LMAO. That seems to be the standard for finale right? Here’s an interesting tidbit, every time an idol has sung that song at finale, they’ve come in as runner up.

Is this the first time that Simon Fuller is choosing? We’ve had producers choice in the past and Clive’s Choice in the past. But is this the first time it’s creator’s choice? Should be interesting dynamic…though I’m not usually a fan of Clive’s choices.

If the coronation song is only one song and the idols have to sing it straight with no re-arrangment, than Kris is done I think. It is a given that Adam bests Kris in the vocals territory. Remember when Jordin and Blake both sang the same version of “This Is My Now”? The song was clearly suited for Jordin and it just sounded awkward coming from Blake.

I want Adam to sing either REM, Radiohead, or Chris Isaak as his choice! Still waiting for Wicked Game!

Would Kris be able to sing one of his own songs? I would love to hear him sing Wastin’ Time. I’ve known of Kris for a long time. He was one of my cousins groomsmen in his wedding and Wastin’ Time has been one of my favorites long before Idol.

At least it’s Simon Fuller picking the songs, and not Clive. Simon Fuller is at least half Clive’s age (has he reached 100 yet?). Hopefully we’ll get something more current. I’m betting on no repeat performances from either finalist.

They’re gonna have 3 songs PLUS Carrie Underwood singing “Home Sweet Home,” all in one hour?! OMG, I can’t believe it! How in the world is Bruce gonna manage the pace of the show with SEVEN songs?!

On a less sarcastic note – I am feeling shades of season 6 with the coronation song. One song, no rearranging. I could be wrong, but that’s the gut feeling I have.

It’ll be interesting if they sing the same coronation song. Because even though they’ll be singing the same lyrics, it’ll be two completely different songs.

And I actually think that could work in Kris’ favor. Especially since he’s going 2nd. A understated song about peace, love and rainbows seems to be much more radio friendly than whatever Adam will probably do to it.

Either make is a sappy ballad or (and I hope) rock the shit out of those same peace, love and rainbows. But I think that’s less likely.

Especially if Kara wrote it expecting Danny to be in the finale. His voice is more powerful than Kris’s. She could have geared it for Danny’s voice. But at the same time, Kris could turn it into something soft and tender.

LOS ANGELES – “American Idol” finalists Kris Allen and Adam Lambert will be opening up for a few music legends.

Lionel Richie, Carlos Santana, Cyndi Lauper, Queen Latifah, Black Eyed Peas and Keith Urban are among the artists scheduled to perform on Wednesday’s finale before either Allen or Lambert is crowned the eight season champion.

Previous “Idol” winners David Cook and Carrie Underwood will also croon on the two-night finale. Underwood will perform on Tuesday’s episode, which will feature Lambert, a 27-year-old theater actor from San Diego, and Allen, a 23-year-old college student from Conway, Ark., duking it out for a record contract and the title of “American Idol.”

Kris has basicly done the same thing thoughout — just sometimes with a guitar, sometimes not and (unfortuneatly) once with the piano. I guarantee that he will not play the piano again. That was not a good choice.

And then the much anticipated Corination song — thank God Kara is a much better songwriter than judge and it should be better the the usual drek. If it like the songs she has written for Celine D., advantage Adam. If it is like the songs she’s written for Hillary Duff, the Kris will be in better shape. My guess is that Kris will need to at least adjust the song a bit because most of the songs she writes actually require an above average vocal range. And Kara didn’t seem to think about Kris’ vocal range that when she gave Kris “Apologize”. Plus, I assume she was sure it was for Danny and Adam, so it wouldn’t have been a big issue.

I don’t think Kara only writes for those with above average voices, especially since Hillary Duff and Ashlee Simpson has below average voices! However, I don’t think she wrote the finale song with Kris in mind since they were obviously pushing for Danny and Adam only. I would hope/expect that they are allowed to work with Kara and change up the song since she keeps talking about artisty and what not. I also hope they don’t end the show with the coronation song since that will be boring! and I also hope that they both choose new songs!

now I’m worried though. I want kris to do great, even if he doesn’t win, so he can go out with the bang he deserves.

But he can’t do everything well, and neither can Adam. I just hope Kris isn’t saddled with something utterly terrible from Simon Fuller. I think Kara, though she was in the Gokey camp, does know Kris’s strengths. Though she gave him some really stupid criticism (all that harping about “Apologize! Get over it, sister!) she also got very excited about his talents now and then.

I think he should do something new and knock-you-socks-offy. He adores Stevie Wonder, why not something Wonder-full? He could kill on his own arrangements of “My Cheri Amour” or “Shunshine of My Life” or whatever. When you’ve got a Stevie tune, you’re halfway there.

Well, it seems to be done differently every year. Last year, the Davids got to each pick one song from the top 10 finishers in the songwriter’s contest and they could do whatever they wanted with the arrangement. DC made his, which in its original form sounded like more of a country song, into an upbeat rocker. The only one they couldn’t pick was Magic Rainbow – which was only sung by DC after he won, since it was the song that actually won the songwriting contest.

In season 6, there was one coronation song, “This Is My Now”, which was the song that won the songwriter’s contest. Blake said after the finale that he wanted to do some rearranging for his version and he was not allowed to do that. He had to sing it as written, and right before Jordin sang it, and it so obviously fit her vocal style to a tee. His, uh, not so much.

