I hear that Mary Murphy, who has been a staple on the show from the very beginning, may be leaving, and Fox is looking for a new judge addition to join co-creator/executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. I hear the network and series producers 19 Entertainment and Dick Clark Prods. are eyeing Paula Abdul, though sources caution that no formal discussions have been held.

Paula has already guest judged on So You Think You Can Dance in 2013 and a full time judge on the Australian version. She also guest judged on another Dick Clark prods show, Dancing with the Stars).

But would she seriously consider signing another contract with FOX TV?

Paula’s last regular gig with the network was as a judge on the ill fated Simon Cowell produced, X Factor in 2011. She only lasted one season before she was unceremoniously dumped, however. Before that, Paula parted ways with American Idol after season 8 when the network was unwilling to cough up a raise for the veteran judge.

To be fair, Paula’s bad blood with Idol happened during Nigel’s two year hiatus from the show. And of course, he has NOTHING to do with any of Simon Cowell’s projects. He may be less prone to throw her under the bus.

As an experienced choreographer, Paula’s real talent lies on the dance floor. She’s a much more astute judge in that realm. I think she’d be a fine addition to the panel. What do you think? Paula yay or nay?
