One Direction Win Legal Battle to Keep Their Name

Oh look. Simon Cowell’s superstar boyband, One Direction, will get to keep their name after all. As if we ever doubted the outcome of that lawsuit.

Chart stars One Direction are to keep their name after reaching a deal with a US act with whom they had been locked in a legal dispute.

The What Makes You Beautiful stars – who appeared at the Olympics closing ceremony last month – had faced action from the Californian rock band who had already been using the same name.

The US group was claiming more than £600,000 in damages, a share of profits and hoped to get the British quintet to stop using the name.

But now both sides said they have reached an agreement and the trademark dispute has been “resolved amicably”.

    Uncharted Shores sounds like the sequel to Giligan’s Island.

    The settlement was probably something along the lines of we’ll buy you guys lunch and promise not to have the millions of tween 1D fans mob you. Deal? ;P

    This was always a settlement/publicity grab. The first time I would say 99% of the public had ever heard of the first One Direction was when they brought this lawsuit.

    A battle to keep one of the most ugly names that a band ever had. Sounds cool.