In season 5, Taylor and Kat each had a coronation song. Apparently, the top 3 were all given (?) one, and the one Taylor ended up singing was Elliott’s but Taylor apparently hated his original one so much that he insisted on singing the one Elliott had (I’m not sure if this is completely correct, someone refresh my memory if I’m wrong. This is pretty much the story I remember though.).

In season 4, Carrie and Bo had the same song. I think I remember them NOT singing it back to back, but I’m not sure.

In season 3, Fantasia and Diana had the same song. It was written by season 1′s Tamyra Gray, and seemed to really be tailored for Fantasia, who really delivered on it, actually. Diana had the range for it, but it wasn’t her style, so it wasn’t as believable as it was for Fantasia, who really put some soulful, gospelly, emotional grit into the song.

In season 2, Clay and Ruben had different songs. I didn’t watch that season, but it didn’t matter if it was back to back since they were performing different song.

In season 1, Kelly and Justin had the same song. I didn’t watch that season either, so I’m not sure if they performed them back to back.

Last year the finale duets were Cook/Archie, Cook/ZZTop, Archie/OneRepublic, Syesha/Seal, Brooke/Graham Nash, Carly/Michael Johns (and oddly Castro by himself). So they went as deep as Top 7 but F8, 9 and 10 (Kristy Lee, Ramiele. and Chikezie did group numbers only)

And big group sing-ins to random celebrities Donna Summer, George Michael, and Bryan Adams. And Jordin Sparks and Carrie got to sing their own thing with out “help” from the Top 10, hee!

So: Adam and Kris are bound to get a celebrity duet. Um, maybe Kris and Keith Urban? Adam and Cyndi?

Seems like Allison, Danny and Matt most likely to, as well. Will Lil and Anoop get to sing–hopefully not with one another? Will Scott get his own lil inspirational spot (I bet)?

Yeah, Blake looked all kinds of uncomfortable singing it straight. In the name of fairness, I hope they don’t pull that with Kris. I can understand them not wanting it changed up drastically, like turned into a trip hop song or something, but at least let him play his own instrument if he chooses. And I say that as someone who is mostly rooting for Adam.

I think for kris to keep the momentum he’s gonna have to really re arrange another song. If he sings all songs in his genra (ie jason mraz, matt nathanson, eric hutchinson) they will just complain about it being like the original. I think he could do something along the lines of this and obviously put a few glory notes in there and he could keep his momentum.

I think all of us pulling for Kris need to be realistic. You can rest assured that the deck will be stacked against him.

1. No, he won’t be allowed to do his own arrangement of Kara’s song. Had Danny been in the finals then he and Adam would have been allowed to do their own arrangement. See, this is a decision they get to make now that they know Kris is in the finals. If they wanted this to be on the up-and-up, she would have written the song long before they knew who the Top Twelve were. And they would have announced in advance: yes, you can change it; no, you can’t change it. That way, the song and the rules would have not been manipulated for any finalist.

2. Four-hour voting. That was started last year expressly to help Cook. And it will also hurt Kris this year, as it did Archie. Kris’s tweens, mothers, grandmothers and casual voters will not stay up until the voting is over at 2 a.m. At best, they have been used to voting for two hours –until midnight. That’s sort of reasonable. But Adam will pile up the votes in the final 2 hours of voting. At the two-hour mark last year, it started trending Cook’s way until the large gap between them merged.

3. Fuller will be certain to choose a crappy song for Kris.

4. At least 3 of the judges and perhaps all 4 will GUSH over Kris as they did Archie last year and say he won the night. That will only spur on Adams’ voters.

Until the producers and judges shamelessly manipulated this year’s competition, I was rather indifferent. I could have lived with Adam winning even though I’m not much of a fan. But given how they have run the show this year, — far more manipulative than any previous year — I’m now so pissed that I will go all out for Kris. I would kill to see America stick it to the producers and judges. Plus, I just happen to think Kris would be a terrific Idol on many fronts.

I can see them letting Kara coach the contestants on how to get the most out of the song and what vocal flourishes to add/subtract, but as much fire as she’s been under this year, if it’s at least a semi-decent song, they’re going to want the audience to hear it sung as it was written.

No, it wasn’t. Four hour voting in the finale has been in effect since at LEAST season 4, probably back even further. I know it was in season 6 because they had THREE nights of it then – Idol Gives Back Night (because companies were donating based on how many votes were received), then the next week since they didn’t kick anyone off on IGB night and combined the two night’s of voting, so of course another 4 hour voting window would be the ONLY fair thing to do, then again on the finale night.

I’m pretty sure the margin between the two was significant FAR before the two hour mark. I started voting after I looked at DI the first time – around 30 minutes after the show ended, and was STUNNED at how far ahead he was, based on the “knockout” Archuleta had apparently just delivered.

Look, I think Kris is going to have disadvantages too but not everything is a conspiracy theory. Adam will have disadvantages too – you know, like people hating him and voting for Kris so the gay boi, the aberration on society, does not win. :rolleyes_tb: And that’s not a conspiracy theory. Just attitudes I’ve observed over the course of the season.

