The Sing Off winners, Pentatonix, debut their new music video for “Aha!” their Imogene Heap cover, a cut on their recent debut EP.

The story has a SPOOKY HALLOWEEN THEME! Will the couple at the center of the action survive the attack of the 5 zombies? Maybe, maybe not!

    Just curious, do these groups make money singing?  Do they make money from the CDs?

    Pentatonix is touring, and the show near me sold out well in advance. Since they’re an a capella group I’d imagine touring overhead is pretty minimal.

    Their label deal is via Madison Gate, which is an “indie” subsidiary of Sony Pictures entertainment (it releases albums from a lot of Sony Pictures film and TV properties). The EPs are pretty cheap to produce, but I also imagine that they got a small advance. Whether they recouped enough to get royalties on the EPs is an open question (and of course, some of the money has to pay the songwriters for their cover versions). The band members who write originals will get songwriting royalties for those.

    I’m also sure they’ve monetized their Youtube videos, which tend to go viral.

    Wow they’re amazing. I believe this is like the first time Mitch has had a full on lead and his voice is lovely he deserves more. And they really should get some original songs out there. I’m like no way I can’t believe they’re doing that w/ just their voices that’s incredible. They deserve some serious recognition.

    That song was awesome!  Their voices are perfection together! 

    They definitely deserve more recognition!  I bet the Grammy audience would not believe that they are an acapella group !

    They are so good. I love Mitch’s voice, love this song off the EP, and love the fun video. My kids absolutely love singing this in the car – who wouldn’t with that bass line?! Can’t wait to see them, finally, in December!

    For those who want to know how they make money–

    They have an EP on iTunes. It was #14 on the albums chart the day it came out.

    They are currently on tour. They’re not playing in huge venues, but they are consistently selling out the shows. A lot of the tour stops are in or close to colleges, which is their own age cohort.

    You can get all the info you need if you follow them on any social media. They are very good about updating their fans on FB, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
