Paula Abdul: FOX May Bring Back Original Judges to American Idol

James Corden’s thing on his new CBS Late Late Show is to interview his guests together. On Tuesday night, it was So You Think You Can Dance and former American Idol judge, Paula Abdul with Glee star/author Chris Colfer. The conversation naturally gravitated to Paula because she was a huge pop star before Chris was even born!

Chris was there to promote his children’s book, The Land of Stories: Beyond the Kingdoms, while Paula chatted about that time she became best friends with Gene Kelly. James asked her about the craziest fan encounter she ever had, and I wondered if he actually ran that by her people first. AWKWARD. But she handled it.

Paula shared a story about embarrassing herself on So You Think You Can Dance Australia with a very poor choice of words. She said she was “rooting” for one of the dancers, and it turns out that word means something very different down under, than it does in the States. James was bleeped when he tried to explain. Even in “safe harbor” he couldn’t say it!

Paula did let slip something interesting. She said, “I do know that FOX is trying to figure out if maybe the original three would come back for maybe a day or so…I don’t know.” James joked that FOX better pay her more than Randy Jackson, but maybe not as much as Simon Cowell. Sounds about right.

One thing Chris has in common with Paula–the both dance! One of the first routines he learned on Glee was the “Single Ladies” dance. “Put a chubby 18 year old in a leotard and send him on his way. That was terrible!”