Kris is a good singer, but AI is looking for sensational right? I’ve never watched AI before this season, but I’m totally hooked because of Adam. Adam is a super star in the making, nobody can say Kris is better than Adam with a straight face, right?

I think Adam is the victim and not Kris. Most articles are using the judges pimping stick to beat Adam and the gay story is the last straw. Kris not being able to sing any song is an easy load in comparison.

Lionel Richie, Carlos Santana, Cyndi Lauper, Queen Latifah, Black Eyed Peas and Keith Urban are among the artists scheduled to perform on Wednesday’s finale before either Allen or Lambert is crowned the eight season champion.

The rumor is that Allison will be paired with Cindy Lauper. I could definetly see a cool jam with Santana and Kris. I don’t see any of these artists dueting with Adam and there are several rumors about Bowie but it seems too crazy to be true.

I think all of us pulling for Kris need to be realistic. You can rest assured that the deck will be stacked against him.

I’d say that Adam’s and Kris’s fans are generally the same type of people, not as drastically different demographics that the fans of Cook and Archuleta were last year.
Randy declared on American Idol Extra that he thinks that Kris actually has a shot at winning…
And Simon deemed Kris’s “Heartless” the best performance of the season. Sounds to me like they’re both on the Kris train at this point…
Plus, corny coronation songs would tend to fit Kris’s style a lot better than Adam’s, unless of course Kara is a dumb-ass and wrote it just for Adam.

Sarah — I checked. four-hour voting started with Katherine and Taylor. Season 6. So I was wrong, it did not start with Archie and Cook. It does not go back to season 4 or earlier. But regardless of conspiracy theories, the four-hour voting will favor Adam.

Do you mean he’ll choose a crappy song on purpose? Because, no. The producers/creators/judges don’t pick horrible songs so that the contestant will do bad. I genuinely feel they pick songs the idol’s can excel at.

Sometimes those songs suck. But that has more do with crappy personal taste.

Either way, no matter who wins, the publicity is going to be crazy afterwards. With the headlines reading “Gay, Jewish Lambert Wins” or “Underdog Allen pulls Upset over Gay, Jewish Lambert.” Both are going to get recording contracts and they’ll each have an album out by the end of the year.

And Sarah is right. If there were only a million votes separating Adam and Kris last Tuesday. Then it’s possible the race is closer than we think. Possible. Maybe. A very little.

If you like country music, you should give him a listen. He’s huge in that genre. I’m a country music fan, though, so I don’t know if many people who aren’t would know of him. They’ve probably at least heard the name because of Nicole Kidman, I would think.

Ryan just said on LKL that they will both be singing the same “winners” song (didn’t say if they can re-arrange) and their favorite of the season – so I guess not one that we haven’t heard yet. (The third song is Fullers choice).

Ryan called into the LKL piece with Justin, Kim Caldwell, and Elliott, and he that the first round of songs will be the contestants choice, their favorite from the season. So looks like no new song. DAMN. IT! The 2nd song would be Simon Fuller’s choice, and the 3rd song would be the coronation song which would be the same for both contestants.

Urban’s a huge star and his style is an excellent match with Kris. As for fame–dude’s married to Nicole Kidman; he’s whatever list is beyond A List celebrity. Some peeps were jonesing for Kris to do a Keith Urban song during performances. He could have gotten paired up with some classic from the 1970s like many of the Idols have been in finales (Lionel Richie!), instead he gets someone who’s awesome, great looking and current.

You’re in for a treat. Keith Urban is one of the best live acts in ALL genres of music and it’s going to be a big treat seeing him sing with Kris. He’s a really generous duet partner, he plays a killer guitar, he’s got a real good voice, and he is JOY on stage. I can’t describe it any other way. He’s amazing and IMO this is going to be a show highlight. I don’t know too many people who don’t know Keith Urban’s name but even if people don’t know his music I’d gladly sacrifice that for the kind of performance this’ll be.

If you’ve never heard Keith Urban’s music check out You’ll Think Of Me, which Kris would sound great on. Also check out Days Go By, Stupid Boy, I Told You So, Better Life, Making Memories Of Us, and Raining On Sunday. Stylewise this is a great match IMO. Keith has always been on the pop/rock side of country and he’s not too country these days.

“Falling Slowly” is a big hit with the public, but I’m not sure the song is big enough for a finale. Plus, we heard it all through his “visit home package”.

Some options I think might work:
- “Ain’t No Sunshine” – Pros: It’s been a while since we heard it, it was a great success and people love that song. Plus, he could do it on the piano and free up the guitar for his other number Con: It’s been done to death
- “Man in the Mirror” – Pros: It’s been a long while, it was the song that captured him is original audience, he can play the guitar this time. Con: I’m not sure it was his best number.
- “She Works Hard For Her Money” – Pros: Another Kris original and it’s popular. Cons: He didn’t sing it that long ago

Off the Wall Suggestion: “Come Together” – this time, sing it acoustic. People may love that he “revisited” the song and improved on his original version of it.

-yeah but this is a year for change in america….who would have thought a black man could win pres? i dont know what you mean by FOX not allowing a out gay man to win…its happened in Britain and Canada for instance. The show is run by British producers. I like the idea of Adam repeating Mad World. Hopefully he can hit that last note this time, and make the performance even better than the first time.

