2

  • hypertwink

A friend of mine said that it;s just fitting that someone who draws penises on people’s pictures is a dick himself. I’m not one to encourage violence but I do agree with many about the situation — you’re either slow or bulletproof if you think that brandishing the word faggot like a weapon, won’t get you beat down.

  • poporange

T2–only a classy individual would do that I think Perez would have to look that word up..

Hyperlink -Maybe Perez has what Frued called p envy that is why the drawings?

Just one question is there a picture of something of him getting punched?

That is absurd. Isaiah Washington WAS a homophobe when he called T.R. Knight a f**got. The fact that Perez now feels some kind of solidarity with him is quite revealing indeed.

Exactly. The Isaiah situation was no doubt brought to his attention by many posters so he had to address it, but by aligning himself with that guy, well, it is yet another reminder of how completely unprincipled Mario really is.

Mario seems to be having a bad year overall, image-wise, and I, for one, think it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. While I don’t condone violence, everything post-slap, where he is failing miserably at the pr game, I think that is fair game for derision.

  • weareallinnocent

    :rolleyes_tb: :thumbdown_tb:

    That is all.

(Actually, I commented on this on the other Perez thread and I’m sparing you all a repeat performance here. LOL)

  • JustWatching

I’m surprised someone hasn’t punched him in the face before this.

“”"I am more on Perezà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ size than the other guyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s though, because as wrong as it is to call someone that name ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s even worse to escalate it to hitting someone.”"”

Me too, I still and will always think Perez is a disgusting pig but the guy that hit him is a bigger pig. He brought himself to a level way below Perezs and that is pretty low. The Pea brain allowed Perez to win by resorting to violence and i sure as heck dont want Perez to win anything but NEVER hit someone EVER – I am surprised also that he was never hit before either but I think he wasnt because most of the people Perez are around are above that sort of thing – just call him a name back or the video Efron did, they do things like that not resort to being a bully and hitting. I dont care if Perez had just a tiny scratch, seriously – DONT EVER PUT YOUR HANDS ON ANOTHER PERSON IN ANGER – JUST DONT.

  • will

Just to explain what I was referring to in my comment at 5:22 am, this post by Perez displays his hypocrisy. Look at the stance he took regarding an earlier incident involving Sharon Osbourne:

    http://perezhilton.com/2009-03-03-charm-school-ho-files-lawsuit-against-sharon-osbourne

  • tinawina

Will, that was the best link ever! LOL. They should put that up during his trial as exhibit A.

ETA: I meant his old blog, not the one with him getting punched. LOL.

  • agathe.hb

You know, what/who Perez reminds me of? Gollum. Always hurt by bad peoplesies and hobbitsies and musiciansies….. Always conniving, always hateful, always scared….

  • http://www.traceythesafetylady.com TraceytheSafetyLady

I wonder why his apology has to drag so many other people and non-related issues into it? What does this have to do with the “N” word. The “F” word that he used is the one he is supposed to be apologizing for. Why bring Washington into this, because they both used a hurtful slur, so now he can relate? Will he be calling the Miss USA or America, whatever, runner up, Carrie Prejean, and reach out to her for her “supposedly” evil and hurtful words? Both of them have “hurt” homosexuals with their words, right?

One of the most evil things that he did was purposely lying on wil.i.am just for the pubicity. He knows the difference between him and his manger. He did it on purpose. Wonder if he could be sueed for libel and slander, he knew he was lying when he said it…. It could have hurt wil.i.am’s reputation if people believed it.