If Adam is serious about winning this he won’t be performing RoF. My money would be on MadWorld so he can hit that awesome final note live and during the show or WLL….but he just performed that a couple of weeks ago. I go with MadWorld since it is the one that garnered him such raves yet so many missed because of the show running over.

As for Kris, I really liked Come Together and think it deserves another shot.

This might suck to some but it’s an opportunity for them to nail and improve on their best moments. I think a lot will depend on the tempo of the other two songs chosen for them.

With Adam, I think he needs to avoid hard rock. We’ve had two weeks of that already. So that I think that rules out “Cryin”, “Whole Lotta Love” and “Satisfaction”. Probably “Born to Be Wild” too.

“Feeling Good” got him in the bottom 2 and “Play That Funky Music” is just too hokey (even if he did a good version, it’s still a hokey song).

“Mad World” is obviously his epic moment, but again, it might not be the best idea to try to repeat it. Better to remember that original moment (I’m not sure that you should ever repeat your absolute best song) and add another one.

“Tracks of My Tears” would be an excellent choice. In the same vein as “Mad World”, but perhaps not as well known.

I think “Black and White” might also be a fun choice because it’s a bit uptempo without being all rocky. The only problem is that it might be too much like a “we love everybody” coronation song.

Oh, I don’t particularly think either Adam or Kris are being victimized. Personally I could care less if Adam is gay or bi or whatever. I like the guy. I like his personality and his singing. I like Kris too. I like his mellowness and how he works a song. And, I think they like and respect each other.

People recognize Adam and Kris are very different performers; valid in their own styles. I grew up listening to some great music in the 70′s…we had our glam rockers, our singer/songwriters, and our guys who were musicians first and singers second. There was room for them all to be successful.

So, I don’t care who wins. I’ll be happy with either and I think Adam and Kris will be very happy for whichever one of them wins. I just hope they are given decent songs to sing and nothing really sappy. I hate the sappy stuff.

Kris Should NOT sing Heartless again. Would he be that dumb? I hope not. Kat Mcphee sang “Over The Rainbow” for the finale after garnering rave reviews for it on Top 3 night. And than she lost. Yea Kris, not a good move. Take note.

Jordin repeated “I Who Have Nothing” which was considered her moment song of the season. How many weeks ago before the finale was that?

No way will Adam do RoF. He’s proven all season long that he isn’t an idiot, and he knows (now) that song was way dangerous. He’s said he wants to do it on tour, and that’s smart: he obviously loves it, but by that point, doing it can’t hurt him any more.

I second Kirsten’s idea that he do his repeat in a different style, but I’m going with “If I Can’t Have You.” He’s done it gorgeous, now I want to see him get his Disco!Freak on.

You know, the clue was about a Little Richard influenced blue eyed singer who is male. I think. It was on JoesPlace, but I could be misremembering it exactly. I think someone trotted out some random list, which had Bowie and Jagger fitting the description, and Bowie was the more likely of the two to do an appearance (in most people’s thinking), then it kept going from there with Under Pressure.

Definately a possibility. Jordin tweeted completely out-of-the-blue during finale rehearsal time that she loved their new song, which hasn’t been released yet. It’s only been leaked to youtube. So, it does make me wonder if they aren’t doing something together.

The more I think about it. The more I like the thought of Adam opening the show with Mad World. I realllly don’t want to see Tracks of My Tears again.

Simon Fuller as the producer picker has at least a chance of being much better then Clive Davis.

But I’m very sorry they’re going back to reprises. They’re a total waste.

And no real, new contestant’s choice song means the chances of anything *really* interesting just disappeared. No chance for a “World I Know” outside the judges’ control.

And apparently, going back to the hack trick of having the damn winner’s song three times in 2 nights, killing off the one little thing they did last year that made TOML okay, which is tie it memorably to a huge moment of good feeling.

The Kara song, sung twice, will be stupid. The reprises will be just ok. Hope Fuller’s picks aren’t too lame.

I wish this show weren’t so damn lazy. They must not have wanted to bother with having a couple of decent coronation songs to fit to finalists when with one they have less effort. And doing the work to clear new songs one more week was too much.

Well, it will still be a show with Kris and Adam, and that along will be great.

I hope Simon Fuller will pick a slow/ballad song for Adam with Adam doning a clean cut image with no guyliner. He’s more handsome without make-up and his appeal will exude to all generations. Remember that he got standing ovation for Mad World and Track of my tears (from the mentor himself). It was also when he sang a ballad at Disco night that Simon said that his vocals are immaculate It’s okay for me if all his songs in the finals will be ballad since he no longer needs to showcase his vocal powers. We all know that he is capable of doing that. He needs to touch the hearts of mainstream America and show his soft side and prove his detractors wrong that he is too shouty. He needs to lower his bar a little to match Kris so that people won’t accuse him of being showy or overpowering. Kris will be the underdog if he dominates the night and people like the underdog to win. The secret in winning the finale is touching the people’s heart through your song.

He’s in LA recording for his new album … UK producer Trevor Horn is producing it but apparently they’re working on it at Capital Records in LA.

The Bowie appearance has come from a number of places.

1. “Ain’t No Sunshine”
2. “Heartless” – but only if it has been rearranged. Too soon for the same thing.

For Adam, his choices are more wide open.
1. “Track of My Tears” would be ideal. It was a defining moment for him
2. “Mad World” – Obvious choice, actually, so that makes me think he won’t pick it.
3. “Whole Lotta Love” – He was super excited for this one, so this may be it.

Anyway, I was thinking since they’re not allowed to re-arrange the coronation songs, the only way they can showcase their abilities and originality is through their own songs, so if they re-arrange songs they have already sung, it can still come off as new-sounding.

So if it’s allowed, why not
Kris – Apologize – he does acoustic this time, to get Kara and Randy’s postitive comments? Problem is, some people might say it’s a cop-out.

Adam – Any song he’s done this season, but rearrange to be the opposite of the way he sang it the first time. He could even slow down “Slow Ride”, and sing it by himself this time. This way, he can also make it into a shout-out to Allison and her fans, thus getting their votes.

JMO, of course. I’m not very musical when it comes to re-arrangements and I’m always amazed by Adam and Kris.

Kris will be himself and he is VERY singer-song writer. He will be what he has been on the show. Sometimes you will see him on the piano, sometimes playing the guitar and other times he will be by himself. I can see him really blossoming into one of the biggest artist out there because his fans are music lovers that will buy music (AKA the Starbucks demographic). The other part of his fan group are teen/college aged girls that will surely keep him on Top 40 radio. I am eager to hear him work with Jamie Foxx and other hip hop artist.

ITA. “The Starbucks Demographic” is the perfect way to put it – that’s the phrase I’ve been looking for all season and could never figure out!

I would LOVE to hear Kris do an acoustic version of Man in the Mirror. His performance during his homecoming visit was really striking, full of energy, and it wasn’t shown on TV. It showed off his singing and guitar skills. His semi-final performance was months ago, most of us had no idea who he was, and his voice was somewhat overpowered by the band, but people still liked it enough to vote him through to the finals. I think it could be a nice “full circle” moment for him to sing it again, but with more of his own unique spin on it than he could put into it for the semis.

I have no suggestions for Adam- he’s made great song choices all season, and I hope he can turn the repeat song, if they really have to do a repeat, into a surprise too. I think both of these guys are talented enough to be able to do multiple arrangements of the same song to keep it fresh. If he has to do a repeat, I’d choose Ring of Fire, but with a straight/romantic arrangement, as others have said. (Guess I did have a suggestion after all!)

I think they might put Kris with Santana, but it would be a huge mistake to have him tackle Smooth. There are a lot of other song that suit his style more. No, no, no …. Kris should not go into Rob Thomas space.

I think that Adam and Carlos would make a better combinations. And Kris’ voice would work well with Cindy Laupers — particurly if you think about Cindy standards. But the Idol produces lack imagination so they’ll probable put Adam and Cindy together. And saddle Kris with something that doesn’t work for him — like the Danny duet.

Well if what Ryan says is true that’s a bummer.
For Adam, his pick should really depend on Fuller’s pick. I mean if Fueller picks a slow song and he has to sing what probably will be a dreary ballad, Adam has to pick one of his up tempo numbers, IMO in that scenario it will come down to WLL or BoW.
If Fuller decides as I suspect to pick a rock song, then Adam will probably pick MW or TOMT because Adam wants to win this thing.

I don’t know about Kris, he has two different cards, re arranging songs with the guittar or ballad boy, depending on Fuller’s choice, he will pick the other one.

Oh no no no no….NOT.A.GOOD.IDEA, IMO. The judges are going to have a field day making comments like “too theatrical”, “over-the-top” and such.

But it would be fun if it could be done. 1. A couple of Kris fans have writen a number of comments that I summerize as “they’re not being fair to Kris”.

To be frank, I think that the Judges, Ryan and the Idol machine has been working their tails off for the past few days to make sure that this is a very competitive final. I have not heard one negative comment about Kris, only positive comments. My belief is they think it’s good for ratings. I can list a number of direct and indirect action that have occurred that might depress Adam’s vote.

2. The concept that the 4 hour voting window is bad for Kris is foolish. Kris’ fans have not only worked hard to build a grassroots organization of automated voters (no one has to stay up if your computer is voting), his fan sites are actively promoting methods to allow International voters to vote for Kris by computer (AKA cheating) and even have a formal battle plan. Adam has many more voters but many of them are new to the AI world and they don’t know that they need to vote a lot. Hopefully the folks at Telescope have a way to ID these computer generated votes and chuck them out.

3. Finally, the concept that Kris will be a successful recording artist and Adam won’t can only come from studied ignorance about the world music market.

Perhaps this “Starbucks” idea originated with the comparisons to Jason Mraz since Jason gained recognition after playing in the independent coffeehouse scene in San Diego for a couple of years. But I can’t see Kris sharing a concert bill with the Dave Mathews Band like Jason does.

4. I have played concert and jazz piano for a long time. I know a little about this area. Scott was an excellent “pop” pianist. Matt was a nice stylist on the keyboards. Kris, who is musically gifted, need to either work on his piano or stick to the guitar.

I’m pretty sure if I trolled the Adam fan boards/sections I would find similar instructions for his fans. This is hardly a new thing and Adam fans are not stupid.

And many of them are old hands that have been in the trenches for seasons and know exactly how to vote a lot. And how to tell the newbies how to do it.

I don’t think any Idol fan base owns all the crazies, fanatics or “cheaters”. Any sizeable fan base will have their fair share. The “whose-fans-are-more-whacko” battles happen every year, but I’m not sure they are ever won.

I also think Kris should do Ain’t no Sunshine. It’s the only song of his I actually liked. Adam should probably do Mad World or Tracks of my Tears unless Simon Fuller’s song for him is a ballad. I hate his version of ROF and doubt he’d risk doing it again since it’s a big turn off for a lot of people.

I like the idea of Keith Urban being on the show but not so keen on him doing a duet with Kris.

1. I have seen Jason Mraz in concert and Kris cannot really compare right now. Perhaps in the future. But Kris has some traction with that demographic (younger than the Starbucks crowd IMO). i could see him doing a song like The Script’s The Man who can’t be moved. or similar from Simon Fuller.

2. I think Simon Fuller might give Adam a rock classic, and then he might do MW again. I do think alot of people missed seeing it, at least on tv, although it is risky to try to get the same response (guarantee that Simon will not do a SO again). so not sure what Adam would do. RoF sounds like a huge gamble, I don’t see it happening.

3. Maybe Adam would be best singing BoW again. Very popular and he could change it up a little bit.

See the guy at number 2? He wants to WORK with Kris. If those two do collaborate it will be an immediate hit. I have heard overwhelmingly from people that aren’t even fans of Idol that have said they would buy an album from Kris because it will be the chill kind of music that is hot right now. I think his music will be something you can work and study to. Which is the Jack Johnson, Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz, Eric Hutchinson category.

Now, I just have to point this out here. Kris isn’t worthy to be mentioned with great names like Kid Cudi, 3oh3, and Soulja Boy?

I think Kris really has a choice here. He can do his own thing on his first album and maybe get a couple of hits or he can push to collaborate with Jamie Foxx and co. on his first album and have a surefire hit on his hands and hopefully another hit or 2 on the album. I really hope he does the latter so he can first get some respect around hip hop and second not be forgotten immediately like Blake Lewis.

Most of Kris’s fans are fans of The Fray and Jason Mraz. But I think you might be giving Jason Mraz a little too much props here. I don’t think his voice is better than Kris’s. Jason hasn’t been forced to show his limit like Kris has so we haven’t had the microscope on Mraz’s voice like we have had on Kris. I have been to a Mraz concert as well and I love his style he just hasn’t shown any stretching of his voice like Kris has had to do.

You talk as if Kris’s fans are musically ignorant and it is terribly disrespectful.

If Adam doesn’t repeat Mad World Simon (Cowell, not Fuller) will shoot him a major bitchface. I kinda think this is a no brainer. Adam should go with Mad World and Kris should go with Falling Slowly. Both were stand out performances, yet both were performances that were said to have an inconsequential off note or two so there’s room for improvement.

Repeats? lame. they’re really clamping down on controlling the outcome here…just as I thought. Oh well, it’s all good.

I had a whole rant typed out but I will just agree with KenzTK cause he said it much more nicely.

I think it’s a pretty fair finale presentation. Except for the contestant’s favorite song choice, no one can blame them if their next song does not suit them since they didn’t choose it themselves. The coronation song will determine who has the better interpretation. I’m just glad Adam and Kris are BFFs. So it’s really a friendly competition. Whoever wins, they’ll end up sharing the crown with each other.

I think his music will be something you can work and study to. Which is the Jack Johnson, Colbie Caillat…category.

Kris will be great if he plays at all those intimate venues, where it’s an advantage to play unplugged. I can’t really see him doing large concerts that requires fireworks, dry ice and drama, his voice would be lost.
Not only that, I bet that he’ll somehow surprise us all. I wonder if he’ll be able to have a jam session with Scott, Matt, and Anoop. I think that’ll be really fun.

I never get over the “my favorite is better than your favorite and only one of them can be successful post Idol so here are a million meaningless reasons why it will be my favorite and not yours, so pfffft” arguments EVERY SINGLE YEAR. They are so endlessly amusing, and so amazingly similar.

They are both in different genres, and after next week neither will be competing with each other any more. Both have the opportunity at success if they make the right choices, and the opportunity to fall on their faces if they don’t. Both can fit easily into popular music right now since no one genre ever completely dominates the radio/ charts at any given time, and both of their genres are hot right now (assuming Adam goes Dance/ Rock).

Every Idol contestant ever can be compared to another artist. Even Adam. (Robert Plant. Freddie Mercury, etc) No Idol contestant is going to be better than the artists you can find to compare them to because they are Idol contestants just starting out their careers. This holds true for Adam too.

I can’t wait to see what kind of artists they both become when they be themselves and not have to do covers every week. Then we’ll have a much better idea of who they compare to, and what caliber of career we can look forward to.

Adam has many more voters but many of them are new to the AI world and they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know that they need to vote a lot.

What I love about this finale is that Adam and Kris are two genuinely nice guys who appear to like and respect each other. I think they know their styles are totally different, and I think they know that there’s room in the music industry for both of them now.

My votes will go the Glamtastic One this week, but I’ll be truly happy for Kris should he knock it out of the park and win. I think that of all the Idol contestants this year, Adam, Kris and Allison have the best shots at enormous success – and what’s really fun is that they LIKE each other. Makes my impish heart grow three sizes.

I really, really hope that Adam repeats Tracks of My Tears, and that they make the version with his arrangement of it available on itunes. My recording of the live performance just isn’t enough.

My guess is that Kris will pick Ain’t No Sunshine, but I’d love it if he repeated one of his great performances before people really took notice of him, like To Make You Feel My Love.

This is the first time in AI history that I’ve wanted to buy the albums of both of the final two. I’m not sure how I’m going to vote.

Adam should go with Mad World and Kris should go with Falling Slowly. Both were stand out performances, yet both were performances that were said to have an inconsequential off note or two so thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s room for improvement.

Most definitely plus the fact Mad World wasn’t seen by a good number of people considering the show ran over that night. It will be new to many.

Interesting perspective TKat. I don’t always or even often agree with you, but I always enjoy reading your posts and hearing your informed perspective. I am in that Starbucks generation and I adore Kris Allen. I am not that far out of the “alternative crowd” that you mention. I have listened to much Jason Mraz and the Fray and Snow Patrol and John Mayer and Maroon 5. The list of top 10 you give is a bunch of crap to me, but I love all of the artists listed above that fit a softer more melodic side of rock/pop. To me Kris, particularly in his studio versions, which are the only ones I would have heard from the above group, is every bit as good or better than any one of them. I think some folks may tend to compare live performances of a portion of a song with a full recording of someone else. I can see Kris very successful as much on the hot adult contemporary as on the pop list. He is cute. He is young. He is contemporary. He is talented. I can see young people liking his music. But for those of us 35 and above, I can also see us enjoying his smooth style and beautiful arrangements. You can only take so much ridiculous nonsense of a Lady Gaga. I hope her ship comes and goes very quickly. What a hot mess. I could see Kris Allen having staying power.

I like all kinds of music and I too play the piano and sing. I am amazed that Kris Allen can learn a song like Apologize in a day and a half after flying to and from Arkansas and sing while playing it in front of millions. His keyboards were spot on during Ain’t No Sunshine, too. He is a very talented guy.

I’m a big fan of Janis Joplin and thought Allison Iraheta did a great job on Cry, loved her Bonnie Raitt song, too. I still love Led Zepplin, U2, and Aerosmith and enjoyed Adam’s performances. But the music that I buy is music that I like to listen to over and over while I work, when I drive, while I clean my house or cook dinner. For that I prefer a Kris Allen and I will be buying his CD when it comes out.

Not just on AI-related sites but all around the web there are posts from people saying things like “I have never watched AI before / AI is not my sort of thing………………. but caught this guy performing a few weeks ago / saw a video on Youtube of this guy / was told about this guy by a friend …………………” and so on.

More often than not, they go on to say “I have voted for him 2/3/10/100 times each week since”. A drop in the ocean when fans of others are sitting there with with their fingers on the redial button for two hours or using software to do this for them.

I would agree but it’s all very dependent on whether the song that has been chosen for him by Simon Fuller is a ballad. I don’t think he should do two ballads.

It is rumoured that Adam has gone for Black or White, his performance in the first top 13 show.

Aside from the contrast if Simon Fuller has chosen a ballad for him, I can see the reasoning behind this. It got him great judges’ comments, it apparently (unconfirmed rumour) got the highest number of votes that week and it will not have been seen by many people as it was early in the series. Also, Mad World , as a result of being missed by so many people due to the overrun and having got a standing ovation from Simon, became the most searched for clip on Youtube and other video sites that day/week, beating a newly released clip from Britney Spears and Barack Obama’s farewell press conference and arrival from his Middle East trip (in fact, any combination of the words American, Idol, Adam, Lambert, Mad, World were the most searched for words on Google that week) ………………… something that seems to have been lost in the whole ridiculous Susan Boyle saga.

Mad World would have therefore been seen by many people anyway and it was a moment that would be hoping for lightning to strike twice to be able to repeat. Doing so could lead to “not as good as the first time” comments.

Wonder if Kris knew this before he had to choose the order. If he knew they had to do the same coronation song, wonder if he would still want to sing 2nd.

I have questioned the wisdom of Kris’ decision in following Adam even before realising they were both going to do the same song in the end.

If Adam opens the show as he did with Whole Lotta Love, I hope Kris takes several changes of underwear with him to the theatre.

Also SF personally manages some of the contestants (Carrie, Daughtry, and Cook, IIRC), so I think this will be interesting to see what he picks for these two guys. And then if he signs them to 19M afterward or lets them go find other management, like heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s done for a few of the contestants the past few seasons.

19E and RCA have first refusal on the top 13 contestants, win or lose. The ones they have let go elsewhere are the ones that they have not been interested in. I can’t see that being the case with either of these two, do you?

There is an obvious, if niche, market for Kris and Adam is an obvious cashcow.

No one in the current Top 10 US singles list was ever even in the AI competition and yet thay made this list, so I guess it’s premature to count anyone out of being a success! I know what what I would do if anyone said to me, “You’ll never make it”. I would prove them wrong! :annoyed_tb:

You can’t judge the list by a one week snapshot……you need to look at the Billboard Top 100 over the past year – and check out Jason Mraz, James Morrison, The Fray, this Nathanson dude, just to mention the names of those I would consider in the mode that Kris would likely follow, Starbucks demographic got money to spend on music. I also think that this group appeals to younger music fans than we realize but that is just a guess on my part.

The Top 30 list at my fav station has Mraz and Morrison and Nathanson and the Fray all over it along with Black Eyed Peas and Flo Rida.

I also think that if Kris had the right band behind him, and the right songs, he could expand his musical range and appeal beyond even that Starbuck demographic.

Since Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s background is in the musical theater/broadway, wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Simon Fuller pick a song from the Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables.

Adam did stick a couple of bars from The Phantom of the Opera” in the middle of Ring of Fire.

I don’t care how much pimping they do of Kris this week the judges have never really liked him.

If (and probably) when Kris wins it will be very embarassing.

I have no doubt that Adam will have the bigger career.

There are just too many guys with guitars out there right now, Kris can’t compete with any of them right now and I don’t think all of his voters will follow him as passionately.

Adam has said in interviews that he wants to go into the Pop music industry. and the album he wants to make post idol will contain pop rock/dance/eclectric, all sorts of different elements.

so it never was his intention to become only a hard ROCK star. which means he might be acting, but change nothing about his talent.

Adam has to do a upbeat song like A Whole Lotta Love,Black Or White,ROF,Feeling Good because i think Kris and Adam will get stuck with ballads from Fuller.Kris has to do Remember the time,She Works Hard For The money,Man In The Mirror either one of those.

I agree with Lavender1960 about Whole Lotta Love. Good stuff, but something was missing for me. My husband put on Classic Vinyl on the radio (XM-Sirius) while we were out last night. I felt like a kid listening to my old favorites: Tull’s Aqualung, Deep Purple’s Highway Star, The Who’s Love Reign O’er Me. I was singing along to them while my 12 year old daughter bopped along in the back seat (15 year old son was listening to Three Doors Down on his i-pod), the whole time telling me I’m weird. I know this music, I grew up with this music and I just feel like there’s an emotional disconnect for me when Adam sings the classics. Again, JMO. I won’t argue about his vocal skills — they’re there. (Sam Harris has a nicer tone, smoother transitions to me. JMHO Adam reminds me so much of Sam Harris and as I’ve said before, I bought SAM HARRIS and SAM-I-AM long ago.) I recognize and appreciate talent. Like Lavender1960, I feel, as I told my husband weeks ago, for me it’s like the part of American Idol Contestant #1 is being played by Adam Lambert. Maybe when his album comes out, I’ll see where he’s going music-wise. This is how I feel, it is not meant to belittle how anyone on this board feels. Again, JMHO.

I hated American Idol at the beginning of this year and I complained about it unceasingly to my daughter, who actually got angry with me. It wasn’t pleasant viewing any more for me. But, then something happened, I took notice of a young man that sang with such joy (noticed it first with Man-in-the-mirror, but not enough to care as they were pimping Gokey so much, along with a few others, it was distracting) and with such originality — he just had this very cool vibe to me. I think Kris can chart on all formats, even country. Keith Urban is the only country artist I’ve purchased and I was like, oh yeah, TPTB see it too, having arranged a duet with Kris and Keith.

I think we’ve been manipulated this whole time. TPTB are not stupid. They allowed Danny Gokey to dig his own grave, every time he opened his mouth. (The clapping for himself made me LOL.) I think the poor guy was a shill, a dupe and we fell for it. They got their Light vs Dark finale anyway, but with much more likeable, marketable guys. I like both Adam and Kris. I’m Catholic, a Christian, and I have my own mind, make my own tough decisions, knowing what feels right for me. Adam’s sexuality is not an issue. I feel Kris, a Christian, is like the majority of American Christains, accepting, non-judgemental, trying day-to-day to love your neighbor as yourself. Yeah, sometimes easier said than done. I don’t think it’s in the majority of Americans’ make-up to be outright cruel. We are a decent nation — this I will always believe. JMHO

That said, who ever wins will be based on what America responds to musically and emotionally. Kris Allen is the one for me. He makes me happy and I need happy right now what with my husband’s recent state of unemployment.

I am a representative of the “Starbucks demographic,” meaning I fit your descriptors perfectly. Kris certainly does appeal to this crowd. I have already downloaded some of his music and expect that I will purchase more when he releases a single or cd. I personally know many like myself in this regard. I also love The Fray and Jason Mraz and have forked over my hard-earned dollars for their music as well. Kris has elements of both of them, as well as some Kanye, Mayer, and others from varied genres, which is what will make him wildly successful. His talent, and therefore his appeal, are quite broad.

I, too, grew up on the tunes you listed, and the way Adam sings is not music to my ears. Also, I feel that even his surprise/relieved look when announced that he had made it to the Final 2, putting his head in his hands exactly as Kris had the previous week, was staged and practiced. I didn’t realize it until I saw some still shots a couple of days ago, but it kind of turned my stomach. He has an amazing voice, but I don’t care for the way he uses it, and I’m not sure he has really figured out who he is, musically speaking.
